valentineI thought I’d create a bit of a list of some controversial Winners and Losers of draft night.
Winner: Teams who wanted to keep their draft plans secrets. There was weeks and weeks of misinformation, "multiple sources" and general garbage thrown around. But absolutely none of it was true. It looks like NBA teams have their confidentiality processes locked down, thus reminding fans to basically discard any rumors leading up to the draft (and there was plenty).
Loser: DX….Not only was their mock draft ridiculously wrong, they also pulled the ultimate draft ‘Faux Pas’….changing their mock draft once a draft pick was already known. Example: After a 2 month long smear campaign against Thon Maker, keeping him firmly in the second round, they have archived their 2016 mock with him at the #10 spot, right where he was selected. DX has basically been reduced to a laughing stock at this stage….and despite their glossy website, have had a horrible 2016. I guess you can put lipstick on a pig, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still a pig.
Winner: Draftnet….In a standoff between the Ingram vs Simmons debate, Draftnet came out on top. Despite the overwhelming Anti-Simmons sentiment (even on this forum), Draftnet stuck with what they believed and continuously referred to the "propoganda" that DX was creating. It turned out to be true….
Loser: Anyone that wants to visit the Draftnet website on draft day…..I don’t want to be too critical, but there’s a few certainties in life. 1) Josh Smith taking 3’s he can’t make. 2) Philly fans hypping up Trade Bait Okafor as the next dominant bigman and 3) the draftnet website crashing on their most important day of the year.
Winner: Euroballer: That post of him boasting the other day goes down as an all-timer. You gotta admit, even if he is batting 2 for 100, he got the better of everyone this time as no-one except him had Papagiannis on their radar.
Loser: Jake Fischer from Sports Illustrated who made the tweet about Thon Maker’s age the night before the draft, based on the multiple sources he was reciving suggesting teams were entirely ruling him out of the first round. Nice work Jake.
Any other winners or losers that I forgot to mention?

CDPHParticipantJalen Rose and Wilbon were horrible during the coverage.
The problem with NBA Draft coverage is there isn’t really an NBA Draft equivilent to Mel Kiper or Mike Mayock. At best, Chad Ford is Todd McShay.
The draft coverage lacks any real personality.
It was much better on TNT with Charles nd the gang. Who can forget Chuck talking to David Stern while Stern was at the podium? Bill Simmons didn’t know everything, but at least he was interesting.
This was a disaster in terms of coverage.

MopgrassParticipantThank you. That was killing me. Not only that, but Rose never listens to what anyone else says. He’d start talking about the wrong player when asked to assess someone or directly contradicting what the last reporter said while thinking they agreed.

220ParticipantI was wondering if I was the only one who couldn’t believe some of the terrible comparisons.
Also on quite a few occasions it was clear Jalen Rose just wasn’t listening. He kept going on saying how good some player would be for the team that picked them when it was already announced they were dealt somewhere else.

negguaryParticipantdraft.net forum posters, for posting their honest opinions, for the most part, on draft prospects without an unwritten bias for political, influential, or economical reasons. For everybody that gives their spill whether right or wrong whether it be for the love of the game, draft, or simply because your a fan of the prospect. That’s what sports journalism is missing, the genuine fan an unbiased opinion, everyone is trying to be too politically correct now a days.

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantOr talking about what kind of impacts rookies were going to have on their drafted team AFTER it was stated that they were part of a pre draft trade

MopgrassParticipantDraft Express puts an extreme emphasis on the “what have you done for me lately” Janet Jackson model. Caris Levert, Thon Maker, Dejounte Murray (amongst others) never saw the 1st round in the DX mock. If they didn’t set the world on fire last year, they were dismissed… which is a dumb way to assess talent.

pokieParticipantThe Nets were the biggest losers. To have to sit there and watch the Celtics pick at three and then know that they will wait a whole year just to watch them do it again is inventing a new kind of sports pain.

SubZeroParticipantThey made the best out of their situation by getting LeVert though. If he stays injured, it doesn’t really affect them too much because they’re the Nets. If he stays healthy and proves he was a lottery level talent, then they look like geniuses

CDPHParticipantThey’re going to be watching the Celtics take their pick in 2017 (swap) and 2018 (outright ownership).
Bad time to be a Nets fan.

220ParticipantI’m hoping Sean Marks can help them turn it around fast for the Nets sake and the rest of the East that has to see a strong Boston team add early lottery talent thanks to the ineptitude of Billy King.

Numbers_CruncherParticipantDid anybody else watch the Vertical on Yahoo and listen to Giovany throw a hissy fit to Thon Maker going 10th? He was pissed and know way did his last mock have him going 10th!!!!!!!!! Horrible!!!! I’m boycotting DX, whose with me?!!!! If you can’t live without the Schmidtz videos then just youtube them. For as much shit as Chad Ford gets for moving up guys a couple spots; I just won’t forgive this.

DolanCareParticipantDX got a lot wrong. But to be honest, I don’t care about how accurate a draft board is on draft night, I care about how accurate it is 5 years down the line. Did the players they have going high perform better than those they had lower.
That’s why Chad Ford’s actions a couple years ago were so unforgiveable. He moved good players up retroactively ahead of others that were bounced out of the league. In my eyes, Givony is vindicated if Thon ends up being a bust, discredited if he’s a beast.

Numbers_CruncherParticipantwhen it changed so egregiously at the end? They had Maker in the late 1st/2nd round. I have a tough time believing the NBA didn’t have it out for him because he was doing something they didn’t want (skipping college to play 5 years of HS in Canada). I mean seriously, why the hell is a rumor of him being 23 coming out on draft day? DX is now in the NBA’s back pocket and can’t be trusted. Just sad. I mean sports are supposed to be an escape from life and all its policical bs.
