Denver trades the #6 pick to Celtics for James Young, 16th (Montrezl Harrell), and 28th pick (Chris McCullough).

Celtics are trying to move up to get Willie Caulie-Stein.

Is that fair value for the #6 or I’m I way off? Just used what this site had going at the 16th and 28th

IMO Young’s value doesn’t match up to that of the pick used to select him last year.  Even if it did, I think it would only give you enough ammunition to get up to 8 or 9 at best.

Im a celtics fan and I would probably do this deal if certain players were still on the board such as WCS and Herozja. I expect Okafor, Towns, Russell, Porzingos and Mudiay to be gone by that point.

I think Young has a lot of potential but I’m not sure if he will reach it. Smart, Bradley, and Thomas all demand backcourt time. im just not sure when Young will start to see minutes.

Denver is picking 7th and I don’t think they would be into this. In my opinion Young and the 28th pick are not worth the difference between Harrell and guys like Winslow or Hezonja.

I think this trade is a lose lose for both teams, and think that neither is getting the proper return. Right now Youngs potential far outweighs his value, so just throwing him in a deal is obsurd, and the people who think a future first is need as well need to calm down a little. Danny Ainge and Brad Stevens have both been on record saying that they believe James would be a top ten pick if he was in this draft, and with guys like Booker and Oubre getting top ten consideration, you can’t really deny that. The Celtics are extremely high on Young, and there was a great article the other day on ESPN (is there actually such a thing?), and here are just a few snippets:

"If the Celtics maintained a leaderboard for offseason hours in the gym, Young would be near the top. A familiar presence since the end of the season, he often engages in two-a-day sessions at the team’s training facility. The results? He’s carrying 15 pounds of additional muscle, has trimmed his body fat and has added three inches to his vertical over the past year, the fruits of a newfound dedication to the weight room"

"This is my eighth year in the D-League and I’ve seen a lot of assignment players come through. He’s got to be the best one I’ve seen"

"James has some stuff that you can’t teach. And I think James’ upside is huge. Like, I’m excited about it. I’m really excited about it."

Obviously the Celtics organization are really high on Young, and the fact that he would still be the 16th YOUNGEST PLAYER in this years draft is really something worth considering. He has a lot of potential, and I don’t think he’s just a piece you throw in to move up to #7. Cashing in 3 assets for 1 is something the Celtics would like to do, but I don’t think they are getting the return on their investment here.

Like I said, this is a bad trade, not because of its idea, but because the players values aren’t relative to their potential. I think both teams are going to be moving a lot of pieces around come Thursday, but I don’t think any trade they make is going to be this clear cut. To be honest I could see something like:

Nuggets trade: Wilson Chandler, #7, Randy Foye

Celtics trade: Avery Bradley, #16, #33, Tyler Zeller

Celtics are in need of shooting and rim protection, and nuggets are in need of players to guard the wing position and big men who can play an uptempo style of play. I think this trade is more to what they would be looking for, as Celtics get their shooting and SF they need while also get to pick either WCS or Turner, and the Nuggets get a great defensive SG who is locked up cheap for the next 3 years. Zeller would also give them a mobile big man to come off the bench, and they can take their pick with #16 and #33 (which has more value than the #28 in my opinion)

That’s just a dumb trade I did off the top of my head, but is more to the design I think we’ll see come draft day.

There must be quite a few Celtic fans on this forum.  It’s the only way to justify why these awful trades are being "thumbed up".

I hope the Celtics take someone else. Its a risk that you cant take in the lottery.
