valentineChad Ford has released his latest Mock Draft. I’m curious to hear thoughts.
Ive noticed Draft Express is the only main draft site that has Skal still at #1. I disagree, yet in all fairness Givony over there usually gets it right more than he gets it wrong and If you compare mocks to actual draft day results…he usually comes out on top.
I wrote a thread a few weeks ago saying Simmons is a clear #1 and it isnt even close….and the response was about 50% Simmons, 50% Skal.
I’d like to know if people are still on the Skal bandwagon?
Any other thoughts on Fords mock are welcome. Which site do you believe gets it right most often?
P.S. those that ridiculed me for comparing Simmons to Lebron and Magic over 12 mths ago…are you still comparing him to Lamar Odom?
P.P.S. -1 for the first person to make a lame wise-crack about Ford changing his mocks retrospectively. This isn’t a Ford diss thread.

whiteflashParticipantI agree completely. Not sure I’ve ever seen a big guy who has touch like that also be that stiff and robotic. He’s like Nowitzki had a baby with Bo Outlaw. The way the game’s going now though he can have a mediocre freshman year and still get drafted top 5-10 based on "potential". Can’t wait ’til the league adopts a mandatory "three years removed from high school" rule. The game will be so much better all across the board.

First of all it will never happened for a number of reasons(NBPA won’t allow it,you basically kill the NCAA because players will go overseas),and secondly,it’s absolutly wrong according to a number of studies.

providencefriars1ParticipantI thought I had Malik Pope too high at 14, but Ford has him at 6. This is the point in the year where you can defend these hot takes, but I think he will fall to late teens early 20’s by the end of the year.
He also had around 14 freshman in the first round, which is setting him up for failure because a lot of the guys especially some of the bigs will take longer to develop and need multiple years in school.

Chilbert arenasParticipantThe Lamar Odom comparison is the one I like the best but Lamar was much bigger and overall more talented.
Side note: Lamar came through the club I work at in Santa Monica last night

Rip255When you say Lamar was bigger…are you comparing 18yo Simmons to 18yo Odom or 30yo Odom.
Both are around 6’10" with medium to large builds. Seems a strange thing to say.
As for talent level, Lamar Odom was never an All Star. It never seemed like he was in consideration.
Lamar Odom is probably a good guy to hit the clubs with tho…I’ll give him that.

WinterSoldierParticipantIf Lamar Odom is a better version of Simmons then he shouldn’t even be considered for the 1st pick.

JordanC20ParticipantJamal Murray will be the # 1 draft pick if not he’ll certainly jump into the top 3 at least.

Rip255Simmons stat line against pros in a pre season game tonight…Probably going to be close to his College averaged…
22pts
10 rebs
4 ast
3blk
2 stl
Was clearly the best player on court but Antonio Blakeney was balling too.

llperezodom won parade national player of the year his senior of highschool and put up 18ppg…9rpg…4apg as a freshman in college then after 1 year of college he put up 17…8…4 as a rookie in the nba. He also should have made the the 2004 all-star game over kenyon martin. He had all the skills you could ask for but just not the mentality. Ive seen ben simmons, i think he compares very much with odom at the same age. Hopefully simmons has more drive to be great but saying more skilled then odom? Not from what ive seen.

SubZeroParticipantPeople forget how much talent Lamar Odom had because of the way his career ended. I don’t think it’s a diss at all to say that he’s comparable to Odom at the same age

Rip255Its either a diss to Simmons or unwarranted love for Odom because the difference in talent is significant.
Its comparing a 0 time all-star to a future 10+ time All Star.
If Odom was so talented…how come no All Star appearances and career averages of 13 & 8.
He had decent all-around game…but whatever he did…Simmons does significantly better.
If Odom averaged 13, 8, 4….Simmons will get you 23, 10 & 6…and theyre conservative averages.

llperezwe dont have any idea of what simmons will eventually do. Those same things you are saying about simmons, everybody and their mother thought the same way about odom coming out of highschool. The question for odom was never skill/talent, it was mental toughness. And since this conversation is about skill/talent, they are very comparable. Odom still played near an all-star level for many seasons and was a key contributor on two championship teams often finishing games. Since you want to go by stats, then simmons should crush the 18/9/4 his freshman season that odom put up right? Then he should crush the 17/8/4 his rookie year that odom put up his rookie year right?

providencefriars1ParticipantYou are projecting 23 10 and 6? That’s like top 5 player in the NBA numbers
0- Posted on: Sun, 08/16/2015 - 12:56pm #1007886
Rip255Thats what I think.
Future MVP contender.
Jay Bilas says he’s better than Wiggins…and most people would project Wiggins to be at least top 10 right?
And he’s the #1 on all the draft boards.
So why not make a bold prediction? If I’m wrong….it wouldn’t be the first time.

whiteflashParticipantExactly. Odom was the #1 prospect in a class with Tracy McGrady and Baron Davis. Slam magazine dubbed him "The New Magic" on their cover. People were thinking Odom was gonna be a pg in the league….. I could go on. Odom had major game, he just never put in the effort/work to be great. Simmons seems like he has the drive to be as good as he possibly can, but only time will tell.
