WizardofOzParticipantI’m not a Nets fan, but I want to ask you a question memphis tyga23.
Are you happy that the Nets will probably do this trade and are you okay with the assets that they are giving up? I’m asking you this question because many other people said that they shouldn’t give up Favors and Harris to get Carmelo. I’m okay with the trade but I just wanted to hear a Nets fan’s opinion.
And I don’t think I know any other Nets fans on this site.

sheltwon3ParticipantIf New Jersey gets Melo on this trade, my homie will be pissed. Hopefully Melo balks about going because really NJ would have Brook and Williams and that is it along with Melo. They could probably make the playoffs with that line up but still. New York needs to do whatever they can money wise to entice those same teams to help them get a deal done.

sheltwon3ParticipantNets don’t lose much because they wanted to move Harris and Favors is not ready as of yet and next year, NJ can possibly pick up a nice power forward.

Lotto StudParticipantTo be honest with you I don’t like what we’re going to give up for him. It’s NOT a guarantee he signs an extension with us. I can see us giving up Harris, he was due for a trade all along. Boy ol’ Boy!!!!! I would have loved to see Favors grow as a player with us, he is very skilled to be so young. I see us improving as far as wins, but this trade does not help us out as a long term project, unless we get KEY pieces early on. I still say we’re going to be SHOOTING for Irving or Knight, because Farmar is not the answer. Farmar can’t lead a team to the playoffs IMO, so PG will be a glaring need for us if we want to keep Melo.

Mr. JewboyParticipanti may be wrong, but i dont see carmelo as much of a leader and his team has always had another leader-andre miller, iverson, marcus camby and billups..so it should be interesting to see him on a new and rebiulding team-especially when he wants to win right now
do you guys think he becomes a leader this year?

NJHooper95ParticipantThe nets are making a bad move. They are giving up too much. Favors has tremendous potential, harris is a good pg, and then are giving away golden state’s first round pick, which is sure to be in the lottery. They nets would be better off playing out the season with their current roster and see if they get lucky enough to land a top 3 pick from golden state. You then have the option of drafting Harrison Barnes, Perry Jones, or Kyrie Irving. You now has a team that can complete for years to come. If you land Barnes or Jones you have your small forward. If you land Irving, you can trade harris for a future draft pick or some good role players for depth.

It’s top 7 protected so they wouldn’t be getting the pick.

knicks82ParticipantIm a huge Cuse fan, and loved Melo when he was there for a year, but I always associate him with the likes of Dominque Wilkins and Charles Barkley.. great players, but dont quite have the champion pedigree to do it in the NBA. And Melo plays no D. I know alot of Knicks fans who want Melo, but me personally Id rather stick with what we have and see what happens next summer. As for the 2 Nets fans in the world…congrats if you get him!

NJHooper95ParticipantA top 10 pick is not bad, and you can add depth. Carmelo is the truth but im a little skeptical about him and this whole approach. Its a little Lebronish. Im really afraid for the nets to let Favors go, i think he can be really special. A dynamic front court can go a long way in this league. You dnt need a great point guard if you got great big men. Just look at Avery Johnson and Tim Duncan and David Robinson. Oh yeah and Terrence Williams will have a breakout season with the Nets

Lotto StudParticipantI’ll accept that coming from a Knicks fan, you sound sincere when you said congrats LOLZ.

Rising RookieParticipantI have been a die hard Nets fan since I was little, and I really think this is going to benfit them. Everyone knew Harris was going to be shipped off sooner or later. The day we acquired him he had issues with Richard Jefferson, then we tried shipping him to Indy for Granger and that fell through, so his departure was expected. Favors, as good as he is and can be, is only a rookie and no potential is guaranteed. The main thing now is that our lineup looks like this:
PG: Farmar 6-2
SG: Williams 6-6
SF: Anthony 6-8
PF: Murphy 6-11
C: Lopez 7-0
All that height will help us against teams like Boston and LA, plus Anthony can guard guys like Kobe.

thenetswillriseParticipantThere are so many variables that will be in play if this trade goes down, both good and bad. Best case scenario, Farmar is much better than anybody expected, Anthony learns how to play defense (in regards to the comment above, Anthony COULD TECHNICALLY guard Kobe, but I wouldn’t expect him to hold him under 25ppg), Lopez and TWill break out like many expect/hope, and outlaw becomes a great sixth man. Nets get to the postseason or if not, get a mid to low lottery pick. There are a few options in the ’11 draft for PF so who knows what might happen.
More likely, farmar will be decent but not great, Twill has growing pains, Lopez does very well, and anthony almost leads the league in scoring. Problem will be that the Nets will also be near the bottom of the league in points allowed (Murphy and Lopez combo will get killed by any athletic front court), leading the Little General to become the Little Black Psycho Stalin – is that too extreme?- thus clashing with anthony and likely Twill.
Can’t say I like this deal much unless we get a top 3 pick in next years draft, allowing us to draft Kyrie Irving. If the trade falls through and favors doestn’t develop as much as possible (I see his basement as being a great defender who gets plenty of garbage buckets, David lee style). I’m ok with that because this team will be more intriguing to watch in its current state anyway. Melo is a great player but not a leader, which is what we really need. Let the kids grow together and become a close unit. Plus, retaining draft picks will help to continue the stockpiling of talent.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Has Melo played any defence his entire career?

butidonthavemoneyOhCanada, speaking the harsh truth.
The real question is…
Does this trade make New Jersey a playoff team?
I am skeptical.

bobbybParticipantNets fan everyone should know because i am always getting negative for defending them, they MUST do this trade .
0 - Posted on: Sat, 09/25/2010 - 7:29am #406112
billykParticipantMelo is a decent defender, very few players can score alot of points and play defense at a high level.. Jordan and Kobe where the only players to actually average more than 25ppg and play all NBA type of defense.. IMO the Heat (barring injury) is about to shut the league down…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 09/25/2010 - 7:46am #406119
Mr.Knick 32ParticipantYou know what: Who’s the best defender in the Nets’ potential starting lineup?
Farmar-Morrow-Melo-Murphy-Lopez?
That’s a bad defensive team to me…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 09/25/2010 - 8:21am #406130
andxxxParticipantI think Nets fans have nothing to worry about especially if you guys get DJ augustin. Troy Murphy, Brook Lopez and Jordan Farmar are all pretty good players. It also helps to have a player like Travis Outlaw as a backup too. The player I think could put u guys over the top is T-will the guy has so much versatility and can play the point at spots, he is able to play defense on multiple positions as well, he’s going to be a huge X factor for you guys
0 - Posted on: Sat, 09/25/2010 - 8:23am #406132
billykParticipantMaybe individually they may not be good defenders but there is no reason without a good defensive coach they cant play good TEAM defense… BTW like I said Melo is a decent defender..
0 - Posted on: Sat, 09/25/2010 - 8:28am #406134
ronniemiller1kParticipantpersonally i dont even think avery johnson wants melo…he wants guys who will shut their mouths and work…melo bitching to get out of denver says alot already and from what i hear about favors hes a no nonsense blue collar work work work player. to lose a talent with that kind of mentality is hard to come by now days. and i havent been the biggest fan of devin, cuz like melo i feel hes a talented player but not a championship type player, but i know hell have a huge year which will increase his trade value if we decide to move him. dont get me wrong, id love to have carmelo, but for what we have to give up, no thank you.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 09/25/2010 - 8:34am #406135
andxxxParticipantCould I ask what Nets fans see in Derrick Favors? I see a very athletic player with not much skill, he looks like he could be a great defensive player, and just be a guy that scores most of his points through offensive rebounds and players creating for him
What do you guys see in him?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 09/25/2010 - 4:38pm #406285
marcusfizer21Participant… when Jason Kidd was still the man there…
