Lotto StudParticipantWhy do coach Cal PG’s Rose,Evans, & Wall excel in every aspect of their game except for shooting. @ Memphis/Kentucky, do they not focus on working on their jump shooting while they’re there? What is the main emphasis of a PG under coach Cal (scoring)? When it’s all said & done Brandon Knight, will be the best shooter under coach Cal to run the point, because he already has a J.

OhCanada-ParticipantCalipari is going for his 3rd straight rookie of the year, he gets the talent, and he shapes it into versatile PG machines. If he can turn Knight into a good playmaker, along with his already established skills, Knight could be another Top 5 draft pick.

Rock_Cat78ParticipantHere is what I posted in the thread below about Tyreke: Think about it. What are the strengths of Rose, Evans and Wall? Driving into the paint and using their speed and athleticism to score and make plays. Those guys were such superior athletes all through high school that they never were really forced to work much on their jump shot. Their physical abilities allowed them to get by. Now that they are at the NBA level, things don’t come as easily and you will see them have to continue to develop their jump shot.

jgunnaParticipantbut at the same time like Rock_Cat (cool name by the way) said, those guys played to their strengths @ the collegiate level. It wouldn’t have been in the best interest of those players, or the teams they played on to sit back and shoot jumpers when nobody could stay in front of them defensively.
Cal isn’t the greatest x’s and o’s guy, but he will definitely maximize the offensive ability of the pg’s he brings in going back to the days of Darius Washington (who probably should’ve left after his strong freshman year btw).

MkadozaParticipantMaybe because their only weaknesses entering college was shooting, and they stayed one year. Even a second year, a summer of college work would improve their jumpers. Like you said, Knight will be the best shooter he’s coached because of the one and dones, he came in with the bets shot. Did CDR not improve as a shooter under Cal?

Jayhawks2011ParticipantThink about their offense. They run the dribble drive, and the main goal of the dribble drive is to be able to get to the hoop and breakdown the defense. Thats what all of his pointguards to this point excel in.

On the other hand….look at his teams at Umass in the early and mid 90s and only two players from that era were ever drafted….Camby and Roe…..yet he had those teams highly ranked and adnacing far in the NCAAs

PurpleMonkeyDishwasherParticipantThey are all 21 yrs old or younger. How many pt guards come into the league shooting well? Stephen Curry is about the only one, and he’s not necessarily a pt. guard.
