The numbers don’t lie…..11 final fours, 4 nationa titles, winningest all-time coach in NCAA men’s basketball history, one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time.  But what in the world is Coach K doing recently?  Let’s start 2 years ago with Austin Rivers…….not a team player at all, something Duke has always prided themselves at having.  Selfish, ball-dominant guard.  Highly ranked recruit but never bought into the team concept.  Duke loses to Lehigh in the NCAA tournament.  Two years later K, gets Jabari Parker, best recruit in the country next to Wiggins, four straight state titles, cover of sports illustrated, touted as the best recruit since Lebron.  Gifted scorer and warriors mentality, absolutely atrocious defender.  77 turnover and 41 assists in 35 games. .Talked about as a likeable guy, high character, high basketball IQ.  Never ever passes.  Never looks to get others involved.  Talked about as a team player, but tape shows something completely different. Takes a TON of shots for his points. A coach whose based his program on defense can’t teach his best player simple defensive principles, rotations or anything resembling a decent defender.  Athletic 7 footer Marshal Plumlee, never developed any sort of post moves or offense game whatsoever.  Relegated to the bench on a team desperatley needing size.  Parker and Hood were the best offensive tandem in the country all season.  Duke loses by 7 to Mercer in tournament this season.  K has not lacked in talent rcently but has dropped the ball 2 of the past 3 seasons.  His top talent has not risen to the occasion in key moments.  K deserves criticism for his recent coaching jobs from Duke haters and more importantly Duke supporters who are fed up with another early tournament exit.  Coach k is probably the greatest college coach of all-time but one has to question his recent coaching efforts.

Thats a cop out saying hes not the problem and the one and dones are.  One and dones can be coached.  Cal did it masterfully with MKG and Anthony Davis and had one of the most dominant teams ever with 2 freshman as his best players.  I don’t care about the national championship in 2010.  When you have a program at the level of Duke and youre losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Lehigh and Mercer with loads of Mcdonald’s all-americans and tons of high level recruits you derserve as much criticism as praise when you are going to final fours.

And visit the NIT you deserve criticism…   When was the last time Chapel Hill had an NBA All-Star in the league?? Vince Carter??  He came out in the 90’s…  Fact is Roy is the old Coach K, taking top caliber players and dropping their stock…  They come back for an additional year and they still don’t get far…  The talent, depth, experience that’s on Roy’s teams year in and year out I don’t see why he continue to get Top 10 commitments…  You wanna bring up Duke’s issues…  Look at your own damn house first…  An NIT???  NIT???  Really???  What’s the excuse?? They were young???  FOH

Coach K will do well IF his team is a lot better than the other guys.  If not be will probably lose.  He might even lose to a team with EQUAL talent.  He’s consistent and will get Duke to the Dance, and usually to the Sweet 16 but he will have some duds, and disappoint at times.

Calipari took some really good Memphis teams to the Elite 8 and a Memphis team with an all time great college backcourt (and some other solid guys) to a butt kicking of Kevin Love, Westbrook, Darren Collison, and others in the Final Four.  Then the Anthony Davis Fab Freaks team to his first title.  He’s done a great job with an unprecedented run since 2005-2006 (first elite 8 with Memphis and that Darius Washington, Rodney Carney, Joey Dorsey, plus Laurenburg Prep class).

I think we deserve a Kentucky-Duke Final soon!

UNC on paper from top to bottom is one of the most complete teams in the country.  The amount of Mc Donald’s All-Americans on that team!!!! You disgust me…  How dare you talk about Coach K coaching efforts when Roy hasn’t been getting the job done since Ty Lawson left?  You want to step over that huh?  What did Chapel Hill do last year? Now, compare that to Duke…  Stuff happens…  It’s one bad game…  Jabari was playing out of position all year, Duke’s lack of depth was going to catch up with them…

Lost to Lehigh, cool…  Next year, won the National Championship…  Last time I checked Coach K has the most recent championship and the most recent Elite 8 appearance…  The hell Roy over there doing??? Trips to the NIT???  How dare you!!!!

UNC and Duke this year were both loaded with All Americans but no way were either a complete team. Let alone UNC being one of the most complete teams in the country. First of all UNC lost their best returning player in PJ Hairston (he deserved it so I won’t make an excuse for him) but still a very big loss. UNC has two players who can hit the three and a lot of bigs. How is a team who is unable to really shoot as a team one of the most complete teams in the country. This UNC has a strong front court and good inside game but have very little perimeter scoring. Also last year UNC sent 4 players to the NBA all first rounders so they had a down year last year. Roy Williams is not the best coach in the world any Tar Heel fan will tell you that but he has never lost in the first round and does have 2 national championships in the last ten years and a lot of deep runs in that time. You talk about the amount of all americans UNC but Duke has a lot of them too. Coach K is probably the best coach in college basketball history but you have to admit he hasn’t been very succesful in the last few years.

They have lost to a 15 seed and then 14 seed this year but unlike what you said they did not win a national championship in between. I don’t know where you got that information they did win in 2010 but not after losing to Lehigh. UNC and Duke are two elite college programs who while still have been pretty succesful the last few years just have not been able to win it all in recent years.

Hey it happens, that is why they play the games. You have to be super dominant and playing an outclassed team for the victory to be guaranteed.

I will chime in on a few things, first, totally agree that the Austin Rivers thing was a little strange. The kid was straight up mediocre and I have no idea why they put the offense in his hands as a freshman. Coach K often gets his teams to play a great press defense. But he has largely stopped developing his big men since the days of Laetner, Brand and Boozer. Now getting on him for not developing Marshal Plumlee when neither of his two older brothers ever really developed post games, might either be just a Plumlee problem or maybe it is just another example of Coach K not developing big men.  Now neither Plumlee in the NBA has developed a post game, but both are playing well above their draft position.

Side note, I though Coach K did a terrible job coaching the US Olympic team. Yes they got the gold, but they struggled from time to time and no team that has Lebron and KD on it should struggle. But Coach K surrounded his high efficiency shot creators Lebron and KD with low to average efficiency shot creators like RW, Kobi and Melo while leaving Chandler often on the bench.

Huh??? Did you not see how Coach K existence in the Olympics improved the league’s stars??  LeBron started playing defense and talking on D…  Everyone stepped their game up after the first Olympics….  You don’t know what you speak of…

I never said we were doing great recently.  I posted criticizing Coach K, not saying Carolina was doing so much better.  It’s impossible for any program to be great year in and year out.  But when you’re a program like Duke and have lost your first NCAA torunament game 2 out of the last three years, you’re going to be criticized.  Yeah, we went to the NIT, I’m not making excuses.  The last 2 years we haven’t been elite.  We haven’t produced amazing NBA talent recently.  Carolina has struggled, but Duke has had the top recruit in the country 2 of the past three years and both those years they lost in the first round to friggin Lehigh andf Mercer.  That should never happen.  Tuck, shut the bleep up.

       Harrison Barnes???

James McAdoo was considered a #1 pick beginning of last year…   Dude is barely considered first round this year…  You continue to make posts about Duke…  Save that for UNC

Harrison Barnes was a good player at UNC, not an all-american, but had a good two years.  He’s a solid NBA player and should have a decent career.  I’m pretty sure UNC went to the elite the two years Barnes was there and didn’t bow out in the first round of the NCAA tournament.  Mcadoo will always be a joke for UNC fans to swallow.  He’s a decent player, but yes, his stock has plummeted since his freshman year and is a fringe first rounder now.
