As a Kansas fan I’m not the least bit surprised  that he didn’t get drafted, had a really disappointing season at Kansas, lack of offensive game and elite explosiveness was exposed but that’s just the half of it. I watched most of his workout interviews and he was talking down and blaming Kansas for his lack of development. When asked why he didn’t see the floort much in the beginning of the season he would answer with "I’ll leave that with Coach Self" or when asked what was the reason why we didn’t get too see what he was capable of he would answer with "The System" with a little grin on his face. I was so disappointed to see this, especially since I was actually a fan of his. He seems like a good kid with a decent work ethic (just bad interview mentoring maybe). I’d still like to see this kid make a roster.

I feel like atleast the Indian kid won’t have problems playing in D-league and actually developing. I think Cliff should go to other college for two years like a UCLA where he could work as P&R Power forward i think he could be a great.

Bill Self said he basically told Cliff to say what he said and he wasn’t talking down the situation

Like I mentioned to you all in a previous post..Cliff is talented but has some kind of learning disability aka slow..this is the NBA not college teams dont spend a lot of time going over things like plays etc etc.. I can totally see teams in workouts telling him to do something in a drill and not fully grasp it

I think that may be the problem Noah Vonleh had last year with Charlotte, trouble catching on and learning the plays etc.

I think that the interviews absolutely killed his chances of getting drafted.  After having seen some horrendous interview footage where he blamed Bill Self, and the system, and everything/one else for his troubles I can’t imagine any GM willing to burn a pick on him and wind up with an immature, and toxic player who is a project at best.

I would have thought that Kansas would have media training for these guys so that they can make it through the BS interviews at least.  I am sure that the individual team interviews are a totally different matter and that teams probably probed a little deeper and Alexander probably frightened them even more with his lack of insight and professionalism.  Combine that with his mediocre play when he was at Kansas, and the seedy stuff with his mother and an agent and cash…  I would have been surprised if any team used a pick on him.

I feel for the guy because he is so young, and does not seem sophisticated at all.  He oozes Lenny Cooke in terms of lack of insight and poor judgement.  Too bad because he could have gone a different way if he was just a tad more savvy, and had parents and coaches who actually cared about him instead of just treating him like a meal ticket.  I wish him the best and hope that he can get his head straight, and maybe catch on somewhere in the NBADL, or Europe.  He has a big hole to dig himself out of which was totally unnecessary, and of his own making.

The guy had the issue over his eligibility late on in the NCAA season so was probably left with no real choice but to declare for the draft. In the 2nd round teams often prefer to take a European or Worldwide stasher who they can watch develop and bring over if required.

I can understand that a lot of elite sports people may not be that bright, I’ve heard of professional sportsmen who struggle to read and write and they have used sport as an outlet but once their career is over they really struggle. There have long been rumours that some scolarships are given to guys who haven’t passed the relevant tests.

Cliff really needed to get his head down at Kansas and improve his life skills whilst playing for the Jayhawks and learning under Coach Self. If he has had issues with Coach Self then this feeds back to NBA recruiting teams, any decent GM would surely speak to college coaches to get their views on players, If someone like Bill Self says a guy has issues then that is a red flag to a lot of teams.

Alexander is only 19, so should get a Summer League spot and will get training camp invites plus maybe a D-League spot next year so he can have time to have further shots at the NBA.
