In what order of importance would you hold a prospect? Is how the prospect does at the combine… Looks on video… Or how old the prospect is… more important? So many prospects are so close this year you have to account all 3 obviously.

For me its all about how good the player currently is, whats his upside and whats his fit/role in the NBA. Combine and video is just scouting. Helps you know how good he is now and what his upside is. Athletic testing and measurements are the biggest part of the combine for me. How old a guy is just plays into his upside. Usually younger guys have more upside, but athletic ability and measurements play into that. Terry Rozier was older, very raw, but was a great athlete with a huge wingspan. So he had great upside still.

     1. workout and interview (Tatum looked better than Fultz/ Mitchell and Kuzma better than the rest, if you have IQ it definitely helps (Brown,Nowitzki …))

    2. stats (read the important stats, example OBPM, DBPM, USG%, TRB%, ATratio ………, translate the numbers (what position, who is the coach, what does that mean in the NBA, who was the teams first option, why was the playing time cut, ……)

    3. combine (wingspan, quickness, vertical helps; 5on5, interviews, shooting drills are very important, but if you have above basketball IQ or above fighting spirit you can survive without crazy numbers)

    4. videos (1on nobody dunk tells nearly nothing, a million players can hit open threes without nba defense and without sweating (sorry Stauskas). There are some good workout videos that tell a story (Example: Oladipo). Look closely and interpret, dont jump to much on the jumper)

    5. age (you can still improve after the age of 20 !! Example : J. Butler, Rozier. You can hit the jackpot with an 18 years old Giannis or lose with Caboclo. The past showed that age over 20 does not hurt (Example: Mitchell, Kuzma). Some are nba ready at the age of 19 (Tatum), other need a year or two or three (Ingram).  Dont overreact because someone is a junior/senior. Some freshman have reached there ceiling at the age of 19 (sorry Michael Beasley, sorry MKG)

To be  fair it all depends on who the team drafting the player is: Some value how ready the prospect is: See Kuzma and lakers or Mitchell on the Jazz. Who can contribute right now and needs very little developing…

Some value potential to be special and have time to wait-See bucks with Giannis.

Some go for the prospect that they just need to add a few more tools to their already good skill set and they will be special-See Taytum(consistent defense),Simmons(a jumpshot) and Embiid(taking shots from 3) for example.

Some want to go for fit or need. See Lakers with Ball who filled a need that would help elevate the rest of their pieces..

But personally I think what the prospect ultimately become all depends on the Organization teams that have the right player development in tend to have a higher chance of success see OKC vs Kings for example Steven adams under the Tutalage of their bigs coach has become awesome vs WCS who has become average at best under theirs. Yet WCS was 5th overall vs Adams going 12 in his draft..
