drice4life1753ParticipantI am surprised by this move, because I do not think he deserves as much blame as het gets, but from a media perspective this is far from surprising thanks to ESPN the last couple weeks. Think Steve Kerr is interested? Or what doors does this open and how does it affects other head coaching vacancies?

imAboutDatActionParticipanthe;s not a good coach.
a poor x and o’s guy. didnt connect with the front office and had a few of his assistants get fired/demoted.
he’s a great player coach, but a poor game coach. just because he connects great with his players and says cliche quoetes doesnt mean he’s a good coach.

lolyouthParticipantYour right.
Mark Jackson isn’t a good coach because he say’s cliche quotes.
He’s a good coach because he won 47 games and advanced to the second round last year in the tough Western Conference. He’s a good coach because he won 51 games this year and lost to an impressive Clippers team in 7 games.
And yah, it totallly doesn’t matter at all that he connects with his players and they love him.
Please.
……bet you’d make a great GM.

vulture711ParticipantI’m a bit puzzled on this one. Sort of like George Karl being axed after wining coach of the year !
Most head coaches aren’t the Kings of X’s and O’s – thats why Phil had Tex Winters – its about managing personalties and getting players to buy into what you’re doing – and I thought he was pretty good.

imAboutDatActionParticipantlast year that went up against the nuggets in the 1st round. a average team, dont get too happy about that win.
this GSW team was winning in spite of him. He had all the weapons on the offensive end with Curry, Thompson, Lee, yet.. they couldnt even hit the top 10 in offensive efficency. He wasn’t great at making adjustments nor drawing uo schemes. the GSW gave up a couple 1st round picks for Iggy to get a high seed and advance past the 1st round…but they didnt. Yes Bogut was out, but expectations are still high.
Jackson is a glorified motivational speaker. i dont mind the front office letting him go. Just because a team wins regualr season games doesnt mean the coach is great. Hell, Scott brooks is going thru somthing similar now.

Ghost01ParticipantHe didn’t win the games, the players did. Not every good team has a good coach.
I would argue OKCs success is far more about the players than the coaching, and the same with the Warriors the last couple years.
if your logic is that the team was good so the coach must of been, that’s flawed logic. Vinny DelNegro made the playoffs 4 out of the 5 years he’s coached. I don’t see anyone whining about him not being a coach any more and calling it an "injustice" or any of that.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIn the Lakers thread, I mentioned Johnny Dawkins as a guy I would go after. Duke pedigree, played in the NBA, an assistant under Coach K, and had a really good year at Stanford.
Well, Dawkins would be a good fit here too. Stay in Northern California. With Curry, Klay, and Iggy this looks like a pretty good job.

Mad MaxParticipantWarriors are going to need to do well with who they hire, I say get a veteran coach like Karl or Hollins who is a proven winner and commands respect, because I promise you Curry and the rest of the locker room are not happy about Jackson getting axed. A new guy with little to no experience will have a tough time getting over and proving himself.

As Jeff Van Gundy once said,’if they cant get you on results-they’re get you on relationships….He has proved he can coach in this league..He understands the game well and did a great job of motivating his players…….Some team will hire him soon..But they’re going to look into the circumstances surrounding the incidents with the front offices and his assistants……

B-ball fanParticipantI feel like there was something pretty wrong behind the scenes that we don’t know. The whole assistant coach recording meetings seems like a bit of a red flag.
It will be interesting to see how the Warriors do without him. Obviously they won a lot with him, but they also have tons of talent. The Warriors definitely have room to improve if they can stop with the annoying bench mob stuff at the ends of quarters and get everybody healthy.

aramboneParticipant"It wasn’t just about philosophical differences between he and co-owner Joe Lacob, or the two assistant coaches. He told assistant general manager Kirk Lacob, the owner’s son, not to talk to his assistant coaches."
Add in nepotism, just like NBA headquarters. Privileged, entitled owner’s son given title of assistant GM and meddles with the coach and the players, who actually earned their positions.
Then you have a white assistant coach recording coaches conversations, probably at the behest of the big Jews. Add in that Jackson is a Christian, one more reason to make Chosen egomaniacs feel "uncomfortable".
How many egomaniac owners with little basketball knowledge keep screwing up their teams?

I heard the rumors, but I just thought it was the media trying to stir stuff up because it looked like he has done a great job so far. They lost their starting center and still took the Clippers to 7 games. He’ll get hired again soon, but who are the Warriors wanting to replace him with?

machu46ParticipantIt’ll be interesting to see how they do without him next year. If there is behind-the-scenes issues going on (which by all reports, there was), I can understand the move. I think they expected to be a bit better than they ended up being this year. I thought they were one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the West on paper before the year began, and they had stretches where they looked like one of the best teams in the league, only to come back down to earth with some head-scratching slumps.
Things aren’t so cut and dry that you can say "HE won 51 games". The team won 51 games. Some would argue that they won in spite of him. Some might argue that they won because they were a good team with a good coach. But them winning 51 games doesn’t mean that he’s a good coach. They had a very talented team on paper this year. They have arguably the best PG-SG duo in the league, a good scoring PF paired with a great defensive C, a do-it-all SF in Iggy, and then some strong players off the bench. Winning 51 games is no surprise regardless of the coach.

Ny2daDeathOFmeParticipantI dont know if this has been said but Mark Jackson has gotten better every year as the warriors coach so to fire him after posting his best record thus far as the warriors head coach makes no sense. You would think he and the team can only get better with time but i guess the organization just didnt like Mark Jackson. With all the rumors floating around , it really seems like this was more personal then a business choice.
Now What Warriors?

aramboneParticipantNow what? Probably some white coach who is an extension of the owner and the owner’s son. Probably the players resent the situation, don’t respond well to adversity, the coach criticizes the players, the team underachieves, and the incompetent ownership reshuffles the roster with or without the coach.
Just a guess.

jtthebrickParticipantMark Jackson has a bad reputation here in Utah for being a locker room divider. He told teammates he should start over Stockton. He told DeShawn Stevenson he should make a power play for more playing time to try to wrestle star power and locker room control away from Malone.
Jackson clashed with the owner Joe Lacob, he had an argument with the assistant GM that was so bad that they stopped talking. He clashed with 2 assistant coaches and fired or demoted them. He got angry and clashed with lesser staff like the dance manager and an employee that passes out drinks.
On top of all that, he apparently isn’t a good tactician, and good coaches prove themselves in the playoffs with adjustments.
One could argue that he didn’t maximize the stellar talent that he had.
I really feel like most that say it was a bad firing are just tunnel visioning on the improved record. Is the improved record because of Mark Jackson or because of the top notch talent that they have at almost every position?

machu46ParticipantYeah I agree. At the end of the day, unless you win championships, you’re not going to keep your job if you piss off literally everyone in a higher-up position.
That isn’t to say that he can’t be a good coach somewhere else. He just didn’t fit in with the Warriors organization.

JoeWolf1I think Mark would be great in Cleveland with their young back court. Mike Brown is a defensive coach, who is incredibly un creative on offense, and without Lebron to act as a facilitator, his teams don’t score much.
Cleveland was 22nd in the league in scoring, and I think adding one of the best faciliating point guards in my lifetime to coach the Cavs could have a great effect on Kyrie Irving. Much like it did with Steph Curry, who was more of a combo, but with Jackson’s help he was an 8.5 apg player this season.
Jackson also took the Warriors from a team ranked 28th in the league, during Keith Smart’s last season and turned them into a top 10 defensive squad in his 3rd year. Jackson can coach, but he’s a strong personality. I think he could really help out Cleveland and I think Dan Gilbert, and the city of Clevland are a good fit and could handle a strong minded head coach.

HitsterParticipantMark Jackson is very unlucky to be out of a job after an excellent regular season and a close play off defeat with his defensive anchor Andrew Bogut. I’m guessing there is more to his release than just results as things have happened behind the scenes that are well documented.
Some very good points above about Jackson being a very good people coach and man manager but not a great tactical coach. Ironically this or the reverse may well apply to a lot of coaches and again as pointed out above that is what assistants are for to support the Head Coach in areas they may lack a bit of expertise.
In a lot of sports including basketball you may find that the Head Coach or GM may not be be the greatest individual coach but they are damn good at getting the right support people under them doing their defined roles and they act as a catalyst to bring all the pieces together.
