I was googling for some hype on the upcoming UK-KU showdown and I got slammed with hits that Carlton Bragg has been suspended for a "violation of team rules".  This comes after a short suspension earlier in the season for getting in a drunk argument/altercation with an agry girlfriend.  Apparently Bragg was found to be "innocent" of criminal charges at that time.

Now, again he is suspended and in his statement to the press, Bill Self has stated that the suspension has nothing to do with the "alleged" incident on Dec 17th.  Huh?  What "incident" on Dec 17th?  It turns out that Kansas University has been sitting on a sexual assault investigation based on allegations against Bragg that he sexually assaulted a 16 year-old girl in the athletic dorm with 5 teammates as "witnesses" including star player Josh Jackson.

This is confusing.  So Bragg gets suspended for what no one knows, and the suspension coincides with media breaking the story that there was an alleged sexual assault by Bragg on a 16 year-old on Dec 17th, but the suspension has nothing to do with that  investigation?  OK…

What is the deal with Carlton Bragg anyway?  He was a McD all-american, and was a serious NBA first/second round prospect for a while.  Now he’s been suspended twice in one seaosn, and this latest one is "indefinite", AND he is being investigated for sexually assaulting a 16 year-old?  Does no one keep tabs on these kids at KU?  Both the first incident, and the alleged sexual assault occurred in the athletic dorm with 5 teammates as "witnesses".  Do teammates look out for each other at KU?  Do coaches and assistants know even what is going on in the dorm?  What’s the organizational culture like there?  One would think that there would be a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol/violence etc.  Is this a case of protecting a star athlete at the expense of the program’s reputation?  Or is this just an immature, entitled, athlete making the great KU look bad?

If this were at Kentucky, people would be talking about how big of a scumbag Calipari is and how he’s the dirtiest coach ever. I don’t know if the allegations are true or not, but I have a feeling we don’t know the half of what goes on at most schools

The McCarthy Hall situation did not involve any KU players that hammer wouldve came down real quick.. The Players were witnesses to it and I would assume had some involvement to a degree.. To my Knowledge no players were part of the alledged sexual assualt outside of being close to it happening

The Investigation led to Carlton Bragg a repeat offender getting caught up on something completely seperate from this sexual assault case.. Bill Self has been frustrated with him all year and is attempting to remind this kid his opportunity is a privilege

Bragg is not being investigated for the rape of the 16 year old. No KU player is. There are more students in McCarthy Hall than just basketball players. The suspension is for drug paraphernalia found in McCarthy Hall during the police investigation. These findings were unknown to the coaching staff as police had not come forward with details on the investigation into recently and because it was an ongoing investigation KU could not comment on the situation. Now how Self didn’t find out from his own players about what happened I do not know.

Also drugs and alcohol happen at all colleges and athletes are not separate from this. I guess from what people close to KU have said is Bragg hangs out with groups of people separate from the majority of the team. These people are not good influences at all. I guess Self separated Josh Jackson from Bragg (they were roommates in the beginning) because of the bad influences in Bragg’s life.

I’m guessing Bragg will have till the end of the season to get his act together. If he can’t he’ll transfer or he’ll mysteriously go pro similar to Brannen Greene last year.

CORRECTION TO MY ORIGINAL POST ABOVE:

After reading some more about Bragg’s recent troubles, it appears that I was absolutely incorrect when I wrote that Bragg was being investigated for alleged sexual assault.  I was completely incorrect, and I want to formally retract that statement above.  If I could edit/delete it I would.

Furthermore Bragg was found to be innocent of assault charges earlier in the season.  Video of that alleged incident exonerated Bragg.

So really, it seems that Bragg is in the dog house with Self for some sort of team rules violation but that is all.

So just to be clear, I was completely incorrect to post that Bragg was being investigated for sexual assault.  I regret posting that, and hopefully this post serves to neutralize any negativity toward Bragg that my original, incorrect, post may have stirred up.
