Robb_CParticipantJust got word Darryl Dawkins passed away today, he was such a great personality after he retired and was a great ambassador for the game.. He was as unique of a person as he was a basketball player.. He’s the reason why we have breakway rims today in basketball.. I always thought of him as one of the guys who kept that ABA spirit alive to this day..

RUDEBOY_Participant1 of the true larger than life personalities of the game..i was lucky enuff to have seen him play in the early 80s ..and also lucky to have met him in person…a talented player, but never reached his potential….
even he admitted that he wasnt as good as he should’ve been..but said playing the game of basketball brought him so much joy and the opportunity to take care of his family far exceed any award.
he hated stephen a. smith with a passion..dawkins tried out for the espn show ”dream job” a few years ago…dream job was a show that gave the winner a chance to become a sportscenter anchor….dawkins said he felt disrespected by the way smith critiqued his performance on the show……dawkins said smith’s comments were way out of line….

Robb_CParticipantThat’s cool you had the opportunity to meet him, he’s one of the guys that I knew had stories for days about the game and lifestyle.. Everyone says he didn’t live up to his potential but he certainly left his own impact on the game.. He also was known to party, him and Rick James use to party together.. It wouldn’t surprise me if all the drugs caught up to him later in life cause dying at 58 is obviously premature.. Either way he will be missed!

Rip255Haha, Chocolate Thunder probably doesn’t like criticising others, so I can understand why he didn’t like Stephen A’s comments. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body.
I bet Chocolate Thunder held awesome parties. Probably played some George Clinton and danced all night with the ladies.
And to be honest, if I could break backboards without having to pay for the replacement, I’d do it every game! I doubt a single one of those fans wen’t home upset that the game didn’t finish.
I’m gonna eat this Snickers bar in memory of Choc. T.

canadabasketballisrisingParticipantHe seemed like a great guy. I won $20 from him once for hitting a shot when I was 9. That was the highlight of my summer as a kid. RIP Chocolate Thunder.
