Chris Paul to the Clippers

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3csazvn

I think if the Clippers offered Minnesota's 2012 first rounder (which could get them somebody like Andre Drummond, James McAdoo, Athony Davis) plus a few more future draft picks, this deal would get done in a heartbeat. With Okafor and Ariza's contracts gone, and David West leaving in free agency, they can full on rebuild. Couple the Minny pick with their own high lottery pick they'll get 2 studs in a loaded draft and have no bad contracts on their roster. On the flip side, the Clippers obviously get their answers at the SF and PG positions, and I really think Ariza will be much better suited in a supporting role where he isn't asked to do too much. If they can find a way to resign DeAndre Jordan, then they have 2 excellent defensive centers to pair with Blake Griffin. Even though the Hornets might want to hold out for Eric Gordon, even without him in this deal, I don't see them getting a better deal anywhere in the league for Chris Paul. What do you think?

not bad IMO

I personally just want to see CP3 or D-Will pair up with Blake and Eric and be a crazy trio for some years. The Hornets are in a tough spot and there is no way you can get fair market value on the best PG in the league. Take as many young assets as you can and just start over. Monty Williams isn't a bad coach and he will get something from his players so I kind of like this trade idea from both sides

Interesting

CP3 and Eric Gordon in the backcourt with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan in the frontcourt - that would be an intriguing lineup. If Al-Farouq can develop, the Clippers can be a dangerous team with this starting five.

Yeah, the only problem I'd

Yeah, the only problem I'd see with this trade becoming a reality is the cheapness of Donald Sterling. Would he be willing to pay $12M/yr for Okafor (a fringe starter/good backup) as well as lock up DeAndre Jordan long-term? Would he be willing to go well over the cap with Trevor Ariza is he's only the 4th/5th best player on the team? He's only shown that committment to keeping a good team together once when he resigned Elton Brand, Corey Maggette, and traded for Sam Cassell. While that Clippers team was a short-lived success, this deal could put them into the West's elite for the next decade.

Plus, the benefits to the Hornets cannot be understated here. They'll get 4 (2 from the Clippers, 2 from the loaded 2012 draft) great prospects plus any other future draft picks, turn Okafor's contract into an expiring one, and turn Ariza's 3-year deal into a larger expiring contract the following year. Who can/will offer the Hornets a better deal? Even if they can get better talent back in a deal, would another trade honestly be able to clear off all their bad contracts and actually get them closer to a championship? I think not

Well, 4 months later and CP3

Well, 4 months later and CP3 is a Clipper. Not exactly the trade scenario I had envisioned, but hey, not too bad of a prediction if I do say so myself!

Johnson-Odom is listed at

Johnson-Odom is listed at just 6’2, but he comes from Marquette as an undersized two-guard. To say he’s “undersized” may be a misnomer as Johnson-Odom carries a hefty frame at 215 pounds.

“I watched a lot of tape of

“I watched a lot of tape of Houston and Kyle and (Goran) Dragic played a lot of minutes together and coexisted very well together, so that is something we are going to look at in training camp because (Lowry and Calderon) are two of our best players, not only our best point guards, but two of our best players. I think that it is up to us to make sure we know situations where we can put them on the court together.”

The backup power forward job

The backup power forward job has largely come down to two relatively equal but vastly different players in Ed Davis and Amir Johnson. While both could end up in the rotation, these two guys will be competing for minutes.

“JV will get his playing time

“JV will get his playing time because he deserves to be there, not because we are called to develop him,” Casey said. “We are going to throw him into the fire, not to give him experience, but because he can help us win. He is good enough to throw in the fire and learn on the job without saying we are putting him in there to develop. He is past that.”
