    hey guys

i have a question about david lee and the knicks…
the knicks have his bird rights right?

so could they just go and spend cap room on free agents (who ever) and then resign lee because of the bird rights?

is this possible? and if not please explain a fool why not 😉

If they sign someone they lose his bird right.

So they have to sign him right away.

    No they don’t.

They have to keep his rights. If they keep his rights , I believe they could only sign one max free agent. If they reanounce his rights, They could sign 2 max free agents.

Yeah, they have to sign him FIRST or they are giving up his rights

and David Lee will probably already have a new team by the time the Knicks can even extend a contract to one of there ‘max’ guys

Well, basically its the same thing..

By not signing him first, they are already giving up his rights, which makes room for 2 maxes, and if they do sign him first, they only have room for only one

But wait, I don’t get it then

How did the Lakers sign Ron Artest and then was able to give Odom a 3 year, 30 mil deal AFTER? Wouldn’t his bird rights be relinquished?

Yea but Portland was under the cap.

So NY could just add someone with the MLE, add D-Lee and trade him for Bosh then Sign LBJ? Correct?

You can always just go over the cap and work around the Luxary cap like the Lakers do every year and the Mavs

The Knicks don’t have an MLE this year, you have to be over the cap to have an MLE

True but they could always go over the cap then use the MLE.

    Knicksboy…..lol

You were making some very good posts earlier…come back to earth man the Knicks arent going to get Wade Lebron and Bosh if thats what youre insinuating.

I hate watching you Knicks fans drool over the dream of having The best PF the best SF and the second best SG in the league on one team.

It really messes you guys up more than it messes up Miami fans, who actaully have a shot at it…

You can’t do it that way. You have to be over the cap prior to free-agency in order to use the MLE. That’s why the Lakers were able to use the MLE on Artest. They used the MLE on Artest and then signed Lamar Odom via Bird Rights.

the thing is in order for New York to sign two max players they have to renounce Lee’s rights. Lakers still had Odom’s bird’s rights but was not going to pay him the max money they could or anything close.

    thanks guys for explanation…
what i thougt was that they could keep the bird rights without affecting their cap space and re-sign him later and go over the cap that way!
would have been nice to have around no matter who the other guys are…

They better resign him if they want a chance at signing Lebron. He’s their best player.

I never said they get all 3.

I think at best, they get 2.
