hey mama there goes that manParticipantwhy is demetri mcamey the 22nd pick in the 2011 draft i know its early but is he that good?

JNixonParticipantYeah he’s that good. He’s underrated by alot of people because he’s not all that athletic or quick, but he’s had no problem playing very well or overcoming those issues. I think he’ll be an All-American next year, and I’d definitely say him at 22 is good. He’ll be a very good NBA player no doubt in my mind.

BasterdInABasketParticipantI have a tough time seeing McCamey as a really good NBA player. He’ll have to work on his PG skills to make it because I dont see him as a 2 guard. I dont think he has the speed or quickness to be an NBA point or the explosiveness or size to be a 2 guard. Hes a little too streaky of a scorer and shooter for a team to depend on him to be a starter. From what I’ve seen of him so far I could see him as a combo guard off the bench to provide some scoring. I’d compare him to randy foye but with slightly better PG skills

kobyzParticipanthe is a copy player of Anthony Johnson!

JNixonParticipantNeither one has a neck, that’s for sure

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI’m confused. So you averaged 8 assists and college without PG skills?
I would draft him with the 1st pick then…who knows how many assists he could have if he developed PG Skills!

JNixonParticipantMcCamey is a pure PG to me. Last year showed it. The only reason he didn’t play PG for his 1st 2 years was because Chester Frazier was on the team and was a steady playmaker. McCamey is best as a PG, if the 7 apg he got last year wasn’t enough to prove it.

BasterdInABasketParticipantIm not gonna get too excited about his 7 apg and say hes gonna be a great PG in the NBA. Jared Jordan averaged almost 9 apg in his last 2 years in college and hasnt turned into anything. Same goes for Greivis Vazquez last year at Maryland. APG in college doesnt necesarrily translate into APG in the NBA. He just doesnt have the speed or explosiveness.

TylerTallenParticipantHe’s definitely a legitimate league PG. Coming out of HS he was in the same conversation as Derrick Rose and Evan Turner as the premier player in Illinois. You’re not in that company without some skill.
Also, if you’re one to put weight in these sort of things, he WAS invited to Lebron James’ skill camp…you know, that camp for the “premier” HS and college players in the country….

BasterdInABasketParticipantIdk what it matters that he was invited to the Lebron James Skills camp. I know Talor Battle attended that as well and hes gonna go undrafted. Idk what him being a top prospect out of high school matters either.

TylerTallenParticipantI’m going to give you a break for not picking up on the thinly-veiled sarcasm about the Lebron James camp, because in the end, I agree with you that it doesn’t matter much.
I do still stand behind my overriding point, though. Only a few years removed from being in the same class as two of the best college players in the last three years is not something to turn your nose up at. McCamey is the real deal and while him being a great prospect out of HS isn’t the best indicator, he’s only gotten better, and he will continue to do so. I expect him to have a big year.

JNixonParticipantYeah that stuff doesn’t matter, not sure why that was really brought up, but he’ll be an NBA player. And a good one. He’ll be better than Anthony Johnson too. Don’t sleep on him. His game translates to me. It’s not like he’s doing anything right now that he won’t be able to do in the NBA.

TRC1991Participantall i remember was how incredibly clutch mccamey was in this game:

canesboy6ParticipantI get what your saying….He was in the same Class as D Rose and Evan Turner, so he has to be good. That makes a boatload of sense.
He doesnt look like an impact player to me at the NBA level. With his size, and lack of footspeed, I would liken him to Marcus Williams. He will probably get a contract and maybe stick but I dont see a starter.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/03/2010 - 3:21pm #367392
JNixonParticipantHe was CRAZY good in that Michigan State game…that was a College Gameday game too on national Primetime TV. Yeah he showed out.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/03/2010 - 3:22pm #367393
gregoden08ParticipantI agree completely. I was thinking of Marcus Williams as well for a comparison. He also has a pretty wild shot selection and he is a terrible shooter when he’s not left open.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/03/2010 - 3:23pm #367396
JNixonParticipantDamn….Lets hope he’s not Marcus Williams. I can see that comparison alot too. Yuck.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/03/2010 - 3:33pm #367400
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantDamn, I can’t joke anymore…..
McCamery is someone I wanted to enter the draft last year. He has the size and I believe he’s similar to someone like Deron Williams. He’s big and could back down guards.
I would expect him to be a mid to late 1st. I would love NY to get him since I wanted him last year.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/03/2010 - 3:37pm #367402
JNixonParticipantI see Andre Miller when I watch McCamey play honestly. He’s got some similarities to Deron Williams, but he’s not quite as dynamic. I think he’ll be a solid starter and very good player.
Marcus Williams, while there are similarities, is a worse-case scenario. Especially since McCamey is a more aggressive and better scorer.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/03/2010 - 3:38pm #367403
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI think you have something there with that Miller Comparison.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/03/2010 - 3:55pm #367405
delfamParticipantI still see McCamey having a Derek Fisher type role in the NBA. Someone who doesn’t do to much with the ball but does just enough, and knows when to speed it up and slow it down. I think he also will be a clutch shooter like D-Fish.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/03/2010 - 5:03pm #367431
canesboy6ParticipantDead on, really good comparison. I think thats a best case scenario type thing, I feel like Miller in his prime was a better athlete, and he is a surprisingly strong guy.
I guess I’ve been hating in this thread but I watched McCamey play a few times and wasn’t impressed. He seemed good not great to me, and I see his footspeed bieng a big disadvantage for him.

Demarcus OnealParticipantMcCamey was more recruited out of highschool then Turner was They both played at St. Joes and McCamey was the better player and the more heavily recruited one and he is very good and a good point guard i just wonder if his lack of elite athleticism will hurt his NBA stock but he will be aq solid back up point guard in the league someday at worst
