hoopscopParticipantI absolutely love Okafor, he will be an unbelievable NBA Player, but for weeks I believe Russell is a legit No 1 pick. He is such a great basketball player, he has this innate feel for the game where athletic ability is secondary (see Larry, Magic, Mullin etc.), his passing, shooting, a joy to watch.

llperezi finally watched him play a few games back and i loved what i saw. Gaurds are always gonna have a tough time being drafted over a big when its considered close but i think russell could be a star. Reminds me a little of brandon roy when he was in college, many said he wasnt a great athlete or whatever but the game was so natural for him and he stuffed the box score and had it not been for injuries he could have been the best player from that draft.

don042488ParticipantAllen Iverson was drafted before Marcus Camby, & Derrick Rose got drafted before Michael Beasley…Depends on the team, & their needs

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantIt’s funny how people say Brandon Roy wasn’t a great athlete but his profile on here gives him a 9 in that department

mrwehbeParticipantJust saw steve mills and allan houston at the game. I think they got what they came for d’angelo russell at his best. his skill set are great fit for the triangle offense. In my opinion they shouldn’t think twice if he’s available.

BiggysmallsParticipantIf you are a good basketball player, you should be a good fit in the triangle. Seriously people are waaaay overthinking how difficult (in hushed tone) the triange is. It requires players to not stand around with their thumb up their azz and move the ball.
Stupid players who only know how to shoot don’t fit in it but lets stop thinking the triangle is this incredibly advanced system that is near impossible to grasp and only a few certain players can fit into.
Russell would be an excellent fit for anybody drafting in the top 3 and I personally think he’s in play at 2 (especially if the 76ers get the pick and he gets hurt). Too many times people will compare a player to another guy that went to a specific school (LaVine to Westbrook at UCLA) or a lefty to a lefty (Muhammad to Harden), but Russell reminds me a lot of Harden/Roy. Sneaky athletic but really crafty and savvy. Excells with the ball in his hands but can also knock down shots and if he gets bigger and stronger he’s going to be a force. I could see him being a consistent 18-22 ppg 3-6 rpg and 4-6 apg

DolanCareParticipantOkafor is such a sure thing that it will be hard to pass on him at number one. He’s the kind of dude who can score 12-15 ppg his rookie year in any offense.
BUT if NYK gets the one pick I think they should go Russell. I’m sure playing with Melo is no treat for a rookie, but the Knicks need a guard with star potential. The great guards in the league aren’t coming up for FA soon- I think Russell fits the bill.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantHe’s top 3… Reminds me of Steph Curry allot. His game is really mature. Been watching him for a couple years now, when he played with Kasey Hill he was an off guard, now hes playing more PG and his game is improving..

BallBeenLifeParticipantI still think Okafor will be the #1 pick easily, but Russell is going to be a stud in the league. For a SG he can really dish the rock! It’ll be interesting to see how the lottery goes. I would love to see him go to the Knicks! I think he would fit in perfectly with the triangle and could be great playing next to Melo.

tfo1983ParticipantOkafor is too rare of a big man not to go #1.
Russell is an unbelievable player/athlete. I like Mudiay more than Russell, but there are some rare talents in this draft. Towns is a super athletic stretch 4, which is a big sell in today’s league. Johnson could be a shut down defender in the NBA. It really depends on his performance in March (if they get there…) and how the lottery shakes out.
You really can’t go wrong in the top 5 this year. Then, it’s quite drop but still some quality prospects there.

rileymcshea3Participant76ers need to take him first if they get the number one pick. He might not have the highest ceiling based off his athleticism, but I’d be willing to bet any one that he’ll be the best player out of this draft when it’s all said and done. Everyone knows about how good his offense, but I watched him guard Melo Trimble and he just completely locked him down. You could just see the look on his face that he wasn’t gonna let him score, and his quickness and long arms allowed him to do so.

HitsterParticipantRussell would be a good fit at Philly, at T-Wolves alongside Rubio he’d form an amazing combo. The Knicks would be hard pressed to pass on Okafor and Phil might really consider Mudiay if he wants to get a long term PG but Russell would be a great fit in the triangle and with Phil and Fisher to guide him he’d be in a good place.
Russell seems to be one of the buzz guys in the draft, I could see him overtaking Johnson and moving into the top 3 on mocks soon. The real pointer will be if he over taking Mudiay as the top guard in the draft.
As I always say we are still well over 4 months off the draft and the lottery will move around a fair bit between now and draft day.

properbreaksParticipantHe’s putting up some eye popping numbers and he has natural instincts, but not number 1. Okafur inside scoring abilities, size and talent is rare. But Russell has been dominant. When I look at him though, he looks 6 3.5 and not 6’5″ I might be wrong, but every time I see him I think, it’s no way he’s 6’5

rileymcshea3ParticipantI don’t think Russell should go first or second (Unless the 76ers have a top 2 pick) in the draft,Towns and Okafor should go first or second because big men are more valuable. With that being said I think Russell will be the best player out of the draft. This guy is so skilled ,you can tell he taught him self most of his moves. Guys like that work on there game so much that they create there own moves, guys like Kyrie(Dribbling moves), Magic and Bird(Passes), Harden(Euro steps) and many others, but the point is that shows how good his work ethic is and that he’s going to keep getting better.
Besides that he has great length that help on boards and defense, and his shot off the dribble is a deadly weapon when you combine his passing and creative finishing inside. ALA most of the top guards in the NBA.
I’m definitely on the D’Angelo Russel band wagon, and hopped on early

Although I feel stupid for comparing him to Russell Westbrook lol
