This would be huge if this happened. I would give Dallas a boost after DDeAndre Left them. Thoughts on this!

mgreener_34ParticipantAs a Celtics fan who’s team owns both these teams picks this coming year, I have no idea what to make of this. IF Deron goes to DAL, the Nets are worse, but the Mavs are better. Here’s to both of them missing the playoffs I guess!
But on a serious note, this move makes no sense for either team, as Deron is way past his prime, and isn’t going to move the needle much, if at all. He shot an abysmal 39% from the floor last year, and was a negative defender, which in the West, if you don’t have someone to contain Parker/Paul/Lillard/Westbrook/Conley/Curry/Bledsoe you’re probably going to get toasted. Another stat which is alarming is his shooting % from 0-3 feet. For his career he was pretty good at 48%, last year? .395%…That’s terrible, and shows that Deron doesn’t, and can’t attack the basket as effectively as he used to. This was his biggest stregth as a PG, the fact that he was able to use his body and get to the bucket. without that I don’t know how much worth he will give a team if he’s just a jump shooting PG who shoots a career 36% from downtown. Dallas would be much better off with Harris at the point I would think.
From the Nets perspective, this has got to be a slap in the face. They traded so much to bring him in, and Derrick Favors is blossoming into one of the better PF in the league while Deron has crumbled into a shell of his former self. To buy him out without getting anything in return is also heart breaking as you got absolutely no return on your $100 million dollar investment. As I mentioned above, the Nets don’t own thier pick this year either, so trading the only starting level PG on the roster is also questionable. Running out a lineup of:
Lopez
Young-T-Rob
RHJ
Johnson-Bogs
Jack-Larkin/Blake
isn’t even going to cut it in the east. This team went 38-44 last year, and the only improvements they will have will be having another defender on the wing, and a full year of Thad. They are replacing 4 of their rotation players from last year if this happens, and are replacing them with Larkin/RHJ/Robinson…
The Nets were 22nd in rebounding, 26th in 3pnt%, and were one of the worst teams protecting the rim last year. None of their moves solved those issues, and only perpetuated their already weak weaknesses. I wouldn’t be surprised if they missed the playoffs, with or without Deron

Bed HeadParticipantHowever, this really would be huge, actually.
For the Nets. Not the Mavs.
Dallas is done (with or without Williams). IMO, the phone number Cuban really needs to find is Sam Hinkie’s.

khaled_a_dParticipantI would love having Dwill here to work with Rick Carlisle .he will be a perfect coach to use him IMO .and Dwill is better than anything available at PG

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantNets are at the point where they are basically just begging anyone to take d-will off their hands. Since there is no way they could trade him, a buyout is about the best case scenario they could hope for.
I’m not sure how this helps the mavs. They need a pg but is d-will really much of an upgrade over Devin Harris at this point? Maybe this would make them just good enough that they could win 37-42 games next season and lose their draft pick.

capecodderParticipantThis would be good for the Celtics…..since the #1 from Dallas is top 7 protected, it would increase the chance of Dallas improving to late lottery (saving the pick for the Celtics)…..also makes the Nets weaker especially in depth….improving the pickings for the Celtics

BiggysmallsParticipantI feel like this is really stupid if you are Brooklyn. They lose their draft pick, so whats the point of being bad?
With Williams, you are at least still competitive and probably a borderline playoff team.
