Would anyone with ESPN Insider access be willing to post Chad Ford’s latest mock draft on here?

I’m too cheap to invest in it, but I’ve been wondering for awhile what someone with an ear rather close to the ground on rumors/potential trades sees happening in a couple weeks time.

His latest is Mock Draft 6.0 and was posted June 2.

As a Celtics fan I think I’d rather stay put at 16 and 28 if the draft were to follow Chad Ford’s mock.  If we came out with Lyles and Wood with possibly Upshaw at 33 i think that’s a solid draft night.  I’d imagine to moving up into the mid-late lotto would require the 16th pick along with a young player or the 28th pick.  Unless it’s to pick one of the top talents that’s sliding I’m not sure that’s worth it.

What’s your opinion on moving up as the rumors are saying?

I think we 100% have to move up. Not that it’s necessary, just that its in our best interests and would be the best way to use our assets. If we can get pick #9 and get someone like Turner/Johnson/Oubre than I think that is worth #16 and #33 (People seem to forget how much value these early second round picks are). I wouldn’t trade up to that far if it cost us IT, Sully, or Bradley though unless the other team is sending back something else like the Rodney Hood and #12 for AB. That’s a trade that would def. interest me. The only way I tradae #16 and a player is for #6 strait up.

I personally hate this draft for the Celtics. The two things the Celtics really need is scoring and rim protection. I have little faith in Upshaw as a first contract guy, and would prefer the Celtics to try and draft someone with more potential than Lyles or Wood. Turner and Oubre are both oozing with potential, and I think the Celtics need to make a move to go for that homerun upside player.

If we play it safe, than I would like to draft Bobby Portis over Lyles, and wouldn’t mind getting Jerian Grant because he’s a solid pro who would fit into CBS’s system

That Utah trade would interest me although I’m not that high on Rodney Hood.  I do think trying to get a high potential player is worth the risk but I also think the team needs more talent all around.  I notice on your mock you have Myles Turner going 13th to the Suns.  If that’s the case then I agree trading 16 and 33 would be worth moving up to get him.  I just don’t want to move up into the middle of the lottery where you have to give up both first round picks unless Ainge is convinced the player will be great.

As for Upshaw I have little faith in him as well.  That’s why using either 33 or 45 on him would be the only picks I would use on him.  Giving him guarenteed 1st round money is not a good idea with his red flags.  I want to take a risk on him in the second round because the Celtics are drafting too low to pick up any of the top shot blockers or big men.

I’m sort of torn between trading up or standing pat which is why I want to hear what other Celtics fans are thinking about the draft.  I don’t know if we’ll make the playoffs next season with teams like Miami and Indiana coming back healthy with their lottery picks coming in as well.  So it seems we’ll either be drafting late lotto or mid-first round next year.  That would be why moving up would be worth it if we can get a high potential player.  Myles Turner feels like the perfect fit for the Celtics system while bringing shot blocking.  I just don’t know how much it would take to move up to get him.  He could go starting around the 8th pick and that would cost a lot to move up to.  I wasn’t a big fan of Oubre at Kansas but he is definitely oozing potential.  He could be an all star and a great two way player which is why I can see him going around the 10th pick or higher if he has strong workouts.  As long as trading up doesn’t involve giving up too much I’m all for the risk.

I would 100% take Rodney Hood in green, and was dissapointed that we actually turned that trade down. Hood after the ASG shot 46/42/81 and averaged 12/2/2 on a Jazz team that played really well. He has great size, and showed that he is a capable defender as well. At this point I doubt the Jazz would even do a Hood for AB trade strait up to be honest, so I have to disagree with you on that point.

I think we have to trade up because there is no way we are going to keep the 10+ picks we potentially can have in the next 3 years. Somethings got to give, so if you have to toss in #28 or #33 to get a player with more potential in the 10-14 range than you have to do it. Sure you could hope someone slips, but I just don’t trust Ainge to draft a player at #16 that will be a real game-changer.

If you look at the players Ainge likes to take or trade for (Smart, Bradley, Sully, Young, Olynyk, Zeller) these are all high IQ players who were great college guys or top ranked coming out of high school. Ainge looks past athleticism and size for the most part, and takes who he considers to be the best "pros". I think if we stay at 16 we’re going to be really disapointed if he takes someone like Sam Dekker or RHJ.

I really think if you go by Ainges above mentioned criteria than Turner is the best bet as he fits team needs, and is an articulate guy who was #2 coming out. Portis as well, but the players I really want the Celtics to get on draft night that are atleast reasonable to trade for would be Stanley Johnson and WCS for obvious reasons. I think you need to gamble on a player who has huge upside sooner rather than later, and I think those two guys would fill the needs of the team while providing that upside.

I also think the Celtics will make the playoffs as they will have a full year of IT, Zeller, and Crowder, and will have another year of muturity of Smart, Olynyk, Young, and Sully (who’s going to be playing for big money, expect a great year from him). Celtics should be 100% gunning for the PO’s because they have no incentive to lose, they just need to do better than the Nets who could get a lottery pick for us. Focus on winning, and use the assets we have to improve the talent of the team.

I read quite a few articles saying the Celtics are really keen on moving up in the draft. Rumor they have offered picks 16, 28 and a second rounder to Sacremento for the 6th overall pick. They could do the same to Denver and Detroit.

Ainge is keen on taking WCS.

You got me there with Hood.  I guess I kind of stopped following his progress after the first half of the season.  I think that trade with Utah is one that is worth doing.  As much as I like Avery as a defender his lack of size tends to hurt him.  Hood would be a down grade defensively but he makes his money with his shooting.  At the same time we would manage to move up in the draft to get a player like Turner.  However I do think more would be needed to convince Utah to making that trade.

I also agree that Ainge tends to be frustrating at times with his picks.  Fab Melo was cringeworthy the moment the pick was made.  Moving up to get Kelly Olynk when he talked about how much he liked Giannis when he saw him play in Greece.  I think you’re right that we need to make a push for a high potential player in the draft by moving up.  We have such a stockpile of draft picks that it’s worth making riskier picks than going for the safe pick.  Stanley Johnson, Oubre, WCS, Turner all come to mind as players that are worth moving 16 and 28 to get to.

Johnson is a player that fits in with the grit the team played with in the second half of the season.  WCS fills a need that Boston has been trying to fill for years now.  Getting him would give us a legit defensive anchor who will allow the guards to put pressure on the guards without worrying about giving up layups.  Although it seems like WCS will go higher than Johnson which would make it more difficult to trade up for him.

Johnson is a better shooting version of Crowder. They just have too much in common to trade up for Johnson, including their very low standing reach, like 8’4" or something.

I’d rather stay at 16 and hopefully land Dekker, who has like an 8’10" standing reach. At least it would give us some variety at SF.

And there are always guys who get drafted lower than anticipated. Always. One of the guys ranked above 16 is going to fall, and probably two or three of them. It could be Dekker, but it could also be Johnson, or Oubre.

Great mock and breakdown. Not to sure why he thinks Portis projects to be a good shot blocker though and I’m willing to bet the Lakers don’t pick Young 27th especially with Rozier on the board.
