Would getting Jeff Hornacek be a good hire for the Nets?

They have no reason to Tank with the picks going to Boston and he surprised everyone a few years back with how the Suns picked up there play and nearly made the playoffs when people thought they were a good chance of winning the lottery.

The Nets is not a good coaching job for anyone.  They don’t get a draft pick until midway through the 23rd century and they have no talent any other team wants right now.

The Nets are a good coaching job for anyone who isn’t currently an NBA coach. An opportunity is what you make of it….

A previously fired coach has no guarantees of ever getting another Head Coaching job. Additionally, almost every Assistant Coach in the league would take it for the money alone.

The Nets aren’t getting anyone with a legit NBA pedigree for until at least after next season unless they give that candidate executive control. And even with a first timer, I bet you whoever they hire will get a "guarantee" in some form that there position is safe until at least after the 2017-2018 season.

I’m a UK fan and we’ve got Tai Wynyard (also Kiwi) who will hopefully redshirt this season.  I remember watching his dad in the lumberjack competitions back in the day, and he was always beast.  The type of dude to eat metal for breakfast.  I’m excited about his toughness, I miss Boogie and his muscle.

Not sure his lumberjack dad would make such a great coach though

Hornacek would be a good fit for most teams looking to hire a coach because he is simply a good coach. I only really watched his Suns teams when they were playing the Knicks/Nets locally or playing a good opponent on the national TV schedule but it seemed like they were always winning games/playing better teams down to the wire and playing to their strengths as a group, especially the first year with Goran and Bledsoe. It seems as if every player developed and improved under Hornacek as well (see: PJ Tucker, Morris twins, Alex Len, TJ Warren). He balanced lineups well out of weird, albeit talented rosters that seemed to have unnecessary turnover. The GM undoubtedly has an eye for talent but most of the trades and FA signings have just seemed weird and inconsistent with any sort of long term plan.

Maybe Hornacek wouldn’t be a good fit in Brooklyn because, as Charles Barkley would say, they are a "mickey mouse organization." The Russian Billionaire rarely is in the picture and the team has no GM, an interm coach, and no draft picks. I think Hornacek would be good for a young team like the Timberwolves or even a playoff contender like the Rockets. I’d take him on my Lakers any day of the week.

Nets need to hire a coach for two or three years and then throw them away.  A losing coach, someone who knows they have no chance but will have the team playing fun basketball and help their young players.

If they spend big on Thibodeau or Calapari or someone else then it will be money gone and lots of losses, and probably controversy.

Hornacek doesn’t have a link to the Nets, or the area except for a few games for the 76ers that nobody remembers, but he can get young players to play the right way.

Mo Cheeks, someone to coach for a few bad years and then give the team to a big-money coach.  Mo did play in New York briefly.

    Coach Kirilenko?

    Blatt?

What Brooklyn needs is a motivator. There is enough talent on that roster to win more games than they already have. Maybe they don’t make the playoffs…but there’s no reason to tank and they have no young guys to give experience to.

They just lack the drive to get it done. Lopez, Joe Cool and Deron Williams have been the chief culprits. None of them gives a damn about winning and it drove the franchise into the dirt. I can only imagine the front-office has something to do with it also.

Paul Pierce went into great detail about how the team had no ambition or sense of urgency. When him and KG got there, they hoped to be "final pieces"…Instead they found themselves forced to be leaders of a bunch of quiet guys they hardly knew.

Philly attracted Brett Brown when they were clearly going into tank mode but they did have the advantage of owning draft picks.

Brooklyn almost need a coach who is good at getting the best out of limited resources as well as someone who would be good at coaching younger players.

They may not attract a top level guy but if they are offering say $3 million a year plus then there will be interest.

David Blatt was hired as a coach to develop the Cavs before LBJ returned, he was hugely respected in Europe and did little wrong in the NBA. A lot could depend on what his Cavs pay off was.Hornacek will probably want a break but come summer he may well be ready to return.

Mike D’Antoni would play entertaining ball which could help settle fans on a losing team.

Tom Thibs may be looking to return so might consider if the offer was right.

Maybe try for the best young college coach and say lets write off the next few years but we’ll back you in rebuild.
