It looks like DeJuan Blair won’t be heading to the nation’s capital after all.

    Details Here: http://wizofawes.com/2013/07/30/blair-heading-to-dallas/

Well this looks like the Mavs lineup for this year, anyone feel free to correct me if I’m blatantly wrong about something

    PG Jose Calderon/Shane Larkin/Gal Mekel
    SG Monta Ellis/Vince Carter/Wayne Ellington
    SF Shawn Marion/Jae Crowder
    PF Dirk Nowitzki/Brandan Wright
    C Samuel Dalembert/Dejuan Blair/Bernard James

That is a weird assortment of players and I’m not sure how well they complement each other. I don’t think they make the playoffs in the west…

Dallas has revamped their roster 3 times in 3 seasons. I’m not sure how well they’ll fit together, but the addition of Calderon was very underrated.

I’ll still give them the edge over the Lakers.

Houston, Oklahoma City, Denver, Golden State, Memphis, LAC, San Antonio, and possibly even New Orleans will compete for spots in the West.

With that said, Dallas has a shot to sneak into the playoffs. 7th/8th seed looks like a possibility.

IF Dirk Nowitzki is healthy, I think Dallas gets in as a 7th/8th seed.

Rick Carlisle is still one of the better coaches in the NBA. Last season, despite Dirk missing 29 games and needing time to get into form, he had Dallas competing for a playoff spot. I think he’ll make this roster work.

God are they hurting at the 5. Which is unfortunate since Dirk, like all shooting PFs, benefit greatly from good center play.

I still think Blair has something to add to a good team. I don’t like when he plays center too much, but that’s beside the point. Look at his per 36 averages from last year, 13.9 PPG and 9.8 RPG (career 14.9 PPG and 11 RPG per 36) on a team that he is not asked to score down low much with Splitter and Duncan in the mix. He could be the only true low post threat on offense, not that he’s the best down there. They have a shot at making the playoffs with their brand new back court, but it depends on how much players like Dirk, Vince, Marion, and Dalembert have left in the tank.

I am interested to see how Dallas’ second unit looks. Rick Carlisle plays the matchups really well, and they’ll be able to give a number of different looks. Blair can bully a weaker opponents, and might be a good partner with Dallas. They are a good passing team that usually affords its 5 the ability to be a fifth option. Brandan Wright has showed that he can be effective against lighter frontcourts. Bernard James is a tough player whose added weight should help him take the tough minutes against the bigger frontcourts that Brandan Wright is not suited for. Jae Crowder was over his head when asked to start, but was a nice player when coming off the bench whose versatility allowed him to go from the 2-4. The second unit will seemingly be very guard-oriented offensively (and while we don’t know how the Calderon/Ellis/Harris/Mekel/Larkin/Ellington/Ledo totem pole plays out, they certainly do not appear lacking for options), but all the options will give Carlisle a lot of freedom to give different looks. Even in 4th quarters, they’ll be able to be really creative with who they put out there. If Dirk stays healthy, they have the look of a really competitive team, but there is no margin for error if he misses time again.

Dallas is a better fit for Blair…i dont think he wouldve gotten much playing time behind Nene, Okafor, Serephin, and Booker…

And i wouldnt worry too much about Dallas, they almost made the playoffs last year with a worse team.
