JaeEvolutionParticipantWho do you see being the better pro prospect?
BJ Young has had his two best game against ranked teams, and reminds me of a less stocky Eric Gordon, has a kind of from the hip jumper, very quick that gets him into the lane, and sneaky athletically.
Will Barton I know a lot of people on here like him a lot, I’m also one. Not sure who I can really compare him to, his game is very unorthodox, he is like a slasher supreme and has a deadly floater from inside the FT line not to mention he gets to the FT line quite a bit, along with being one of the best guard rebounders in college.
Like both of these guys a lot, do they come out this year and how do you see them as players?

FastAndFuriousParticipantI like BJ Young take the fact he is exploding this year and was uknown til his senior year, gives me reason to think he is a late bloomer and will continue to get better and better. He is slim at 6-3 175, but his frame says he can put on a good 20 pounds and bulk up withought sacrificing much if anything, big time scorer at that.
Will Barton is good to rated as the #1 SG in his HS class, but Bartons lack of strength and lack to gain strength really scares me, and thinks this will limit him in the NBA, at 6-6 170 pounds Barton looks like a middle school basketball player out there physically, he is extremley small, he has great physical gifts can score and rebounds pretty good. But will he be able to get those same type of rebounds with Dwight Howard down there or Andrew Bynum down there, or Kobe Bryant putting a body on him, hell or Rondo putting a body on him.
Will he be able to attack the same without getting cut off by alot stronger MEN?
I think I would take BJ Young, if Will Barton gains weight I think he becomes a problem, but until then I dont think he will be much of a factor in the NBA.
Rashad MCcants
Lebron James
JR Smith
Gerald Green
Wayne Ellington
Eric Gordon
Jrue Holiday
Avery Bradley
Will Barton
Austin Rivers
Since 02 every SG rated #1 in the country has gone to the NBA max 2 years after graduating(Rivers will be gone after this year) and Ellington stayed 3 years. Barton doesn’t seem like he will be in that company, not that it matters, but I think he has red flags that we dont know about, or his lack of strength really puts fear into GM’s, because his numbers are great( 19.1 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 2.6 APG) but still looked at as a secound round pick for NEXT YEAR? There’s more to the story I believe.

river09ParticipantBarton reminds me of more aggressive/athletic chris douglas-roberts (who coincidentally was also out of memphis) in just their lanky slashing/unorthodox playing styles.. Seeing as CDR was able to do just fine before opting for europe.. I could see Barton really fitting in well in time regardless of when he comes out. It wouldn’t hurt his long term durability if he put on a few pounds of muscle though.. Or else he could be wearing a facemask and doing his best rip impression within the next couple years(!, just thought of that comparison), he does move awfully well without the ball and already has a dangerous mid range game.. I wouldn’t expect his rebounding numbers to translate to the NBA though…. I would say he’s a good pro prospect..
Sorry haven’t seen much of BJ young, it’s on my "to do" list…

jeff416ParticipantBarton, easily. People worry way to much about his strength. Anthony Davis is as skinny, if not skinnier than Barton is, yet every one has him as a top 3 pick. And Davis plays a position that needs much more physical strength than Barton does. Also, he should be able to make up for his lack of strength with his length and motor. And strength is a thing that can always be added.
I actually kind of like the CDR comparison though, but I think Barton is a better NBA prospect than he was. He is more athletic, and is a better passer and rebounder than CDR was. I also think he is a sligthly better shooter than CDR was.

FastAndFuriousParticipantWhen will he gain strength tho?
6-6 175 HS Senior
6-6 175 College Sophomore?
As I stated Barton is super talented but his strength will hinder him in the NBA, if he doesn’t gain any.

HALO187ParticipantWill Barton reminds me a lot of Michael Cooper a guy that is thin but very effective. Kevin Durant is Rail thin and he still gets it done Kevin Garnett is rail thin and he gets it done, Getting bigger is not always the answer, he will get drafted low even though I think he’s a first round talent. He goes to the basket hard and can defend and -rebound at the 2-guard position I think this guy can be good

jeff416ParticipantStrength will come in time. A sophmore in college is still very young, and if he eats enough and works out enough he will eventually gain some strength.

For_Never_EverParticipantI was going to say he reminds me of CDR as well. But a better athlete, a really awkward player, floaters weird shooting, both huntch their back.

FastAndFuriousParticipantI agree Jeff, if he eats and lift heavy then he will gain weight and strength even if it all isn’t muscle his athleticism wont get affected by a little fat.
But in 2-3 years he hasn’t gained a pound, is that a sign of a bad work ethic? Wouldnt a top player, labeled the #1 SG in his class want to get better, and lift? It’s a no brainer for anyone who is skinny and good, that with added strength they will become an even better player.
No bashing Barton, just odd someone of his caliber hasn’t gained a pound from his senior year to now.

TRC1991Participantwill barton has a similar game to josh howards (and frame too now that i think about it)

JNixonParticipantBarton has definitely gained weight since HS what are you guys looking at lol, he visibly looks bigger and he was about 165 as an incoming Fr. He now weighs about 175-180. He does need more strength to project better to the NBA though, he’s been better this year but he’s still pretty rough around the edges as a player and that won’t change without added strength.

Lotto StudParticipantBJ Young/Boobie Gibson – If I don’t hit on no other comparison, just know I feel as if I struck on this one. Young is everything Gibson was in college to the depth of mold, style of play, and contribution. PG by nature but SG to the death of him. Young like Gibson could be a decent facilitator, but that just isn’t their game. Again Young like Gibson it’s chuck it, attack it, I got to get mine quick fast in a hurry. Style of play is not meant to create for others. If they get others involved it makes them irrelevant, you would forget they are on the court, this is the current situation of Boobie now.

OhCanada-ParticipantBarton oobviously has red flags all over. I love the guy to death but it is no secret. Things that may hinder him ion the NBA are having no effect in the college level.
First of all the guy is rail thin, and yes that is an issue. He makes up for his lack of strength with aggressiveness although will can only go so far when your driving on a guy with your hieght, your athletisism, and 50-70-pounds of muscle on you. Thats the NBA for you night in and night out.
Also he can sometimes struggle out of the half court. Much of Bartons success this year has come through the fastbreak in the open court where he can manuever and does not need to use his strength and uses skill and craftiness instead. The positive thing is there is alot of skill and craftiness, but you have to wonder how he would fit into a traditional NBA team.
What is his role? When he is out on the court what are we expecting him to do? Maybe he can be a nice deep shot, at SG, with rebounding capabilities but the problem with that is he wont be getting any boards in the NBA at 175-pounds. Is he going to end up like Corey Brewer, because alot of signs are pointng to that direction.
I honestly believe Barton needs to stay a year in college. He is a good player and skill wise he is developed enough for some NBA success although he cant enter the league under 200-pounds in my opinion. His team also needs to win some games.

Tobe BryantParticipantCome on guys, this kid gets almost 9 rebounds a game and you think he is EXTREMELY weak?? Strength will come in time, the guy was hurt last year so he probably didn’t workout much. In time, he’ll get stronger, and if not then he can adjust, there are a lot of great skinny players in the league, they do struggle, but are ok for the most part. And like J-Nixon said, he did gain weight, you guys act like he’s Kevin Durant thin. Lol. It’s not all about brute strength either, functional strength is better actually. I know guys who beast it in the weightroom but get man-handled on the court by sheer basketball ability.

FastAndFuriousParticipantBarton is Kevin Durant thin he looks like a crackhead out there not even trying to be funny.
Durant is listed 6-9 235 more like 6-10 225
Barton is listed 6’6 175
they are about the same size height to weight ratio
I see another Corey Brewer as well if he doesn’t gain any weight.
