What do you think of the recent 3 point shooting binge he’s been on lately? 13 attempts for him today…

He’s getting a lot more open looks and you know when Melo starts feelin it the ball is going up, some of them are just absurd but other than that his scoring has been so effecient since joining New York I think we’re gonna see a top 3 player from here on out, his defense is better, rebounding at a large clip, passing the ball and cutting down turnovers he’s becoming a complete player and I put that on 1. D’Antoni, 2. Amar’e and 3. Being where he wants to be and truly wanting to win a championship for the city of New York

Good points. He’s going to have to play like a top three player from here on out, it’s looking like they got Boston in Rd. 1.

I noticed he’s been taking alot of threes with the Knicks. The guy never had more than 69 3-pointers in a season before this year and he’s already converted 52 in just 26 games with NY. If he becomes consistant with his newfound 3-point range then he becomes an even more dangerous scorer if that’s at all possible.

Boston is their potential 1st round opponent

    Melo’s predicted stats

    29ppg, 9ppg, 4apg, 2 stocks(stls and blks), 48%-40%-85% in 39mpg

we win next two games and atl loses thereswe would be tied for 5th seed. i dont know how tie breakers work aftter head2head matchups but thts a nicee acomplishment for the knicks. melo has been on fire as of late. if he and amare play at a high level i wouldnt be suprised if we won  against boston. it should be very competitive series

Strange that Melo should suddenly start upping his 3 point range but with Billups having been out for a few games and STAT now out then it figures that Coach D’Antoni will have to look to Melo to take more shots and taking some 3 pointers probably gives him better shooting options under D’Antoni’s offence.

D’Antonio’s offense opens up and encourages more three pointers. Probably Melo has been told to take more threes his entire career. He really takes far too many long twos. Why not step back four feet and give your self a chance at 50% more points?

I think Melo has a chance to go on a tear at any moment. He typically doesn’t. What you see is what you get high volume scorer that needs a lot of shots and who plays only average or below average defense. But every now and then the shots fall and he becomes "league leading scorer" guy. We might see that guy in the playoffs. I’m certainly looking forward to a match up with Boston because they don’t look so good after the Perkins trade. And frankly they have to get old eventually. I’d also like to somehow see the Knicks play Orlando because the thought of Turkolo, JJ Redick or Ryan Anderson having to guard Melo is funny (yes, none of those would be the full time matchup, but those guys get plenty of run and they would end up on Melo sometimes during the course of a series).

Melo always takes a lot of shots and even though his shooting percentage sometimes isn’t great he’ll score loads of points. The AI situation didn’t work out so now he’s looking to gel successfully with STAT in NY. With STAT being able to drop 25ppg on a regular basis, Melo should not have the scoring burden on his shoulders and the D’Antoni system will help his scoring.

Developing a better 3 point range will be a useful tool for him and down the stretch in games could be a vital difference maker in tight games. As Melo’s game matures he’ll surely improve his shot selection as he will not be able to rely on just his athleticism as his career progresses and he’ll use his experience and basketball IQ to see shots and consider options.
