As a Cavs fan I don't know what else they have planned for free agency or trades they may make before the season starts. It starts with all the big guys we have. We have Bennett, Clark, Thompson, Zeller, Varejao, and now Bynum. I hear they are going to try Clark at SF, But there is still one more of these guys that we could trade for more of a pure SG. I was thinking a veteran like Afflalo. With Varejao expected to make over 9 million I think we can get a better wing for less than that. I like Felix but he is nowhere ready and has a lot to improve offensively. I don't think Waiters is the SG of the future, he doesn't stretch the floor and takes a lot of bad shots. Waiters was fitted as a 6th man but now they got Jack on contract. Sg's I would like are guys like Terrence Ross or Jeremy Lamb if they could pull something off. What do you guys think they should do with their flexibility before the season starts or before trade deadline?
Right now their lineup looks like this:
1st team: Irving, Waiters, Clark, Thompson, Bynum
2nd team: Jack, Miles, Gee/ Karasev, Bennett, Varejao
Rest: Felix, Zeller, Walton, Quin, Jones.
If we could just get a SG to stretch the floor and play defense I think it makes the Cavs into a much better team. For EXAPMLE could you picture Irving, Afflalo, Clark, Thompson, Bynum? I think it would work much better. Thoughts or similar ideas? Thank you.
I don't understand why your giving up on Waiters this early. Hes not a great shooter but hes solid enough that teams have to respect his shot and him being on the floor with Irving never really caused spacing problems. Also we have CJ Miles and drafted Karasev who is supposedly a great shooter. I think adding a starting caliber SF is a much more pressing need.
What makes you think Ross or Lamb are available?
Im not totally giving up on Waiters I just think they need better floor spacing with they players they currently have in the starting lineup. His 1-11 display yesterday didn't help either. I didn't say they were available but a player with their skillset would be better next to Irving imo.
I think having a guy in Waiters who can create for himself as wells as others is more benificial to Irving than pairing him with another spot up shooter because it allows him a little on court rest and to play off ball in short stints which he excells at.
I hope we go into the season as is. Mike Brown said during yesterdays SL game that Clark can guard 2 through 5 for him. I think Clark and Bennett are a great combo, Bennett can play the weaker offensive player and Clark can guard the better 3/4. On offense they stretch whoever the slower defender is and pound whoever has the weaker guy.
Why do we need a small forward, just yet? Let's see how the first 25 games play out and then make a metric decision after, based on what line up works and what doesn't. Screw getting a 3, teams are asking to much. I mean the number 1 pick for Deng, f that. If we are in the chase and relatively healthy (Irving) and are like 24-24, .500, then trade a top 10 protected 2014 pick for Thad Young or Wilson Chandler once Gallinari comes back.
