delfamParticipantBased on what happened with Chris Paul, it seemed like the trade got vetoed cause the new CBA that was just ratified was put in place to give small market teams a chance to keep their own stars.
If now the league say lets Howard get traded to the Nets, a big market team in Brooklyn, would this then be hypocricy considering they vetoed the Paul trade?

JunkYardDogParticipantthe league vetoed cp3’s trade cause the league is the owner of NOH and so has the right to…
But the nba doesn’t have the right to do so in a deal without the hornets. The league can just pay attention of the contacts d12 and some owners had whereas they didn’t have the right to.

TallmanNYCParticipantI don’t believe Stern and the league officials vetoed the trade based in their role as owner of the NOH but in their role as running the league. So I think they could veto a trade that they view as imbalanced or somehow improper. It just happens that the league as never done something like this before and this trade wasn’t that imbalanced. I’m actually coming more to the conclusion that this was for personal reasons as a way to get back at CP3 for his role in organizing the players to holdout in the lockout. This may force CP3 to play out his season at NOH. While everyone focuses on the fact that NOH won’t get anything in return when CP3 leaves, they aren’t focusing on the fact that CP3 will not be able to sign with a new team under the Larry Bird exception. I believe that means he will be limited to a 4 year contract with smaller pay raises than if he resigned with someone this year. This will cost Paul millions over those four years and, if his knees give out in the next few years, it will cost him $20 million by not having that fifth year guaranteed. So this is possibly a big $30 million F-U to Paul.
The message to the players, if you want to pick where you play, you are going to pay for that right.

JunkYardDogParticipantwhatever were the real or hidden reasons of that decision….they did it cause they had the right to.
for d12 they won’t cause they don’t have the right to (I think but I’m not a lawyer).
