Let’s start a list with all the drill pull outs and debate as to whether they are making a mistake by pulling out. Cite source too please.

    Mason Plumlee
    CJ McCollum
    Cody Zeller
    Michael Carter-Williams

I think participating in the combine has greater effect than not participating

Plumlee – No easily a Lottery selection off size alone plus skill set
McCollum – Yes too many PGs are projected in the first round and he can get passed up by Schroeder
Zeller – Yes has not solidified himself could get passed up by other bigs
MCW – Yes he has room to show he can improve on skills such as shooting

Any of the lottery guys should be fine with pulling out, the only drawback is if there is someone who plays the same position who is projected similar to where you are that impresses during workouts, it could come back to haunt you. If any of these guys gets promises, however, there should be no worries.

Any info on if injuries are the cause of pulling out? With McCollum I would suspect could be the case. A guy like Plumlee would really thrive in the combine setting much like his brother. As far as the other guys go I doubt they hurt/help themselves by working out or not.

These are the skill drills that they’re pulling out of, not the athletic testing. It makes sense for a guy like MCW to not participate because he can’t shoot.

I’d make these drills mandatory if players choose to attend the combine. Year after year, agents are telling their clients to participate in less and less because more info = more scrutiny.

By letting agents dictate and pick and choose the testing each player does the game is being unintentionally hurt. If each player had more information available, less busts would be filling their coiffures with our hard earned money, allowing our teams to actually find players who fill needs and not just guesstimate based on (*gulp*) p-p-p-potential. I like your idea very much. Players and agents need to remember that the NBA isn’t a right, its a privilege.

According to an article from CBS, it sounds like Trey Burke also will not be doing any of the basketball drills.

Honestly, the basketball drills don’t really matter at the combine. They’ll be put through all of that in team workouts anyways.

be doing the physical testing as well at each team workout, too. The point is that it is a way to evaluate in a huge, intense, pressure-packed setting. If, say, Michael Carter-Williams, makes 35-50 3pts in an individual workout for a team but hits 10-50 at a packed NBA combine, that to me speaks volumes about a players clutch instincts, nerve and heart and is much closer to the player they will be on day 1 in the league. I do wish the league would bring back 5 on 5 at the combine, for sure…. Would be a far better barometer…

Also, does anybody know what they’re doing tomorrow for the combine? Trying to decide if I want to watch.
