valentinedo you like him?
.
(the real question/ purpose for this thread): is he going to ‘be in’ the 2013 or 2014 draft? or its all speculating right now?
nbadraft got him for 2014, other sites got him for the 2013 draft!

FUNKYBUNCHParticipantHe can really handle the rock and dish dimes for a guy his size. But he’s not agile enough to defend the 3 spot, so strength conditioning is the question in defending the 4 spot. If he can add some toughness guarding the post- he could be a good player.

rileymcshea3ParticipantYeah I think he should add strength and be a Lamar odom type player

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantSaric can basically do anything he wants on the court now all he needs to do is develop a postition and a more refined jumper, which is why I believe he will enter next years draft

pohani komaracParticipantI doubt he will enter draft next season. He is not rushing thigs. To me 2014 or 15. draft is more realistic for him and other Croatian kid Hezonja
As about positions now he is proving him self on senior level playing only as PF. Last 2 games he was MVP for Croatian senior NT. Ukraine and Hungary are not top level, but for 18 year old kid it’s very good cometition
I think we finaly have prospects that are not product of big hype and that after yers of strugling we will get back among best teams 🙂

SiggyParticipantI think he’s good enough to be drafted in the lotto next year even if he doesn’t come over for a couple of years. I don’t want to speculate on his contract’s specifics. Does anyone know if his contract is buyout "friendly" in 2 years time? If not, I might change my tune about taking him in the lotto.
I have a few position concerns about Saric at the NBA level, but I like the way he plays the game. He’s very smart and creative. I’d like to see him extend his range a bit more.

pohani komaracParticipantHe signed good contract with Bilbao for NBA after 3 years. Don’t know wich is his buyout bu acording to his father one of reasons he chose Bilbao is that they didn’t ask for some crazy buyout and because they will let him stay in Croatia for one more year to finish his school

iguapops420ParticipantKinda reminds me of Nemanja Bjelica the way he handles the ball. But his passing and vision is greater IMO. I see no issue for him being a 3 in the L. Just because he’s not agile enough to be a good man defender, but I see no issue with him becoming a good, or at LEAST adequate team defender. It’s not as if Mike Miller or Hedo Turkoglu are top defenders or have very good lateral quicks. Give Dario and knockdown jumpshot, and I could see him becoming a Gallinari type defensive player who uses his size and smarts moreso than his quicks to play smart d.

It seems as if the Saric contract holdup will be coming to an end soon. Just to recap, he signed with Bilbao Basket for five years over the summer and was to be loaned out to KK Split for this season so that he could both transition to playing a higher level of basketball as well as finish high school in Croatia. His old club KK Zagreb is holding up the deal by claiming that they are entitled to 1 million euros as opposed to Bilbao and the Saric’s thinking it was 250,000 euros. Dario and his father, a former pro, had a falling out with Zagreb’s front office over his development which led to the change. Saric’s father didn’t think Dario was developing properly and was hurt by having a number of coaching changes. All the sides have submitted their paperwork to FIBA and they will rule.
One of the interesting parts of the deal is if FIBA rules in Zagreb’s favor, because it is being rumored Bilbao won’t, or will not be able to, pay much more than they previously agreed. This would mean that Saric would be back on the market, and clubs like Maccabi Tel Aviv and the "wealthier Russian and Greek clubs" (i.e. CSKA, Khimky, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos) jump in to pay the buyout and sign him. The reason it would be interesting is that clubs like CSKA won’t necessarily leap for an NBA buyout if they think Saric can help them.
The other part of this episode I find interesting is that Predrag Saric seems to have a good understanding that his son needs proper development and said that he doesn’t want to see his kid get lost by taking the quick buck and leaping levels too soon. He made a point of saying that Dario isn’t ready for the Euroleague right now, and that Drazen Petrovic and Rubio were the only ones who were at that age. It was his hope that Saric plays this year in the Adriatic League this year, then a year with Bilbao, and if he progesses ultimately to the NBA. It is always a good sign when the people around a player aren’t necessarily chasing the first check as much as making sure the player develops properly with the understanding that there are far more checks coming down the road if that happens.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantI missed this story during the start of the NBA. http://www.mundodeportivo.com/20121030/baloncesto/acb/dario-saric-bilbao-zagreb-fiba-compensacion_54353668960.html FIBA settled the amount at € 550,000. Saric will need to find a new club, and at that price the list of possibilities is short (Mundo mentions Real Madrid, Barca, CSKA).

SiggyParticipantSo do you think he’ll go the Mirotic route, like… declaring early and coming over after he’s not bound by the NBA rookie contract? Or do you see him not declaring this yr?

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantJust going off the statements of his father, it appears as though the plan for Dario was not for him to declare this year. If the original plan was for him to play in the Adriatic League this year, Spain the following, and re-assess the NBA Draft based off where he is at in his development after the next two years, then I do not see how the timetable accelerates simply because of these contractual problems. It is entirely possible that I am wrong, but that would seem to make sense. Today is the deadline for Bilbao to decide whether they want to pay the transfer fee. Assuming that they decline to do so, Saric will be back on the market later this week. The most recent rumors are that Maccabi Tel Aviv, Anadolu Efes, and KK Cedevita (all Euroleague teams, though KK Cedevita is 0-4 and could be out in a month) have shown the most interest. Supposedly, all of them would want Saric to join them right away.

SiggyParticipantHim declaring this year depends on their timetable. If they expect him to be ready within 3 yrs, then he can afford to wait to declare. But then there would be issues with a buyout, depending on which team he plays for, which could delay his NBA career a year or two, and he’d still be on an NBA rookie contract when he gets here. He and his father don’t seem to be in a rush at all to come to the NBA and that’s perfectly fine. If their timetable is 4+ years (Dario’s only 18) I think it would be best to follow Mirotic’s lead, so that if/when Dario is ready to come to the NBA in 4 yrs, he won’t be paid like a rookie. As a Bulls fan I’d love to see Mirotic playing for them as soon as next year, but I also recognize that if he waits and develops a couple more years, he’d be playing his cards perfectly.

pohani komaracParticipantManny big euro teams are redy to pay buyout, but it looks it won’t happen. Problem is NBA of corse
My personal info says he alredy has promise from Spurs they will take him in draft, but rich Euro teams are not intrested in paying buyout for him and then let him in NBA.
Also in story got club from his home town Sibenik, Jolly JBS as their owner is redy to pay buyout, loan him to Split for Adriatic league, whille he would be playing for them in Croatian A1 league and could go to NBA or Europe with same buyout they will pay to KK Zagreb
