I’m not sure what the Nets are doing this off season. Tyler Johnson , Justin Hamilton, and Allen Crabbe are they’re grabs via free agency.

They’re trying to get young talent via free agency and hope these guys become above average starters. TJ and Crabbe have potential to become just that plus they also grab Lin so they’re also trying to win as much as they can so Boston won’t get such a high pick in next year’s draft.

You’re right that they grabbed Lin but they could care less where Boston picks. They’re motivation is developing the players they have.

Trying to grab players with upside using the two things they have to offer: money and available playing time.

Don’t forget Trevor Booker sigh. Their trying to turn these role players into stars. I just hope they don’t stunt the development of Caris Levert, the player they spent Thad Young for, and the one with most potential!!

It seems a bit strange they traded away Thad Young who had a very reasonable contract and then offer huge money to the much less proven Allen Crabb. I have to say again kudos to Kevin Pritchard and the Pacers for getting Young for a relatively low draft pick. With the new contracts now in place Thad’s trade value may have been higher.

The good thing for the Nets is that with mega deals flying around – Brook Lopez’s 2 years remaining deal suddenly looks very good value so his trade value may have increased.

The Nets seem to have added a lot of backcourt players via FA – Crabb, Lin, Johnson after they drafted LeVert unless they are looking to run a smallball line up possibly with one at SF.

Crabb should be a good scorer and Linsanity can put up good numbers and will bring in fans too.

They will probably make another move or two as Sean Marks rounds out his roster and a lot depends on what sort of offers they might get for Brook Lopez.

If you’re the GM, what can you do? You don’t have any draft picks to look forward to and your not attractive to big name players.

How this guy still has a job in the NBA is so confusing.

He is a fraud.  Brought in a broken C-Webb to play with Iverson in Philly.  Somehow lands with the Nets, makes a bad trade for aging vets which guts the future of his franchise.

I’m all for Affirmative Action, but Billy King is the problem.  African Americans deserve front office positions, but that doesn’t mean you keep a smooth talking African American in place simply because of the color of his skin when he is horrible at his job.  I am sure he is ruining AA for AAs.

Having said that, I do like all their moves.  Tyler Johnson and Allen Crabbe and Jeremy Lin were all guards I wanted the Sixers to try to sign.  Sick of Hollis Thompson and Isiah Canaan.  I don’t care for Gerald Henderson and Jerryd Bayless.

Maybe the Sixers aren’t spending the money on project guards knowing they can’t overpay projects being that they have some bonafide stars on their team who are going to get paid in the future.

You can’t have Crabbe and Lin making that kind of money while Simmons, Embiid, Noel, Saric are licking their chops saying "wait wait Allen Crabbe was making this much while I was putting up digits!".

Sean Marks is the GM of the Nets now. He’s trying to build a team without the first round picks King dealt and used as pick swaps to get an old Paul Pierce and KG. This is Marks first shot of being in charge and hopefully for Nets fans he studied the Spurs system well. The hardest thing is I believe is even if the Nets bottom out they won’t get their pick for the next two seasons so the Nets will have to get creative which is what Marks has been doing so far in free agency.

hes also probably trying to raise the value of the guys he’s signing to attain some future assets. With no pick in 2018 and swap rights next year, hopefully he can flip guys like Lin and Booker to playoff teams at the deadline to teams that would give their pick away like the Clippers, Wizards, and Pistons( though it was vetoed) did last season. Their only hope for building a future is through developing the guys they have signed or moving guys for future assets

I’m not super sold on Tyler Johnson developing into much, but I don’t mind the Crabbe and Lin deals.

Brooklyn is in an odd position in that they are stuck in limbo. They aren’t good enough to contend, or even contend for a playoff spot. They are bad enough to bottom out, but the bottom is so far away because they are without high-end picks for the next two seasons.

So if you are the owner/GM, you basically make the best of a bad situation, sign guys who want to inflate their value, make the product as entertaining as possible so you put butts in the seats and hope that some of the guys you paid either become good players for your team going forward, or they play well enough to become quality assets that can be used to expedite the rebuild process.

There really isn’t much more to say about it. Horrific trade to Boston set them back years, and now they’ve got to pay the piper for a while. Doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try to make the product at least watchable in the meantime.

That man has a tough road ahead of him.  The Nets were decimated by the last bunch they hired.

All they have left is dumpster trash.  Even their most valuable asset has foot problems helping to limit his worth.

The trade with the Celtics will go down as one of the worst trades in history of the NBA. The Nets are worse off at this point than what a expansion team would be.  If Marks is able to turn this team around he will become my hero.

I find it a little strange that they are possibly throwing all this money at Johnson and Crabbe after they drafted LeVert and Whitehead who are kind of the same players? With Wade gone, Miami has the cap space to match and Portland has very deep pockets.

It did surprise me they have put so much money onto a bunch of guards after possibly reaching for Caris LeVert in the draft. Caris was picked as we assumed he was seen as an NBA ready senior who could play solid minutes, they could have used the pick to take a younger guy with more upside or someone in a different position.

Plus they got into the draft to get Whitehead who is another combo guard, the only thing I can suggest is that Kenny Atkinson might be looking to run a smallball line up and possibly play 3 guards on occasions.

Good point about Sean Marks signing players he can possibly flip for future assets around deadline day. The Nets have to get creative and a lot will depend on what they do with Brook Lopez because as his contract winds down his trade value will decrease.

Job……… Marks gets the job but is in an Impossible situation

Colangelo lands in Phila where they are teeming w/ young talent & tons of 1st round picks……

Nevertheless, I like what Marks has done in Brooklyn…….. His hands are tied but he managed to create some interest for Nets fans by trading into the 1st round for Caris Levert

They still have RHJ – who I like as a solid pro – they have a 20 & 10 guy in Lopez as their center piece & they overspent for some decent (not great) but decent young talent which I like b/c they HAD to over-spend…..

So all in all & considering the difficult circumstances Marks is off to a good start in Brooklyn……
