For_Never_EverParticipantThomas Campbell-US PRESSWIREThe last couple of weeks have been full of NBA rumors and lots of potential moving. The latest one has the Boston Celtics in hot pursuit of Courtney Lee. The guard formerly played for the Houston Rockets, but was deemed expendable by the team.
The Boston Celtics have emerged as a serious suitor for Courtney Lee after coach Doc Rivers met with the free-agent guard Saturday night, according to sources familiar with Boston’s thinking.
Lee would be a good fit for the team, especially since Ray Allen has departed. Lee could be a great backup guard for the team and helps fill out their depth issues. The team would be willing to use a sign and trade to get the trade up to Boston.
Lee has plenty of suitors, but it looks like the Celtics are in the lead right now. Lee certainly can not replace Allen, but he brings good defense and some key shooting from the outside. Adding him alongside Jason Terry in the backcourt would give the Celtics a very nice bench combination.
A deal is far from done, but I think the Celtics have to have the inside track on Lee. It would be his best chance to win a title and there are minutes available. Doc Rivers certainly thinks he would be a good fit with the team and Doc is one of the best coaches in the league.
The NBA rumors keep flying, so the next couple of days are going to be fun.

Memphis MadnessParticipantThis would be a great signing. He can shoot outside too, to go along with his other skills. This signing would fill a need now, and give them another piece to build around once KG and PP leave.
Courtney Lee shot 40% on 3’s and 83% from the line so he makes up for some of Ray Allen’s long range bombs and gives them a better athlete, slasher, and defender.
I would actually rather have a Jason Terry/Courtney Lee combo than just an aging Ray Allen. Ray Allen has a great reputation and is a great shooter but he does have slumps and has had some injuries the past couple of years.
If the Celtics get Lee he would give them another great guard. Rondo, Avery, Terry, and Lee would give the Celtics the best guard depth in the league.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantWho could they deal in a sign-and-trade? If they have retained Garnett, Bass, Green, and used there MLE on Terry, then how can this work? I cannot believe they will be looking to move Avery Bradley, and it is not as if Mickael Pietrus, Marquis Daniels, Greg Stiemsma or Ryan Hollins can match money in sign-and-trades.

IndianaBasketballParticipantCan’t they just use draft picks to trade for him like the Lakers did with the Suns for Steve Nash?
Regardless… I like this move. Courtney Lee has been underrated ever since his days here at Pike High School. Very good two way player.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantThe Lakers used their trade exception from the Lamar Odom trade to make Nash fit. I do not believe Boston has any trade exception much less one that will make Lee fit. It will be interesting to see how they make it work with the cap.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThat’s right… Forgot about that Odom trade exception.
I have no clue then.
