I read an article on BR and it said the Pacers should target Deron Williams in a trade. Personally, I cannot stand watching the Nets, but there is no denying what Williams was. He was a 20 point, 10 assist guy who could hold his own on defense and shot in the high 30% from deep. Now he isn’t that player, but how much of that is his fault? The Nets are terrible, and they haven’t used their players well in the past few years. Lionel Hollins does not have his Marc Gasol or Zach Randolf anymore. There are concerns over Williams attitude, and they should be recognized, but I see them as his competitive side.

The Nets would do this trade because it gets money off the books in two years, rather than three. George Hill and Hibbert are good players, and have higher trade value than Williams. There contracts are also smaller, so they would be easier to move, if need be. I also see the Nets as being able to trade Brook Lopez this year to a team like the Suns, Lakers, or Knicks. The Suns would be the best place for Lopez, because they are living on the fountain of youth. Need examples? Look at Jermaine O’Neal, Alex Len, Leandro Barbosa.

Although the trade is pretty even for both sides I don’t think either side should want this. Although Williams is playing solid from the PG position I believe his body is to fragile to get through the rigors of an entire season and a deep playoff run. Taking his contract on for the next three years is a major liability, perhaps wasting the best of Paul George’s years in Indiana. Although I really like Plumlee as a starting 5, if I were Indiana it wouldn’t be enough to take on Williams’ contract.

On the other side of things I don’t really see the value for Brooklyn. Williams is the face of their franchise whether they want it or not, and giving him and Plumlee away for two below-average players would be a lose-lose.

Is not touching Williams with a 10ft pole, he has shown nothing the last couple of years to warrant his salary and he is no better than George Hill nowadays.

I would never give up a still fantastic defensive player in Hibbert for him.

If they are going to upgrade PG I think they do it in free agency and go after Dragic or they look in the draft at Mudiay or Russell depending on availability and draft pick.
