just saw bulls offered jj reddick a 3 year 20 mill deal to go along with korver who they signed earlier. I think the magic have the irght to match still.

I think JJ will stay with the Magic……but it would be another nice addition….can’t wait for the season to start already.

IMO, that’s a little overkill. 19 mil for just another shooter?

I would look for a creative combo guard/forward type. If I was Minnesota, I would call for Corey Brewer.

Seriously though… Over 6 million a year for a backup? Unless they really believe that he will thrive in their system that seems like quite a bit of money, even if he plays good minutes.

Bulls are terrible with money, outside of the Boozer deal.

It’s too bad James Anderson isn’t one of those who will be shooting 3’s for the Bulls next year, the Bulls got a little too confident they would land two big FA’s giving away the 17th pick along with Hinrich for a bag of chips. They should have kept 17 and drafted James Anderson the whole time, instead they want to resort to Reddick for 7 million a year….James Anderson vs JJ Reddick, hmmmm.

What could have been, this squad have been competitive:

    PG: Rose/Hinrich
    SG: Anderson/Hinrich/Korver
    SF: Deng/Korver/JamesJohnson
    PF: Boozer/Gibson
    C: Noah

If I was Chicago I would go for Matt Barnes to get into those Superstars faces and stop some of the elite scorers in the now loaded east.

Completely agree with you. They should have kept Hinrich if they were willing to spend that much on guys like Korver and Reddick (especially since trading away Hinrich came along with jettisoning the 17th pick overall).

Hinrich was their best perimeter defender, a team leader, an experienced vet that could provide quality minutes at the point when Rose was on the bench.

Kinda funny that they offered this kind of money to Korver and Reddick when Anthony Morrow would have been a cheaper pick up. Morrow is younger than both of the others, has been a more consistant scorer and in the last two seasons (his only two seasons in the league) he’s hit 226 3-pointers at a clip of 46%. Staggering numbers. They must’ve been convinced that his numbers were at least partially attributed to Nellie ball.

Personally I think this lineup would’ve been better than what the Bulls have now. At least on paper. To be fair I’m not sure if Asik can even come over yet or not.

PG Derrick Rose/Kirk Hinrich (6th man)
    SG Anthony Morrow/James Anderson
    SF Luol Deng/James Johnson
    PF Carlos Boozer/Taj Gibson
    C Joakim Noah/Omer Asik

Also, on a sidenote, what is up with the Bulls and former Blue Devils players?

If Orlando doesn’t match, they’re gonna have three starting former Duke players in their starting lineup next year: Reddick, Deng and Boozer. This is also the team that drafted Elton Brand and Jay Williams and badly wanted Maggete in 1999 although he was taken before their second first rounder came up.

Perhaps they will now pursue Shelden Williams to add depth to their frontcourt and next off season will sign Battier to a big deal in order to add a lockdown wing defender to the team…

Who are the Bulls going to guard? Rose is still a work-in-progress on that end, it is probably his biggest weakness. Redick and Korver aren’t going to stop anyone. Boozer isn’t anyone’s definition of a defensive stud. Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson aren’t Dwight Howard. They can’t make up for a roster bad defensive players around them.

I’m really curious to see how they fill out their roster right now.

The only guys they have are..

    C.- Noah
    Pf- Boozer
    Sf- Deng
    SG- Korver
    Pg- Rose

    Bench
    PF- Gibson
    SF/PF- Johnson

I would hope they’d be able to bring in a shooting guard that would start over Korver and have him relive the 2 and 3 off the bench for an offensive spark. The free agents on their summer league team that have a chance to make the roster include…AJ Ogilvy, Chris Richard, Matt Bouldin, Morris Almond, John Lucas III and Samuardo Samuels, but they really need some higher caliber players at the guard positions and a solid backup center to be more than a first or second round loser in the playoffs. Maybe Ronnie Brewer or Roger Mason?? They can at least play some D and Shannon Brown could be a good backup energy point guard, I guess only time will tell if they can form a legit playoff threat by October.

i gotta defend jj becuz too many people are bashing him rite now. if u have watched any of the gamesthis season u will see that jj really brought his game to a new level this year. he wasnt jus taking and making jumpshots he was actually creating for others and scoring off the dribble. and as much as ppl say he cant play defense he actually did really well this year. he beat guys by thinking and playing angles instead of trying to use jus ability 2 guardpeople and thats y he was successful. now of course he can guard the lebrons and kobes but sh*t who can? nobody thats y they are superstars.

Do I actually watch the games? Hmm… I’m actually quite certain if you pop in the tape that you will see Ray Allen was a better shooter when J.J. Redick’s hand was flailing trying to get in his face that when shooting in a gym alone.

Do you also know why he didn’t play in anything but garbage time in the Charlotte or Atlanta series? Because what a 6’8 shooting guard like Stephen Jackson and a 6’7 Joe Johnson can do to him is turn a sweep into a six or seven game series.

That much money for a guy coaches can’t have on the floor regardless of matchups is nothing short of wasteful.

magic GM otis smith said they anticipate matching that offer

as far as former dukies … bulls also drafted chris duhon

… and i’d like to see them go after a guy like ronnie brewer – start him or korver depending on the match-ups or what you want on the floor at a given time, i’d really like to see them round out that roster with brewer though, that at least makes up for the loss of hinrich’s defense

    Greatest NBA contract pardons:

    1) David Stern rescinding Juwan Howard’s $100+ million contract with the Heat.

    2) Orlando matching MLE offer from Dallas for Marcin Gortat.

    3) Orlando matching 3 year $19 million offer from Chicago for J.J. Redick.

What is even worse for Orlando is that between the salary and tax, they will spend $14 million on a guy they can’t have on the floor opposite Stephen Jackson or Joe Johnson. For all the people who dismiss my comment about the importance of luck for GMs, where would Otis Smith be without Dwight Howard? Who gets bailed out by more dumb decisions than Smith because of the luck of the lottery?

Jj reddick actualy isn’t a bad defender. I watched alot of magic games while living in fl and was suprised at how much better his defesne has gotten. Anyone who has watched him can clearly see that he’s no linger a bad defender. Morrow in the other hand has no interest in defense. They might be overpaying for him but he’s still gonna get better and has gotten better every year

Orlando has Rashard Lewis … AND … Vince Carter … however unjust you think the value of Reddick’s contract is … it pales in comparison to those

Vince Carter and Rashard Lewis are good at basketball, and -by the way- already under contract.

Let me put Orlando’s upcoming decision in perspective. If they choose to match Chicago’s offer on Redick, they would be willing to enter into a contract where they would pay as much in salary and tax for Redick’s services as Miami will Dwyane Wade. Don’t try to defend it.

As for my list of NBA contract pardons, if Utah matches the offer on Wesley Matthews (and they are too smart of an organization to do that) they’d have to battle the Juwan Howard deal for number one. Oh my.
