I’ve watched a lot of Indiana games, especially in the NCAA tournament, and I really like Zeller.

He has great footwork in the post with an array of post moves that are fantastically developed for a freshman. He plays with a lot of heart and has a lot more rebounding and especially offensive post potential than his brother. Chris Kaman comparison is very good.

I really think he will be a top 5 pick next year, but does he really deserve to be over Shabazz Muhammad or Nerlens Noel? I have seen the clips of Muhammad and he has LOADS of more potential than Zeller. He has amazing athleticism and a good shooter too. I love the Janes Harden comparison but I think Muhammad is even more athletic. Even Noel has more potential because of his amazing athleticism and defensive ability.

I think Zeller will be a great pro, better than his brother for sure. But does he really deserve to be the number 1 pick over Noel and especially Muhammad?

Wat are your thoughts on him and his new mock draft posititon?

Cody Zeller is really solid. As far as does he deserve to be over Muhammed and Noel? That is hard to say considering neither guy has played a game of college ball yet. But, if you look at the nba draft and how things tend to go it would seem that Noel would be the guy listed at #1. Then Steven Adams at 2 then Muhammed at 3 then Zeller at 4.

I think he can end up a franchise 5 – Brook Lopez’s offense with actual effort and rebounding on D that could and should end up along the lines of a Gasol.  It’s incredibly difficult to say that he’d go above a bunch of guys who didn’t play yet, but given positional scarcity, it’s a possibility.

Will say, it is not out of the question. The kid is legit and though I still think Shabazz Muhammad is my odds on favorite for the top spot, Zeller could be in the running if he improves on what was just a monster freshman year. Zeller is much more offensively polished than either Noel or Adams by a long shot. I do not know if he has the same long term potential, but he is a solid athlete and his impact as a freshman big man was incredibly impressive.

Indiana could be a potential title favorite next season if Zeller is back manning the middle. Their top 5 scorers would all be back and I think that Yogi Ferrell will make an immediate impact as a freshman as well. Jeremy Hollowell should also be ready to contribute and they get a big time athlete in Hanner Perea to also play a role. If Zeller mans the middle of a championship team or even a competitor, he will be in the run for a top 5 choice. If he leaves this year, think there is little way he makes it past 10.

Still think it is too early to start worrying about who will be the first pick in 2013. We had a few different ideas for 2012, and 2013 should be much more open to discussion. I think that Muhammad, Adams, Noel and Zeller will all be in the discussion.

Idk if he’ll even leave after next year. he’s serious about his degree and what not. If he’s tagged as a top 3 pick that could probably sway him tho.

If you are comparing them right now I would honestly take Noel 4th

Yeah, it makes for great conversation on who’ll be the top pick in 2013..But things can change ,becuz we have no idea how fast these high schoolers will adjust next fall…Last year this time, nobody would’ve said Thomas Robinson might be a top 5 pick or Sullinger might fall out of the top 10….Guys  like Mitch McGary,Jarnell Stokes,Dewayne Dedmon,Rodney Hood might play better then expected..All have the potential to be top 10 picks next season…..

Cody Zeller is a great prospect and might go as high as number 5 this year, becuz of his terrific post skills and footwork….But my only concern is his rebounding at the next level..He has short arms and his lack of length, unless he gets stronger,he’s going to have a hard time trying to out battle stronger, more athletic guys with great wingspans..So he must continue to work on getting stronger…

I’m really high on this kid.  I mean he more than held his own against Anthony Davis, and the scary thing is that Cody still hasn’t added strength yet.  He is super quick, hustles and has really smooth post moves.

If he were to enter this year where would he get drafted?  I think he may have a shot to go number 2 in this draft.

Classic case of the skilled big man (Zeller) vs the more athletic potential-laden one (Noel)…i think both of them will be good but i really like Zeller’s game, he doesn’t back down from anybody and attacks opposing big men. He’s a lot tougher than people give him credit for…

Pre-injuries Chris Kaman is a good comparison

He is a talent on offense for sure. His footwork is real promising, and he has the touch and athleticism to really be a threat offensively in the NBA. He doesn’t like the physical battle right now and needs strength, but he’s the best offensive big prospect out there IMO. He also has the touch to develop into a threat from 15-18 ft. He does need to get better on the glass, as he only gets 6 rpg and I dont think that will improve much until he undergoes a transformation in his strength and his approach to the physicality down low. He has a good bit of upside, especially considering IU’s guards sometimes strayed away from him down low and he had to create alot of his scoring opportunities because they didnt have the dribble drive game to get him all that many easy baskets.

Indiana will be a top 5 team with him next year. He still needs work on his rebounding, mostly positioning on both off and def glass. Also his post defense needs work. He would allow opposing centers to get deep position and hope for help.

I think he was generously listed at 230lbs this year, more like 220-225. He needs more strength to deal with NBA centers/power forwards. To continue nit-picking, he didn’t show much range on his jumper. Not sure he hit from futher than 8-10ft out this year. Having seen him in HS, I know he has about 18-20ft range, just didn’t show it this year.

Having said all that, if he comes out this year, he’s a top 10 pick. The only center in college who can match his bball IQ is his older brother, Tyler, and I’d argue Cody’s is higher. Then there’s a big gap to Dummond/Myers. Drummond and Tyler have more strength. Cody has the best combination of everything it takes to be "great".

Given the need for 5s at the top of the draft, I could easily see him going top 5 this year, if not more like top 3.  I’d likely take him over Drummond and Barnes at this point given their respective floors.  I like him more long term than TRob thanks to size.  That leaves MKG and Beal… at which point you’re going need… and most teams seem to need a 5.

Cody Zeller has t-rex arms (6’8" wingspan). That’s a legit concern.

It would be a concern if he wasn’t good, but he has the nice fall back of talent. Now, he does need to gain weight. That goes without saying. He is an 18-year old who looks like one, but his short arms didn’t keep him from going right at Anthony Davis and scoring. The problem for Zeller is that ideally he is a center, but probably lacks the strength to do so in the NBA right now.
