BallinmvpParticipantCalipari was in deep negotiations with the Cavs to become the next coach before he signed his mega deal with UK

tidhoParticipant‘almost’ might be a stretch
It could have been just a leverage move, but the deal the Cavaliers reportedly were offering had to be at least a little tempting.

JCliff24ParticipantAccording to reports the Cavaliers are still after Florida coach, Billy Donovan. Do you think the Cavs would offer Donovan a similar offer to the one they presented to Calipari?

doubledribblerParticipantIf Donovan commits to a team he better be 100% sure he wants to go. When he accepted the Orlando job (way back) it set his team back quite a bit.
As for Cal, taking less money to stay at UK is still a better job than Cleveland with the top pick in the draft. I don’t see why any of these coaches at the big programs would jump to take a bad NBA job. I do think Cal will eventually leave UK for an NBA job just to see if he can succeed the 2nd time around and by then he will have a host of former players in the league so if he lands in the right spot at the right time he may put himself in a great position.

CavsFan07ParticipantIt was a lot of money to turn down, but he is in great shape at Kentucky with a loaded team coming back.
However, knowing how Dan Gilbert is and how he won’t let money be the deciding factor, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cavs try to make one more push at him.. He just signed a 7 year $52.5 million extension, which is $7.5 million a year. I wouldn’t be even the slightest bit shocked if Gilbert throws out an offer of 8 years $80 million or something in that range.
I’m not saying I expect Calipari to accept, I just have a feeling Gilbert will up the ante one last time because he’s like a little kid that "gets what he wants."

imAboutDatActionParticipantreports came out that Cal actually turned down a 10 year close to $80 million deal.
so if Gilbert wants to up the ante, i guess the range is somewhere between $90 and $100 million lol
