McWinningParticipantLooks pretty good, but they left off St Louis, they return everyone from a team that finished fourth in the atlantic ten, and made it to the CBI finals, they also will have every player back for 2011 their whole teams was freshman, and sophmores, i think their a top 25 team this year, and think how scary they will be in 2011.

JNixonParticipantNo problem with this list that much. I think Florida State, Georgia, and Texas will all make their way to the top 25 next season though. Not really high on BYU, Wisconsin, or Butler though. All 3 are teams it’s not safe to bet against though in something like this.

CelticJayhawkParticipantEveryones so high on k-state. I can’t wait for them to be miserable, just like every other year. Rock Chalk Jayhawk baby.
MUCK FIZZOU.0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 1:57pm #316069
JNixonParticipantAre you hating because Kansas State will be better than Kansas this year? And miserable since when? Last time Kansas State was miserable, Jim Wooldridge was our coach. We won’t be miserable as long as Frank Martin is our coach. Hahaha. Silly Jayhawk fans. Sad you gotta be mad because y’all lost to Northern Iowa…

CelticJayhawkParticipantFrank Martin is nothing more then a well built man with an intimidating scowl. Why NI got a 9 seed still is beyond me, as they were top 25 throughout the course of the season. Pullen is nothing without clemente, and our back court is loaded with selby taylor elijah johnson ty reed and morningstar. State is better up front, but with the morris twins, combined with jeff withey and Thomas Robinson, it’s not by much. The Octagon of doom fails to compare to the Majestic Allen Fieldhouse, and the K State fans have as many combined teeth as their program does all time wins.

JNixonParticipantPullen will play off the ball with Shane Southwell coming in. Southwell is very similar to Evan Turner, so don’t think we’ll be missing too many beats with Clemente gone. Pullen is still going to be the sniper he has always been.
Frank Martin is as good a coach as there is in the nation. He’s more than a scowler. If you didn’t learn that last season, you will this year.
The KU backcourt is not loaded lets be serious. Tyshawn Taylor and Selby is really all you guys have. Reed and Morningstar are just mediocre role-players. Elijah Johnson is an athlete, not a good ball-player.
Kansas State will be better than Kansas next year. They only lose Clemente, who probably shot too much alot of times anyway. But don’t say I didn’t warn you. All of our guys are a year older, and Wally Judge & Nick Russell will break out, which is scary.

llperezim about to add the rankings from cnnsi.com as well and see if that changes anything. If you guys know any other top 25 rankings no older then the 1st of May let me know and i can add them.

CelticJayhawkParticipantI saw Southwell play in the region jordan game he’s a solid ball player but he’d not going to play much of a role this year. Was Westbrook known as more then a good shooter with great athleticism after his frosh year? Johnson’s a lot more then an athlete, and he’ll be more likely to break out then Judge, who was foul prone all of last year and looked lost every game. He’s always a great defender who’s quicker laterally, has longer arms, and quicker hands then any defender K State has. You win in the NCAA’s with great guards, and KU has them. K State does not.
Every team needs good role players. Ty Reed and Morningstar are great on ball defenders and excellent 3 pt shooters. CJ Henry is still on the squad aswell, and so is Royce Woolrige, who, according to many analysts at the Jayhawk Invitational, outplayed Harrison Barnes last year in that tournament.
Losing X and Sherron won’t be as big of a blow as many people think. Taylor Selby and Johnson are going to more then make up for that. Leadership won’t be a question either, with Taylor, the Morris twins, Reed and Morningstar all upper classmen. Withey will have a year similar to Aldrich had his sophmore year. Withey has a much better jump shop then Aldrich, but Withey isn’t as sharp on defence.
You can’t honestly tell me Frank Martin is a better coach then Bill Self. Please don’t even try, because your not only wasting your time, your also lying to yourself.

McWinningParticipantFreddy Asprillo will make a difference for K-state too, and id easily a upgrade over Colon. Also i think Judge has a breackout year he has too much talent. Kansas has some good parts but i agree Morningstar, and Reed are overrated,
i think Kansas finshes third in the conference behind K-state, and Missouri. Baylors overrated Tweety Carter, and Ekbe Udoh were arguably their two best players, and Perry Jones is good, but not quite ready to be a star.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 2:55pm #316086
McWinningParticipantAlso does anyone think Saint Louis has a chance of winning the Atlantic ten? every good team lost a lot of key parts except for them.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 2:59pm #316087
CelticJayhawkParticipantThere is zero chance Mizzou finishes in the top 3. Too young, not very good on defence, and when they’re press isn’t working, just not very good. Tony Mitchell and Phill Pressey, along with Ricardo Ratcliffe, are nice additions to the squad they already have, but i just don’t see Mike Anderson doing much with it.
Please keep in mind that as a die hard Jayhawk, i am in complete denial that both K State and Mizzou will be good, or possibly even better then us. I will never admit either of those two schools, along with ali fahroukmanesh, is on par with the University of Kansas and it’s players.

JNixonParticipantWe’ll see what kind of coach Self really is this year, when he has to develop guys and he has only decent talent relative to what he usually has. Martin got to the Elite 8 last year with 1 Mickey D’s guy on his roster (Wally Judge- who wasn’t a big factor last year at all). And he will have a top team this year again. I don’t think Self would’ve gotten Kansas State to be as good as they were last year if he was the coach. I think Kansas would’ve been a Final 4 team last year if Coach Martin was the Kansas coach.
I’m not going to argue about Southwell’s PT, because he’s going to play a bunch next year. He has the ability to play PG-SF next year, and he could see a good deal of time at PG. Either him, Martavious Irving, or Nick Russell will be the PG. I’m willing to bet on Russell or Southwell though. Both are going to be big PG’s who can pass and shoot it well. Both teams have good guards, so let’s not make it like Kansas State will be held back by not having good guards. Pullen is a likely All-American next year. How many teams can say that they have an All-American in the backcourt?
How is Elijah Johnson more likely to break out than Judge? He’ll be playing behind KU’s too best and most valuable players, and he looked ALOT less effective than Judge did even when given the chance. Judge was raw and not really ready last year, but we’ll be a starter next year and he will be alot more adjusted to the speed of the game than last year. He’s got the physical tools, so his adjustment will make him better. He also played most of his best games against Kansas, so the potential is there.

McWinningParticipantLol you mean the same Mike Anderson that took a bunch of 2 and 3 star recruits to the elite eight? they have plenty of defense Bowers, Green, who is maybe the best defensive prospect in this draft class, Mitchell is very lengthy too, and they have two ultra quick points in Pressey, and Dixon, and Mitchell might be the best freshman in the big 12.
and Ricardo Rattliffe, is gonna make make a huge difference the dude shot 65% from the field, and 44% from three, and hes a great rebounder too absolutely dominate juco.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 3:08pm #316098
McWinningParticipantI think Self is one of the better coaches in the country, but i would take both Martin, and Anderson over him, Martin might be the best coach we have right now besides Tom Izzo.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 3:09pm #316100
JNixonParticipantHow can you honestly say Mizzou is not good on D? They are easily one of the toughest teams to play against in the Big 12. That press they run is tough. Mike Anderson took a less talented team to the Elite 8 2 years back. Kim English is a talent offensively on the wing, their guards can all push the ball and pressure it in that full court press, and Bowers, Ratcliffe, and Ramsey are all long and athletic as hell. Mizzou is a top 10 team next year. Don’t be biased. I’m a K-State fan and I’m admitting it.

llperezsome notes of the rankings:
# of teams to be ranked in all 8 rankings- 17
Teams that cracked the top 10 and also went unranked on at least one list-Missouri, Temple, Syracuse, BYU
CNNSI is the only site that ranked Old Dominion and they have them at #14, so they either know something everyone else doesnt, or they are off.
2 sites pointed out they ranked washington without terence jones in the mix and that they would move them up if he remains committed
1st team out based on points on this list-UNLV
duke, purdue, and michigan st were all ranked top 3 on every single poll, thus they are the unanimous top 3 teams.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 3:16pm #316103
McWinningParticipantDid Saint Louis get ranked in any of them?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 3:17pm #316104
knicksfan7Participantllperez, as an avid follower of the CAA, and a student at a CAA school. I can tell you that CNNSI is way off to have ODU ranked at #14. They lost there best player, Gerald Lee, they will be good, but in no way are they even worth being ranked.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 3:19pm #316105
llperezno. I listed every team that got at least one vote in the “other’s recieving votes” portions.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 3:22pm #316106
llperezknicksfan, the writer who made the poll for CNNSI actually pointed out that he was well aware they were losing their best scorer but that they had great defense or something like that. He also put BYU top 10 and put my Washington huskies at 21, so boo him.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 3:24pm #316107
knicksfan7ParticipantODU does play great defense, but to make them @ #14 that’s Butler-esque since this is mid-major basketball. ODU is a very good team, but they are not in any shape or form #14 in the country, #34 is much more realistic.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 05/15/2010 - 3:32pm #316109
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantIllinois could be top 5 this season. I think there are a potential final four team.
I’m also glad to see my Blue Devils at #1. Michigan St isn’t in our league.

JNixonParticipantIllinois is going to be scary next year. I, for one, am glad McCamey returns. They have advantages all around the court.
