With Rondo out, as well as any title chances this year, do you think Ainge deals Pierce and Garnet to begin the rebuilding process? If so, what are some potential trades you see that’ll bring back some good pieces?

Obviously, this whole Rondo thing sucks, but it could potentially be a blessing in disguise. It basically gives Ainge the permission to blow the team up, because there title chances are officially over in the Big 3 era. If he does decide to trade Pierce and Garnett, I would expect he is looking for youth/picks/expiring contracts back. I’m sure he is looking towards lottery picks this year, and higher ones next year in a loaded class, and a pretty good free agency crop. Also, Rondo’s game, fortunately enough, is not dependent upon freakish athleticism, unlike D Rose. His game will definitely be affected, but not to the point that many are expecting.

With Rondo healthy they had no chance at a title and considering he’s their best player I’d say no, no title chances this year. Ainge is not going to get much in return for Pierce and Garnett and it would not sit well with the Celtic faithful. ‘Rondo was their best trade asset. Big time free agents don’t seem to go to Boston so I don’t see them being contenders anytime soon.

This was a sub .500 fringe playoff team with Rondo, without him they’ll be lucky to hold on to the 8 seed. Maybe this will open the door for them to blow the thing up, which is the smart move anyway.

Boston has a pair of 26-year olds in Rondo and Jeff Green, a pair of 22- year olds in Avery Bradley and Fab Melo, a pair of 27-year olds in Courtney Lee and Brandon Bass, and a 20-year old Jared Sullinger. What good is dealing Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and/or Jason Terry if they cannot get back better young players than they already have (and the struggles to adjust/injuries of that young collection is largely the reason Boston has a less than impressive record). Rondo will be back, and it is better for the young players who will surround him in the years to come to learn how to play in a winning situation than bomb out and think Nerlens Noel or Archie Goodwin is going to greatly change their long-term outlook. It won’t be hard for them to find a capable point guard on the trade or waiver market.

I really feel sorry for the Celtics and especially for Rondo. I love the way he plays and imo he’s the best defensive pg in the league let alone the best passing pg.

After all the rumours involving anyone on the celtics I’m at least happy that Rondo will remain a Celtic. I simply can’t picture him in another jersey and still belive he could be the best Celtics pg of all time. on the other hand I highly doublt Ainge will trade PP unless he damands a trade which I higly doubt too. Pierce is and was the face of this franchise for the last 15 years and still averaging decent numbers on this team. If there’s something like loyalty in this league the celtice should keep him.

If they need to blow up this team what they should now, they should trade Terry, Bass, Melo, Green, Bradley or Lee. All of this guys aren’t exactly homeruns for other teams but with trading Pierce they won’t land one too.

At best I could see the Celtics trading Garnett who is still producing even with his incredible mileage. If they are looking to to clean up cap space for the summer while adding talent theys should trade Garnett, Terry, Bass or Green. Lee is playing okay for his 5 mil salary and Garnett alone should bring in 2 first rounders alone and an expiring contract but trading Pierce would really break my heard unless he asks for a trade.

I just realised Rondo had the ACL injury in the game in Atlanta on Friday.
Rondo played almost 45 mins and having his 5th tripple double of the season with 16/10/11. This guy is flat out awesome and a true warrior. I still remember his comeback after dislocating his elbow against the Heat and coming back playing right handed only leading the Celtics to the win!

BTW, it was D-Wade Rondo got tangled up after the latest altercations with Wade beeing a dirty player but this was just a freak injury.

Look at Pierce after he was told Rondo is out with a torn ACL. You can clearly see that they have lost their heart and sould with Rondo and that he knew things are going to be shaken up.

I think due to loyalty Pierce retires in a celtics uniform. Trading Garnett to a contender would benefit both him and the Celtics to rebuild.

Contending teams that want to win now:

OKC have Collison, Thabeet, Ibaka and Perkins up front, none of whom are great scorers. Garnett would help them. They have PJ3 and Lamb playing D-League or only a few NBA mins a night, plus a lotto pick this draft. Having 3 players not getting minutes is absolutely pointless.

Brooklyn – Marshon Brooks. Brooks is a great scorer who is only getting 11 mins a night. A starting lineup of Williams, JJ, Wallace, Garnett and Lopez is pretty impressive.

Denver have a deep bench. Jordan Hamilton, Evan Fournier, Quincy Miller and Mozgof are all young and are hardly being used. Starting Lawson, Iggy, Gallinari, Garnett, Koufas/McGee with Faried coming off the bench for hustle and rebounding would be interesting…

If Ainge was to deal Garnet, I like both Brooklyn and Denver as trade partners. Brooks alongside Rondo is a nice combination. I like Bradley, but I think he’s too small to depend on, and I like him as a spark off the bench. Denver has plenty of pieces to entice Boston for Garnet, and Garnet will bring much needed post scoring for this years playoff run. He’ll be a great influence to Denver’s young bigs as well.

Without their star guard, it will be hard for Boston to salvage an already disappointing year. At 21-23, they sit seven games behind the New York Knicks in the Atlantic Division. They currently hold the last playoff spot in the conference.

The injury could force the Celtics to start building for the future. Boston has a talented roster, but an aging one as well. If the Celtics can’t compete for a title this year, team president Danny Ainge may decide to trade some of their most valuable assets.

According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett could be on their way out of Boston.

Pierce is the most likely Celtic to be traded. Even before Rondo’s injury, there were rumors that he could be moved before the deadline. He’s only guaranteed to make $4 million next season, making him one of the most valuable assets on the market.

Berger reports that the Memphis Grizzlies are a possible landing spot for Pierce. A potential deal would likely involve a swap of Pierce for Rudy Gay. Both players are big scorers and would be able to help their new teams.

Memphis would be getting the better player in the deal. Pierce will likely be a Hall of Famer, averaging just less than 22 points per game for his career. At 35 year’s old, he’s still averaging 18.7 points per contest. Pierce’s short term contract would also help the Grizzlies achieve their goal of lowering their payroll.

Boston wouldn’t lose much with Gay’s 17 points per game. The small forward is nine years younger than Pierce, and could be a big part of the Celtics future.

While Pierce could be on his way to the Western Conference, the Celtics could send Garnett to a team in their own division. Berger suggested that the Brooklyn Nets might be a potential suitor for the 36-year-old.

Garnett is in the midst of his 18th NBA season, but remains one of the most productive big men in the league. His 15 points and 7.3 rebounds per game earned him a starting spot in the All-Star Game.

At 36 years old, Garnett isn’t nearly as valuable on a team that might not even make the postseason. His experience could help a Nets team that is looking to challenge the Heat for the top spot in the East. Trading Garnett to Brooklyn could land Boston a few first-round draft picks and possibly Kris Humphries.

The Celtics core was formed in 2007 when they traded for both Garnett and Ray Allen. The group made two NBA Finals appearances and gave Celtics fans their first championship since 1986.

I also read an article suggesting Pierce for Harrison Barnes. Its just a suggestion, but would be win-win for both teams as GS are making a strong run into the playoffs….
