Listening to Stan Van Gundy on the radio is Orlando yesterday and he made sense. He said, in a few years the Bulls will be in the same position as the Magic was with Dwight. Rose will look around and see no other real star and no way to get one. He will see other teams with multiple all stars and will have to make a choice.

Frankly, in this new era of basketball it is a possibilty  for all teams and their stars

It’s a little bit different; first of all, Rose’s injury means the Bulls have a chance to pull a SAS and tank for one season to find that star. Secondly, Rose is from Chicago, and unlike Cleveland, it’s a major market so it wouldn’t be that hard to convince a star to join him in FA. Thirdly, Rose is young enough to ride out the Big 3 era; Nets, Knicks and Lakers will all be more or less finished in three years – at least they won’t have three prime All-Stars anymore; Miami will still be young enough to be a threat to him, but OKC is the only team with a young core of All-Star calibre players – really the only team he needs to worry about.

I really don’t think there’s much comparison with Rose and Dwight, or even Rose and Lebron. Chicago isn’t Orlando, Cleveland, Denver, Utah, Toronto or New Orleans (all the teams that lost their franchise player recently off the top of my head), he won’t have the same difficulties finding people who want to play there.

The Bulls don’t have any other super stars, except they do have Deng, Noah and Taj Gibson. That is a good core right there. Boozer is okay. The Bulls are taking a big step backwards in this off season, but they could still be a playoff team without Rose. Remember for the last two years they won plenty of games whenever Rose has been hurt. Now they don’t have Brewer, Korver or Asik, so there bench is much weaker than it was. But I don’t think they are tanking to the point where they will get a high draft choice.

Chicago is a big market and a great city to live in. It will never have problems retaining and getting talent.

VanGundy family loves to say crazy things. Rose isn’t going anywhere, I think he loves Chicago too much. Once they amnesty boozer they will have some money to spend. They also have that Charlotte pick, unprotected in 2016.

Lol… This is a totally different scenario.  First off the Bulls are in a big market, the whole idea is that stars are leaving small market teams to team in big markets.  2nd, Chicago is Rose’s hometown, every player dreams of playing in their hometown, why would he leave?  3rd, Rose has shown in the past he’s not into recruiting othe players, he wants to be the man on his team.  I don’t see him ever leaving the Bulls.

Chicago is about as big of a market as it gets outside of NY and LA.  No matter what he says, Dwight wasn’t leaving Orlando because they couldn’t surround him with winners.  He wanted to go where the spot light is a little brighter.

Rose embraces Chicago, is a shy and humble guy, I don’t see him bolting for a bigger market and holding his teammates in limbo for an entire year.  He and KD signed extensions, they’re a different kind of guy ( not good or bad, just different ) than Melo, Bron, Wade and Howard.  Call me naive, but they come accross as a lot more loyal.

In reality not many players stay with a team. Whether they want to leave on their own wishes, or they get traded/dropped. Even if a player is extremely loyal to a team, that doesn’t mean he won’t be traded or not resigned at the end of a contract, it’s a business not a family.

I did a little digging because this sparked my interest, here is a list of players who going into the 12-13 season are still with the same team they first logged minutes for, I’m not counting draft trades like Kobe Bryant for example, because he’s only logged minutes for one team officially. I chose 8 years as the cut-off, simply because by their 8th year most players are done with or almost done with their second contract, which is when players are most likely to hit free agency or be traded. Also keep in mind I’m counting this year since they’re still currently on these teams, i.e. Kobe has played 16 years, but he’s going into his 17th.

    • 8 Years – Andray Blatche (Wizards)
    • 8 Years – Jose Calderon (Raptors)
    • 8 Years – Francisco Garcia (Kings)
    • 8 Years – Danny Granger (Pacers)
    • 8 Years – Jason Maxiell (Pistons)
    • 9 Years – Andris Biedrins (Warriors)
    • 9 Years – Nick Collison (Sonics/Thunder)
    • 9 Years – Luol Deng (Bulls)
    • 9 Years – Udonis Haslem (Heat)
    • 9 Years – Jameer Nelson (Magic)
    • 9 Years – Josh Smith (Hawks)
    • 9 Years – Anderson Varejao (Cavaliers)
    • 10 Years – Dwyane Wade (Heat)
    • 11 Years – Manu Ginobili (Spurs)
    • 11 Years – Tayshaun Prince (Pistons)
    • 12 Years – Tony Parker (Spurs)
    • 15 Years – Dirk Nowitzki (Mavericks)
    • 15 Years – Paul Pierce (Celtics)
    • 16 Years – Tim Duncan (Spurs)
    • 17 Years – Kobe Bryant (Lakers)

As you can see there isn’t very many players that have stayed with a team for at least 8 years, and once it hits 10 years it starts thinning out quickly.

Interesting notes; almost half of these players are internationally born. Spurs seem to have the most loyalty with three players staying there for over a decade. Only 7 of these players have been All-Stars(not counting Jameer Nelson since he didn’t play).

All 8 players with ten years on the same team have won championships. But I suppose only Dirk and Pierce were "rewarded" for staying with their team by eventually getting a title. The rest of those guys won titles ( their first) early in their careers and obviously winning keeps stars where they are.

It’s incredible how few players have been with the same team for even 8 years.

I agree with most of what is being said.  I agree with Tallman NYC in the tanking ala SAS 2012-2013.  Shelve Rose for the season until he is 100% healthy (agree with Reinsdorf), get a high draft pick, amnesty Boozer, sign Taj and bring over that kid from Spain (Nikola Mirotic) and make the most of that Charlotte pick in 2016 (unprotected).

Van Gundy is a blow hard.  When he wants a coaching gig, he is more conservative with his comments.  When he has no interest in coaching, he makes statement like this.

I wish I could hire Stan Van as coach of the Clippers. Lol. Oh well. Yea, way different situations. Rose is from Chicago, it’s a huge market, and Chicago hasn’t hamstrung themselves with horrible contracts(they can and should amnesty Boozer). They have tradable assets to bring in someone when the opportunity rises. This team is also based on defense so they will always be competitive with Thibs there. The biggest factor is Rose is Dwight. Not the personality. I feel Rose has a sense of loyalty. Could he leave? Yes but I don’t think it’s likely.

Rose isn’t a new gen superstar. He’s not a diva. Derrick is old school, grimy to the bone.

He ain’t leaving.  If the deck is stacked against him, he’ll just bear down and work harder.

My understanding is that mock draft contest results are scored and points are given. I guess I scored pretty high. I’m not here for the points anyways so neg away.

I would copy and paste my points timeline, but i already wasted enough of my time responding to you.

Different scenario……I doubt Rose would want to leave the hometown he dreamed of playing in. The Bulls have a much better outlook than the Magic did and they are willing to make moves to surround DRose with talented players.

I wouldnt. The explanantion is simple and I already went over it.  The reason i got so many points before I made a single post is right here.
