upfront disclaimer:  I have not seen him play.

From what I have read few people have seen much of him.  I could be wrong that’s just what I read.

Why is there this much hype for a 6’9" C who has no offensive game?  yeah I know motor and wingspan.  But I just don’t get it.

According to current NBA GMs wingspan is just as important as height.  Remember Zo on D?  If Biyombo provides that and some putbacks, he’s a lottery pick, easily.  Zo, by the by, was also 6’9.

Biyombo’s best case scenario is Theo Ratliff. A nice piece to have if you already have a contending team, but if you’re looking for a core nuceleus piece, look elsewhere.

No one is going to draft this guy and think they can turn him to Hakeem on the offensive end, but what he can do well ( which is rebound and get in the way of shots ) he can do at a high enough level to contribute fairly early with a ceiling, when he learns to foul less and play smarter, of being an elite defender if he can improve this way.

In a stronger draft, I think he’d go much later, but I feel it’s kind of a perfect storm for him, and despite rumors of him falling, I think he’ll go in the lottery.

In his short stint in the ACB (top Spanish league) he put up the best per minute block rate by an insane margin.  More than double what Ibaka did in the same league.  He also plays defense extremely well for an 18 year old.  His per minute rebounding rate had him as a top 4 rebounder in the ACB.  Can’t play offense work a lick, but gets a fair amount of rebound put backs and assisted dunks.  His per minute FTA rate was also extremely good.  His standing reach is 9’3” or 9’4” depending on whether you go by NHS or Eurocamp.  Either way he’s effectively taller than Kanter if you consider standing reach over top of head height.

All this doesn’t change the fact that he’s never going to be an offensive force.  If he was a SF/SG this would be absolutely damning.  As a center prospect he has the potential to play defense/rebound/ and block shots at a very high level in the NBA.  He may bust, but the intrigue is that he has the potential to be a extremely good defensive specialist center.  That is an extremely valuable role player if he succeeds.  Of course people would prefer a 2 way player.  He isn’t one.  If the team drafting him accepts this and treats him as an extremely low usage center he could be really special in that role in a couple years.

The cliff notes version is he’s the anti-Bargani.  He won’t put any points on the board, but he’ll keep them off the board for the other team

Theres nothing worse then a bigman with no offensive game lol As a Bulls fan, I have seen many of them lol

I agree with another poster tho, probably a Theo Ratliff type player. Blocks shots, rebound the ball, play solid defense.

Yeah there’s nothing worse than contending with all those great bigs the Bulls have had over the year.  Noah should so have been traded for Melo!  Asik and Taj weren’t the catalysts for the Bulls only win on Miami! It’s all their fault! AMIRITE?

Look at Favors last year he had absolutely no offense but all the hype in the world, I know its cliche but they have things that can’t be coached like length, height, and athletisicim.

Ever heard of Ben Wallace? Tyson Chandler?

Neither have offensive games to speak of, but they were both crucial elements of championship teams (arguably 2nd or 3rd best players)… If there is one position that you want a lopsided player, it is a center who is an incredible rebounder and defender.

I’m not saying Biyombo will be as good as those guys, but his lack of offensive game doesn’t automatically make him a bad pick.
