Lotto StudParticipantThis will be 1 of the craziest Top 5s in history with possibly 3 foreigners to be selected which is not a major problem, but it’s kind’ve heard to critique them when they do not play against American talent.
Which past Top 5 Draft selections would you compare this group to?
- Kyrie Irving
- Derrick Williams
- Enes Kanter
- Jan Vesely
- Donatas Motiejunas

Memphis MadnessParticipantThe 2002 draft featured two international guys in the top 5, a Duke point guard, and two juniors.

SwatLakeCityParticipantI only see two foreigners going in the top 5. Vesely and Kanter. It all depends on draft order but I see Burks or Kemba making it into top 5 over Montie. But still that is pretty crazy. The closest I think it compares to is 2006 when Andrea Bargnani went #1 overall. He was the first international player selected #1 overall.

Lotto StudParticipantAnother thing is who is to say Bismack Biyambo won’t shyrocket up the draft boards tremendously with all the early buzz he has been creating as of now. I can only imagine his stock after pre-draft workouts versus the top 4/5s in this draft. Someone is going to fall in love with this kid. It happens year in & year out. Just look at the buzz Rubio created "Pistol Pete"

M-DYMESParticipantRubio’s stock was high because he was holding his own as a PG with great floor awareness and passing ability at like 17? (not sure on the age) against some of the NBA’s greatest talents. Biyambo hasn’t shown that same ability at such a young age. That is why Rubio was hyped so high. I think Biyambo probably goes higher than he should, but whose to say what is too high in a weak class such as this years. Might as well go after potential and he certainly has that.

JimmeredYaWabafetParticipant2002 draft top 5 is similar to your top 5, though the 1999 top 5 is close too
Elton Brand-Kanter
Jonathan Bender-Vesely
Lamar Odom-Donatas(stretch but similar)
Franchise-Kyrie Irving

Memphis MadnessParticipantMemphis tyga 23,
I can’t wait for the Memphis Tigers season to start next year. How ’bout you? We are LOADED. I think Simpson will help. Adonis Thomas didn’t do too well in the Nike game and in the McDonald’s game but he is talented.
Could be an AWESOME college basketball season all around!
… outside the lottery, I am wondering what the Bulls (Rose) will do and what the Grizzlies will do. I like Skeen a lot. The Bulls should look at him as another 3 point shooter and rebounder off the bench. A 3 point shooting small forward is also what the Grizzlies need. Hope we take Skeen if he drops that low (doubt it). I have us taking Matt Howard at 49 but that may be a stretch. But, he could take Shane Battier’s place in the lineup in a couple of years. At the center and point guard spots I like Hamed at center (he should play more) and Vazquez at point (has good size and can hit the three. good ball handler), and I think OJ can handle the ball some next year. So the Grizzlies are looking at finding a replacement for long-term replacement for Shane Battier (hustle, leadership, 3 point shooting, some rebounding, can play the 3 and 4).
If those guys are gone then we could look at Alex Tyus for shot-blocking.
Assuming we don’t trade the pick I can see the Grizzlies going in a bunch of different directions. But with Rudy Gay coming back next year, and hopefully we resign Z-Bo, Gasol, and OJ we are gonna be pretty stacked. I think we should trade Xavier for cash and some future picks. I would rather have T.A./OJ/Sam Young at the two. If we do that then I like Ravern Johnson as a guy who can actually hit shots (which, unfortunaely, Xavier couldn’t do this year).

Lotto StudParticipantI think Kanter will be a promising player depending on where he goes. I like him with 2 teams
- Washington-Starts at the 4 with McGee still at the 5, moves Blatche to the bench to become a high energy guy which is much needed.
- Toronto-Kanter being there will give them all the flexiblity to do whatever they want with Barg. Move Barg to the 4 permanetly, bring him off the bench or trade him to free up his spot for Davis

butidonthavemoneyYao is foreign?! Since when?!

JoeWolf1I think with this draft being so weak a lot of teams will reach for foreign players in the 1st round that they would normally wait to pick up in the 2nd round.

SwatLakeCityParticipantYes, MilwaukeeBucks5, Yao was the first international player taken 1st overall. Bargnani was the first european taken 1st overall. My bad. But I still don’t see three internationals players in the top 5. I can see two but not a third..

Dale WorthingtonParticipantYao is not foreign. He’s from Chinatown. It’s a district in Man Francisco.
