k-MileusParticipantCeltics trade: Rondo Powe and Davis
Grizzles trade: the 2nd pick and Jaric w/ Warrick.Source from SI said that the Celtics are looking to trade into the top 5 and i think this trade is enough to move them up. The celtics would draft Rubio to be their new point guard.
I dont know exactly if the celtics should do this, but the Celtics were upset with Rondo at some points in the season. They were disappointed with his attitudes. Overall this is a very interesting trade to look at.

jmr2121ParticipantYour post was a complete waste. Rondo is untouchable, if I were the grizzlies I wold take this trade 100 million times repeated…thats how one-sided this deal is.

tli232OK… Rondo is already a top 5 PG in the league even without a jumpshot. The guy is young too, meaning it’s likely that he’ll develop further. Why would Boston trade a sure thing for someone whose ceiling isn’t that much higher than Rondo’s, if at all, and will take a few years to reach that potential, if he does at all. Boston isn’t getting any younger with he BIG THREE. They need to win NOW, not 3-4 years later when Rubio will play at Rondo level (if Rondo doesn’t develop further). This is a bad idea man. Doesn’t make any sense. Thumbs down for sure.

auberParticipantBoston isn’t jumping up to number 2. Give me a Break.

Tim49461ParticipantUnfortunately this has some truth to it….Espn was reporting the samething….saying they want in the top 5. Idk if it is for Rubio or what but he is somewhat right

MelParticipantAt this point, I think Rondo stays. The playoffs did wonders for his career. Now he’s top 5? I guess I cant argue much on that one but would he be that good on another team without two hall-of-famers at the wings? IDK

HaleParticipantThe funny thing is although the trade is extremely stupid, it is not made up. Boston, Houston and one other team are all trying to trade up and get Rubio. I’ll try and find the article.

MachiavelliParticipantAre you kidding?
If Boston were trading, it wouldnt be Rondo and they wouldnt be drafting Rubio… They probably will draft the Arizona state kid. Waaaay more impressive and an athletic wing like the needs say.0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 8:52am #159914
ghostfaceParticipantWhy would Boston trade Rondo to move up and take Rubio? That makes absolutely no sense. Rondo is in his early twenties and continues to get better. From what I’ve read from these draft sites, Rubio is not very athletic, does not have great speed, is not a good defender, and is not a good shooter. Rondo is very athletic, a great defender, very quick, and even rebounds well for a guard. Ok, so neither Rondo or Rubio are great shooters. So really the only advantage Rubio may have is that he is a flashier passer. Boston is going to make this move because Rubio is a flashy passer? Obviously, Memphis would make this trade in a heartbeat.

Tha_tight1ParticipantSince When Has rondo been a top 5 pg???? Yea he played good in the Finals but there are 5 better point guards if not more
Chris Paul
Jason Kidd
Deron Williams
Gilbert Arenas
Baron Davis/ Chancey Billiupsand if Boston Is trying to move up they want a big man Thabet

fliptonnParticipanti agree, they dont need another outside threat even though i have heard rumors of them potentially trading tony allen. thabeet would be a good pick because he could give them a big presence down low for shot blocking and rebounding. Kevin Garnett can block and rebound but thabeet is big and big means shot altering. they would probably have to trade allen and powe or potentially perkins in order to get that high of a pick though. Im sure Minnisota, Memphis, or OKC would at least be interested though

HueBoND 2001ParticipantIf we was on a mediocre team he would at best be Raymond felton who i think is better than rondo. Take away the cast he is good but com on now….TOP 5 lets slow down.

tkd720manParticipantIf the Celtics are involved in any way whatsoever, it is almost certainly as a third team and only involves the exchange of contracts and some role players.
Consider their window of opportunity and consider the talent they already have. Besides Griffin, nobody in the top 5 of the draft is ready to step in and produce next season at the level the Celtics need. Why would they blow their team up when they’re one healthy knee away from contending for another championship? They’re not gonna do it.

Lodzio20ParticipantRubio sucks and he never will be good like Rondo!!
0 - Posted on: Wed, 06/10/2009 - 10:40am #159842
realtalk_901Participantthe stupid thing about this trade is that everyone is trying to trade Memphis restricted free agents for the number 2 (davis and powe). restricted free agents are complicated to trade in the draft and would have to be sent later when they are signed during free agency. i also think memphis wouldnt be interested in powe cause powe blew out his knee in the season. Memphis can get much more for the number two than someone that they can sign during free agency. people quit posting the dumb trades if it dont look true then dont post it.

maravich44ParticipantIf Celtics make a deal to move up it won’t be for Rubio. He is a hotdog, not a fundamentally sound point guard. Celtics won’t turn into a hot dog team. If they trade up it will be for Thabeet whose defensive presence with Garnett would be unbelievable. I’ve heard rumors and despite them and Rondo’s shortcomings, he isn’t going anywhere. Not sure what Celts would give up to move up, but it won’t be for Rubio.
