I mean…hes a really good player, but it’d be laughable to know that hes making the same amount of money as Lebron, Wade, Bosh, and others…

I do not think Joe Johnson is worth a max contract. I think he is worth a 5 year deal for $75 million. Since he would be entering his 10th season as the 2010-11 season I think his max deal would put him in the 10+season bracket meaning we would give him $20mil and up as each year goes on per year. With that being say again Joe Johnson is not worth a max contract rather 5 years for $75, maybe $80 million.

I don’t think Chicago goes after Joe Johnson, I think they’re Dwyane Wade or bust in the SG department. I think Johnson either goes to NY or stays.

It’s not so much that I don’t think JJ would not be a good fit for the Bulls, but I think if the Bulls fail with Wade then JJ will be signed else where.

Back to the original question. It has to be the end of Lee in NY. I think he loves the place, but he didn’t want to sign once NY wouldn’t give him a fair deal this past offeseason. It was just one of those things where he was a restricted free agent and didn’t have a choice. I don’t think anyone will be getting signed until all the big names are off the board. Whoever shows him the love and a decent paycheck will probably be who signs Lee.

As for Johnson, he’s not a max player. Neither is Rudy Gay, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a max deal or close because a few of these teams are going to come out empty handed. That should only be reserved for the very best guys. At best Johnson should be the 2nd best player on your team because he’s one of those guys that does a lot of things very well, but he’s not going to completely take a game over or carry you to a championship. He fits in very well with what Chicago has, but I’m not sure he should even be an option. They are probably better off getting a solid starting 2 and 4 at a reasonable price if they can’t land an elite player.

I think Lee would be used as a S&T core piece to whoever the big name the Knicks would be able to sign. Although the Knicks got signicantly under the cap, they needed to renounced the rights to David Lee and all the other players. They also need to buy out Eddy Curry in order to have enough cap for 2 maximum contracts. So it is likely that they would use Lee in a S&T as the team who would lose the big name player would definitely want some compensation.

Raptors is one of my favorite team, but I can already see a S&T swapping Lee and Bosh. If the Raptors can’t get to 2nd round (which is likely given the top 4 teams are better), I can see Bosh leaving for New York. The best Toronto can get would be Lee or Gallli.

Signing a major free agent, and I’m not talking about Joe Johnson, is inherent with flaws. Although I don’t think he’s coming to NY, let’s use Dwayne Wade as an example. If I’m Dwayne Wade, one of the few reasons I would be attracted to the Knicks is the fact that they have a high caliber player like David Lee. Finding a guy who’s a veritable walking “double double” is rare in the NBA, so he’s extremely valuable.

However, if Dwayne Wade, or some other major FA, commands so much money that the Knicks can’t afford to resign David Lee, then why would Dwayne Wade or any other major FA want to join the Knicks?

Nonetheless, you made a very good point, but that raises a different question. Please tell me which team can afford to simultaneously pay two monster contracts, such as the kind of money that a combination of Dwayne Wade and LeBron will command?

And if they can afford to pay out two monster contracts that takes up the bulk of the team’s payroll, how much money will be left to pay the remainder of the roster?
