My Mavs made some nice moves in my opinion throughout the draft tonight. We got Shane Larkin, who is a good fit for us, I’m not sure where it leaves Darren Collison, maybe it pushes Darren to fight for his starting position and have a better year. In any case, whether he starts or comes off the bench, we got a quality guard in Larkin, who fits the mold of point guards that Dirk has always liked having, guys who look to pass, and can shoot the 3. And my favourite moment for my Mavs from this draft, the moment that got me screaming from excitement, we got possibly my favourite player in this draft, Ricky Ledo. I really think a lot of people have slept on him, and justifiably so, he didnt play a single minute of college ball and is relatively unproven outside of high school, but I really think he is a starting calibre guard a few years down the line, and could even be a rotation guy year one, but personally I think a year developing on the bench, maybe even the D-League, would be best for him. Down the line however, I see him being a big player in the Mavs plans.

Just got done watching the Mavs interview with Coach Carlisle and Donnie Nelson. It seems as if they where looking for a PG the whole way and hoped that either Burke, McCollum, or MCW would fall to them. As soon as they found out that they weren’t gonna get one, Larkin was there target the rest of the way and kept trading lower and lower to get him. Now it seems like they really like him and his ability to produce some offense but I get this feeling that they don’t see him as a future full time PG. Carlisle liked his ability to use screens to either shoot if they go under or attack if they go over. Donnie Nelson compared him to J.J. Barea in terms of his offense saying “He’a kind of in the mold of J.J. Barea and packs that kind of punch… He’s about as quick as it gets”. Nelson also stated that he sees Larkin as the 3rd PG that will compete for minutes. At the time of the interviews both Carlisle and Nelson said they couldn’t talk about Ledo since the trade wasn’t official but they both sounded excited when his name was mentioned.

My input on Larkin is that the Mavs using Larkin and Barea in the same sentence can be viewed as a good and bad thing. The good thing is, the Mavs loved Barea and were the only team that have him a chance. They even started him in the NBA finals. As for the bad thing, I think they are kinda underrating him. Larkin IMO is to much different from Burke, if you put Larkin on that Michigan team instead of Burke I’d say the results would differ and might even win the championship. Larkin has Lawson type quickness with a pure jumper. His defense may never be up to par with Lawson but he perfected the pick and roll game and knows how to run a team.
Ricky Ledo on the other hand is a big question mark. He may never get playing time or might become the starter in the future. You never know, but his potential and scoring ability his top 10 material in this draft. Very intruiguing but only time will tell the out come of Mr.Ledo.

Here is the thing about the Mavs draft ,we were entering the draft with the 13th,44th pick ,we are out of it with Larkin,Ledo & a future 2nd round pick + getting rid of Jared Cunningham
The future 2nd round pick usually has very little to no value to be honest as asset , Ledo has high potential ,but I am wondering if he can turn out to be good? declaring after sitting 1 year isn’t something I like but Kanter did it and he looks gr8 are gonna send him to D-League or let him play overseas like we did with Foster and Nivins?
Larkin is a good pick up,I am gonna admit that I wanted one of Shabazz/Schroeder/Adetokoubo ,all was available @13 ,but Larkin is good and it seems that Dirk loved him in the workouts (seems he attended most of them) so hopefully it is the right decision
Overall that isn’t a bad draft by any means, that said with our history I am in a “wait & see” mode

The consensus on the ESPN programme was that Dallas had been looking to get out of the draft or at least move down in order to give them maximum FA freedom but overall Dallas have come out with a decent package. Larkin gives them a high energy guy off the bench to give them some speed on court.
