Besides his defense, this guy is just bad really, I don’t know why Pop sticks for him..He has been bad for a long stretch now.. He is shooting 36% from the field and 33% from three. Last year his FG % was at 34,4 and 30% from 3.. If you’re gonna play the guy 25 minutes a game you should probably look for a better option somewhere around the league..

Uhhh Green shot 44 percent from the field and 42 percent from 3 a year ago. So my guess is that Pop is waiting for him to shoot his way back to the median…which would make the Spurs even scarier than they are now.

That said, Green’s value to the team extends beyond his ability to hit shots. He moves the ball offenisvely, moves without the ball and makes guys pay for forgetting about him. He’s not just a stand-still stationary 2-guard. He’s great defensively and the Spurs have enough depth where he doesn’t need to play a ton of minutes.

Honestly, anyone in the Spurs system moves well without the ball offensively and is not just a stand-still player. It’s really not a skill for him, as the Spurs system promotes it. I get that a lot of the players in the league do not move without the ball well, but that’s because they weren’t being asked to like Pop asks for his players in his sets.

Green is a good defender and spot-up shooter, albeit inconsistent. He is not worth 11 million that’s for sure. He’s a good glue guy, but unlike guys like Crowder or Bazemore, he can’t dribble the ball well and does not have the strength or skill to create shot/finish around the basket. He is a product of the Spurs system, and he is a good role player, but there are a lot of other players out there that are cheaper that could do more than Green.

And I hope no one goes to the "winning" route, wherein one says that even if it does not show in the stats, the Spurs are winning so he’s doing good. I’m pretty sure shooting 34% percent from the field in THE BEST system in the league (with 2 great post up threats in Aldridge and Leonard) does not really help your team.

    Bellinelli and Neal.

Gary Neal is a really solid player who could’ve helped this team.

I agree Green fits well into the team’s rotation, but when he’s cold it hurts the team.  He doesnt’ do enough, the Spurs basically need that second guard to sink opportunistic 3s.  I don’t think Ginobli (too old) and Green (too unreliable) are good enough options.  I wish they were able to keep Bellinelli and of course Gary Neal.  It may hurt them but I think Aldridge Kawhi and the other PF FA they brought in, are just too much offense and will cover for the lack of 3 point shooting if Mills and Green don’t provide.

When they beat the Heat 4-1, all of their 3 point shooters played great.  When they lost, they all played poorly.  They really need that 2 guard to hit the opportunistic 3s, but again Kawhi shooting the way he has been kind of negates the 2 guard.

The 2 guard just needs to move teh ball and score occasionally, which vets of the system Green and Ginobli can easily do.  Maybe they can rbing back TMac, man I wish he played with them longer.

Green shot an avg of 44% FG and 41% 3PT over the last 4 years.  Body of work says he isn’t as bad of a shooter as he is right now so he gets the benefit of the doubt along with the fact that he still does all the little things and is a good all around player still when he isn’t shooting well.  Now if we go say another year from now and it hasn’t gotten better he will likely get demoted.

Pop is GOAT. He developed this guy into a clutch and effective shooter. He’s had a slow year but Pop can live with him playing out his funk until it really matters.
