    Using the leaked CBA pdf:

The minimum salary for a team is 85% of the salary cap this year, which will be the same as the last season ($58 million), which comes to $49.3 million. The Kings current salary $29.9 million. Assuming they use their amnesty clause on either Francisco Garcia or John Salmons, renounce the rights to Darnell Jackson, sign Jimmer to his $1.85 million rookie contract as under the assumed new (leaked) CBA, and keep the cap hold on Marcus Thornton the Kings will end up with a salary anywhere from $24.75 million to $28 million. This means they will have to spend anywhere from $21.3 million to $24.5 million just to get within the allotted salary space, and gives them as much as $33 million to spend without going over cap.

Obviously, Thornton could take up a sizable portion of that gap with a new contract but whom else should the Kings target to fill that void? Their largest needs are in the post and to have a descent starter at the SF position.

    This is their lineup currently:

    PG: Jimmer, Isaiah Thomas
    SG: Tyreke, Thornton
SF: Garcia or Salmons, Donte Greene, Tyler Honeycutt
    PF: Jason Thompson, JJ Hickson
    C: Cousins, Whiteside

Why would they use their Amnesty if they are already under the cap? The Maloof Brother’s housing construction business is in the toilet, I don’t think they have any interest in pushing forward their payments of Garcia or Salomons salaries.

Regardless of if they decide to cut either of them using their Amnesty clause they will still have 8-12 million to spend, after you factor in either of them and Thornton, just to get over the minimum. That is if they do not use the clause.

On whether or not they will use the clause, I cannot comment on their business rational without consulting them at least once, which is not happening anytime soon.

Amnesty really seems like an expensive solution to a problem. I think guys like Eddie Curry would be the type you amnesty. If a guy can still ball well enough to be a backup (say 8th to 10th man), then I think you aren’t going to use the Amnesty. The exception to that might be a team like the Lakers or Knicks which is rolling in cash and has a window for championship contention.

There is no reason for Sacramento to amnesty Garcia or Salmons. They aren’t going anywhere this year. They will have a ton of money to spend next summer, and it is possible (300 to 1 longshot possible) that their ownership might be thinking about getting into the Dwight bidding if they move to Anaheim. They are going to spend the minimum allowed under the new CBA, and contracts like Salmons and Garcia will help them get there. Plus, they are good enough players to help them get through the year without trotting out Donte Greene.

retain Dalembert if they can.  They have no viable center right.  Whiteside needs alot of work and Cousins plays more like a PF.  They also messed up by trading Beno because now they don’t have a point guard.  Putting poor Jimmer at point in his rookie season will not work out.  Salmons was an ok pickup but there is already too many ball dominant players on this team.  I’m guessing they are hoping on the next draft to pickup a promising SF.  Basically, any veteran player for any position will help the Kings.

But he may want to go to a Contender, They have enough money to make a Huge offer at Nene/Gasol or Tyson Chandler at Center but I think they have Cousins and a high pick in this draft to solve that issue(Drafting Andre Drummond is very possible)…The smart move may be to sign Jeff Green to an 5year/40 million dollar deal @ 8 million per season…they’d still be under the cap next year if they ever decide to use the Amnsety clause and have a Core of Evans/Cousins/Jeff Green/Jimmer/Marcus Thorton and JJ Hickson, to mention a high pick in the draft…they could be a player in Free Agency next summer(They’re not getting Howard though, a pg would likely be their target)

They mostly need to help paul westphal handling evans and cousins in the same locker room… and in shape.

This roster could be fun to watch if everybody was deciding to play as a team at both sides of the court.
