    Report: Chris Paul’s agent seeks trade

    ESPN.com news services

    Chris Paul‘s agent has told the New Orleans Hornets that Paul will not sign a contract extension and wants to be traded to the New York Knicks, according to league sources, Yahoo! Sports reported.

    Paul

    But Hornets general manager Dell Demps, who has heard several trade overtures for the All-Star point guard, wants to meet with Paul and hear that from him, once lockout-related restrictions on front office contact with players are lifted, according to the report.

    Demps declined to meet with reporters on Thursday, but has said that his top priority is to work on an extension.

    Paul, who was working out with his current teammates on Thursday, described various reports about where he might be traded as "just rumors."

    "You can’t control it. It’s always going to happen. It’s part of the game," Paul said. "I’m just happy to be back with my team."

    "I don’t think about it, to tell you the truth," Paul said of the trade rumors. "I’m just ready to get out here and compete and hoop. This is what I do. I love it.

    "I have a very tight circle and they know this whole lockout thing’s been driving me nuts, so I’m just happy to get out on the court and compete. This is the way that I express myself, by playing basketball, so I can’t wait to get out there."

    Paul, who has been the object of rampant trade talk because he can opt out of his contract after this season, joined Trevor Ariza and Quincy Pondexter at the team’s suburban training center. They were working out with Paul’s personal trainer because they cannot work with team staff until the new labor agreement is ratified.

    Thursday was the first day NBA players were permitted to use team facilities for voluntary workouts since an agreement was reached to end the lockout.

    "I’ve got to be the happiest person in the world right now just to be back in the gym, getting a chance to work out with a couple of my teammates," Paul said.

    In New York, Paul’s U.S. Olympic teammate Carmelo Anthony said he is not involved in any effort to bring Paul to the Knicks.

    Anthony also said he hopes Paul doesn’t endure months of uncertainty, as he did with the Denver Nuggets before finally being traded to New York.

    New Orleans has only five players under contract. Center Emeka Okafor, who is traveling in Thailand, is expected back as soon as this weekend. Jarrett Jack was expected to join the workouts on Friday.

    Shooting guard Marco Belinelli, a restricted free agent who has a tender offer from the Hornets, plans to arrive by Monday.

    Demps, who was allowed to start discussing the frameworks of deals with agents on Wednesday, must fill out the rest of the roster through a compressed free agency period. If the new labor deal is ratified as expected, the Hornets open camp on Dec. 9.

    The Hornets’ regular season schedule is expected to begin in late December but has not been officially set.

    Paul said he thinks the Hornets’ priority should be to figure out whether free agent David West is willing to come back.

    "That’s like a brother to me," Paul said. "I’ve never played a season without him."

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    What the hell do the Knicks plan on giving the Hornets in return? A few baseball cards, a ball of lint, a paperclip, and a pog? They have NOTHING to offer that would even come close to a good return, especially after the whole ‘Melo deal. The only way this would ever happen would be if they were to get more teams involved somehow.
    So cp3 puts a gun in the head of NO telling them : accept 2 hotdogs and the former contracts of buck williams( let’s sign him) chris dudley and jerome james OR I go free. Is it fair for the other teams ?
    this lockout was a joke… a bad one.
    What will be the face of the nba in 5 years ? 5 or 6  competitive teams and 25 24 nbdl teams. There will be around 50 60 games for each team in a season with no competition at all.
    Thats the only thing I can work with, plus as many draft picks as the Knicks have lol
    Hornets are in a lose lose situation. Already owned by the league, poor attendence, and now facing the high possibility of losing their heart and soul, this team is going to sink VERY fast. It’s time to pack it in and get as many draft picks as possible and start from the ground up. I also feel bad for Monty Williams, who surprised me as a coach last year. He’s a good coach but not having that elite player like CP3 is going to be brutal for them to win even 20 games this year.
    Only reason why I added Okafor in the trade was so the Hornets can save more money. None of the pieces they get are great but they will have some financial flexibility. The Knicks get what the want but are going to have to convince a lot of free agents to fill up their roster and take minimum contracts, which I’m not sure if they will since they are so over the cap space.
    are the knicks allowed by the league to trade their 1st  round draft picks for the next 20 years ???
    Did the rules of the new CBA give the right to nba teams to deal their 1st round draft picks several years in a raw ? I really don’t see where they can find some draft picks after the melo’drama trade…
    Since I don’t feel like doing my own research on the subject, is there any reason the Knicks couldn’t use the amnesty clause on Billups and then use the free cap space to trade for Paul? That way the Hornets wouldn’t be burdened with the extra $14 million dollars this season.
    Paul and Okafor in exchange for Fields, Walker, Turiaf, Douglas, Shumpert (if possible), Balkman, cash considerations and any possible draft picks.
    It’s messy for both teams, but it gets the Knicks their third superstar and resets the Hornets roster.
    and A super sized F U to the fans of all NBA teams not named…The Lakers,Celtics,Bulls, Knicks and Miami Heat…The Thunder are one of the only teams built the Right Way(through the draft and minimal roster moves) and even they have a strange Tainted feeling(Hijacking The Seattle Super Sonics, shady Deal with Boston that gave them Ray Allen and a Championship, trading the same player Boston would have drafted back to Boston(Jeff Green)..etc,…
    It’s become clear…
    If you play outside of the LA,Boston,New York, Chicago,OKC and South Florida area you can kiss all hopes for a Superstar goodbye…
    sure Dallas,Detroit and San Antonio have all won Championships in this Era of Superteams and 0 competitive balance, but even they had All Star rosters, maybe not Super Star rosters but All Stars were a plenty…
    Dallas…Dirk All Star and HOF-Kidd All Star and HOF-Caron Butler(although Injured) was an All Star at some point, Marion a former All Star, Tyson Chandler is a Team USA Center because he plays all star level defense and Rebounds at a great level…Terry was a near All Star level player at some time with The hawks and then becomes a Super sub…They’ve also had the Likes of Steve Nash and Micheal Finley at some point as well…you don’t remember any of there picks becoming Impact players or Even sniffing the Starting Lineup yet they just won a Ring…They were gifted Dirk early on by the Bucks because *SPOILER ALERT * Dirk didn’t want to play in a Small Market…Scrubs like Jillian Yi have pulled off this BS too…
    The Pistons were loaded with All Star level players too…Billups,Rip Hamilton,Prince,Rasheed and Big Ben, Dice was at all star level before some injuries…and they almost got Wade or Bosh in between all of that, and found a guy Like Stuckey at the back end, AI was also through there as well…hell had Darko panned out, who knows what could of happened in Detroit…
    The Spurs have actually been the Leaders in drafting a Championship…David Robinson was drafted by the Spurs, paired with Duncan some years later with another high…Manu and Tony Parker were absolute steals and they drafted other players that just played their roles to a tee…they also Had guys like Robert Horry, Avery johnson, Bruce Bowen,Micheal Finley and Brent Barry at some point…Duncan,Robinson,Manu and Tony Parker have all been All Stars…Not Super Stars but All Stars without much arguement…
    We cant complain about All Star Teams winning Championships when that’s what we’ve had for all this time…I will however complain when Super Teams ripped from every fan’s wet dream start popping up like pimples on Leroy Jenkin’s face, especially when there is a huge difference between pairing All Stars and pairing 2 or 3 top 10 players…There is a Huge difference…The Mavericks,Pistons and Spurs weren’t killing the talent pool and ruining the NBA, sure the ratings sucked but people could respect the Game…
    This is absolutely rediculous, no player should be able to force his destination when it is not logical at all for a team to give away their franchise player for a pile of crap. This is what Lebron and the heat started. Now every good player in the league feel the only chance of a title is to abandon ship and form alliances with other stars. I dont like where the NBA is headed at all.
    How are bad teams supposed to improve if once their stars reach stardom think "oh this team sucks I deserve to have a championship caliber team because Im a superstar" Real stars of the league stick it out and trust their management to eventually build a contender around them. Look what Kevin Garnett did, sure he eventually went to Boston but he stuck it out in Minnesota as long as he could until his career was exiting his prime and the wolves were starting to rebuild. I think the NBA needs to fix this teams should not have to always rebuild from scratch if it doesnt work out right away.
    But as for Chris Paul, if this is true I lost a ton of respect I had for him, he should recieve no less blame than Lebron did, he is fixing the league and its ruining the integrity of the game. Seriously how are small market teams going to continue to exist when their is consistently going to be 4-5 super teams? My Bobcats have no hope, and hope is the reason fans of losing teams go to games. Take away the hope, take away the fans. Unless owners of these super teams plan on sharing a ton of their profit, look for the NBA to consider contraction in the next few years.
    Why is everyone complaining these guys wanna play where they wanna play, you cant force someone to play in Toronto, New Orleans, Orlando, Cleveland, Denver, Milwaukee or wherever if they dont want, they give these franchises 5-7 years to get it together if they dont make the correct moves, then its time to go, why are guys so obsessed wth seeing these guys in mediocrity, Kobe was about to leave LA until Pau came, KG was loyal as hell to Minnesota yet nothing came to life, if CP3 wants to play with Carmelo and Amar’e let it happen, if Wade, James and Bosh wanna play together let them they are not entitled to shiiiiit but playing ball and if after 7 years of being with a team I wanna go somewhere else and ball then Ima do it, loyalty starts with yourself and your family, basketball is a business it isnt personal
    the issue is (if that’s true) that this kind of trade won’t be fair for NO as for all the other teams.
    it kills real competitivity in nba… and it send a sad message to NY or all big markets management : you can do all the mistakes, bad signings, bad moves you want cause players will force their trade to you, and the nba don’t protect the other teams.
    Because they are getting paid millions of dollars to play for the city they play for. If every player got to choose where they wanted to play then might as well contact the league because who the hell is going to choose Toronto? I agree with you that if management doesnt get it done a player should have the right to switch teams………..but that doesnt mean they should be able to screw their team over and force a trade where their team gets practically nothing in return. There are plently of other teams that Paul could go and be competetive and where the Hornets could get something useful back in return, Ala Westbrook. But instead Paul is shooting his NO fans in the foot by saying im leaving and you guys are going to get a pile of dog shit to replace me whether you like it or not. There needs to be competetive balance in the league and that is more important than a player playing in his preferred city. The competetive nature of the NBA shouldnt be based on what city is best to live in it should be based on which teams did the best jobs "building" a contender, not "recruiting" like Calipari does in college basketball. The best franchise’s deserve to be competetive not the best locations.
     He is dilusional if he thinks the Knicks could package something together for NO that would be a fair trade.
    Douglass and Feilds would be a start, but I just don’t see it happening
    What good would Melo, Amare, CP3, Jared Jeffries, Jean Shorts Harrellson and the top 7 players of the Erie Bayhawks accomplish?
    Hornets should’ve done what the Jazz did they got a nice package back for DWill.
    Now the Hornets are kind of screwed.
    As for draft picks the 2012 is gone to the Rockets unless its top 5 which is very doubtful.
    Nuggets will receive the Knick’s first-round pick two years after the Knicks surrender their 2012 first-round pick to the Rockets.  Nuggets have option to swap 2016 first-round picks with the Knicks.
    Not sure what else the Knicks could’ve given the Nuggets in the deal.
    As for saying the Knicks trading their draft pick for the next 20 years come on.
    I think the rule is you can’t trade your pick for consecutive years.
    Even if he didn’t want to play for the Knicks why would he stay in New Orleans they were a title contender for 1 season really.  The Knicks gave up a ton for Mello and were the only team willing to guarantee 5 years to Amare nothing against that in the rules.  They made a smart move drafting Fields and signing Mozgov.
    Lets not forget what the Lakers did in the past giving up nothing for Gasol.  Boston gave up Al Jefferson, 2 1sts and plenty of players for KG no one said it was bad for the league.  For some reason when Lebron went to Miami and the Knicks started up with their own big 3 everyone says its bad for the league.
    As for only a few teams being able to win it.
    Boston is on the down now with KG aging, no Perkins, Ray Allen and Pierce are in the mid 30’s.  Chicago won’t have enough cap room to sign a significant player even next year.  They don’t have enough offense and they wasted a lot of their cap room on Deng and Noah who aren’t even All Star let alone stars.  The Lakers aren’t the same, yeah Kobe is still great and at worst a top 5 players but Artest, Fisher are way past their prime.  Who knows if Bynum can stay healthy and even then they are have a weak bench.  Blake, Luke Walton don’t do much they aren’t the same.
    Just because you spend doesn’t guarantee you win the Hawks have a huge payroll and can’t get out of the 2nd round.
    I’ll kind of enjoy a Big three like that in NY. I don’t mind CP3, but melo and amare are bums, and with no depth becuase of their greed eating up too much cap space, and D’Antoni coaching, they will never win a championship. So in 4-5 years when they are leaving their prime and trying to sign small deals with well run teams in a smaller markets to win a ship, we will all laugh at them.
    But on a more realistic note, CP3 will not be traded to NY. He may sign there this year, but I doubt a trade goes through. NO will get a better trade offer from a team NOT demanding an extension. Look how much NJ sent for Williams, knowing that they will only have him for 1.5 years before he can opt out. NY offer is a bunch of bench players. Some team will offer a young guy and a future first just to have Paul for a year, and hoping it can be enough to prove they are worth an extension.
    Back to a more unrealistic note, D12 and CP3 pair up in Houston and sign extensions. Scola is perfect post player next to Dwight, and Martin a great back court partner to Paul. They have more ex-first rounders still on their rookie deals then any team in the league, and own 4 first rounds in the next 2 drafts.
    I am not 100% sure, but isn’t CP3 represented by the same Marketing company that represents Lebron? I rember reading that a year or two ago. I think someone in Paul’s camp is influencing this, cause this is ridiculous. The way I see this happening is if David West comes back for very cheap, and Chandler or Nene for some odd reason wan to play in New Orleans. In that case, than they should tak ethe above mentioned deal posted by I May be BASED, and then sign a big like Chandler, and have West for cheap also, so a roster of Tony Douglas, Buillups maybe, Fields, Turiaf, Ariza, Bellinelli, Bill Walker, Pondexter, David West and maybe Chandler isn’t going to be a contender or anything, but isn’t the worst squad you could imagine after seeing what the Cavs went through.
