He is testing the waters and will likely keep his name in the draft. Josh Pastner said he will test the waters and if it seems like he will be undrafted he will return to Memphis. There is no way Lawson goes undrafted he was a top 5 freshman in the country.

I see good value in him at 20-30 in the upcoming draft and he could go even higher. He is a long forward that can gaurds either forward position. He is very coordinated for his size and can handle the rock. He has shooting range out to college 3-pt and is very crafty getting his shot off in the paint.

    What do you guys think?

There are usually around 75 guys (give or take of course) who has someone telling them they will go between 20 and 30 in the draft.

Don’t see him in the lotto and that is the money round.

Late first has a way of turning into mid-second (at best).

For Dedric Lawson: good, solid, all-around skill set.  Can score a bit from everywhere.  Can handle the ball fairly well, and rebound at a high rate (for a 3/4 tweener).  Haven’t noticed his passing but didn’t watch a ton of Tigers this year.  So, yeah, I think he is a tweener.  Not extremely athletic or even an above average athlete for a late first round draft pick type.  Doesn’t look very explosive either.

Sort of like a broke man’s less athletic Ben Simmons — but, more range though.

I am seeing names like Tyler Ulis, Grayson Allen, Brice Johnson, and Diamond Stone in that draft range — or lower — and Dedric Lawson doesn’t even have that kind of brand yet.

I think he can get there, but, who knows?

Sometimes guys peak early.  Supposedly next year’s draft is supposed to be pretty good.

And, U of Memphis might be WORSE next year.  Some seniors will be leaving and our only true 3 point threat will be doing the whole graduate transfer thing (possibly to Gonzaga).

If your team has a mid to late 2nd round pick and Dedric Lawson is on the board, sure, why not take a chance?

6’8 versatile/mutli-dimensional forwards, even if they ARE tweeners don’t grow on trees, and this is the kind of new-look NBA that should be a pretty good fit for his game.

If your team needs a young, cheap, fifth forward go for it!

I’m very surprised that I haven’t seen his name on any draft boards or mock drafts. He reminds me of a Tobias Harris like player as guy who can guard both forward positions, although neither of them well, and he can go get buckets. He should probably stay in college if he wants a better shot at the first round but if he WOWS in workout, he has a shot at the 1st round. All it takes is for one team to fall in love with him and I could see that happening.

P.S. Memphis needs to fire Josh Pastner or at least threaten to do so. He has way too much talent come to that school for them to be so mediocre every year. The transfer of Austin Nichols hurt but that not a good enough excuse for his mediocrity every year.
