The more the season wears on the more excited I get about these rookie big men, I will start at the “bottom” and work my way up.

On a Pacers note Rakeem Christmas is playing fantastic in D-League and I have no doubt he could be solid rotation player at least has more athleticism and a softer touch than I thought.

Lyles and Kaminsky are both starting to play well for there team and Kaminsky is giving exactly what any team that drafted him could ask for. These guys I don’t see as stars, but both could be nice starters on respective teams. (Lyles is starting in Utah due to injuries)

These next 5 guys are all really good and I could see them making an All-Star team at some point.

Bobby Portis is an absolute beast and I would not at all be surprised if he is starting after All-Star break, he has double-double potential and unlike high-motor players like Faried has offensive polish to go along with his aggressiveness. I like comparisons so I would honestly say Paul Milsap.

Myles Turner could be the best defensive player of the draft and he has one of the sweetest strokes on any big man. Has a great knack for blocking the ball and if he can add a bit of size and strength watch out. Turner strikes me as a Marcus Camby type with more range and a bit more offensive aggressiveness, the best two-way big Indiana has seen since JO is not out of the question.

Jahlil Okafor has great offensive polish and is better on defense than first thought. His upside to me is Al Jefferson only bigger, I am concerned he gets lost in the shuffle in Philly with Embiid and Noel.

KAT and Porzingis I have no comparison for and I think they will be the elite guys from this draft, we know what they can do they just need to build on it.

Even guys like Nikola Jokic, Willie Cauley-Stein, Boban Marjanovic, Larry Nance Jr and Jordan Mickey deserve some praise.

Nikola Jokic plays such a fundamentally sound game you would think he is a 10 year NBA vet. He also has a very well rounded game and has been one of the most consistent rookies this year.

Although WCS hasn’t quite figured it out he has shown flashes of his defensive capabilities and effiecient yet limited scoring abillity. He should be a great weapon in the future.

Marjanavic has had his minutes limited due to an extremely stacked frontcourt of Duncan, Aldridge, West, Diaw and the great Matt Bonner. He has carved out a mini role recently after showing he will consistently perform if given the oppurtunity. Great combination of size and skill. It should be interesting to see where he goes if he goes after his one year contract.

Larry Nance Jr dad won the first slam dunk contest and he may just be competing for his own this year if he keeps doing what he’s been doing. He is a great energy guy that is athletic with a non stop motor and good range.

I really think Mickey is being slept on at a high level. He has it all. Good mid range a n improving post game work ethic energy and defensive skill. I think he will be a very good pro.

Nance starts because he’s smart and works hard. He makes very few mistakes. He’d been deferring to others to a fault until a week and a half ago. Now he’s being more aggressive and scoring in double digits. His 20 footer is absolute money. He gets up as high as anyone in the league and he’s a true team believer. I’d been disappointed by his rebounding, it was subpar (5 a game?). However, someone talked to him and he’s being WAY more aggressive on the boards the last 2 games (14 rebounds each game). I think he’s really figuring it all right now and it coincides with Laker the recent wins. The only thing missing: blocks. I don’t get why. He’s in the top 3 in blocks all-time for Wyoming and he can jump; yet, he trails Julius Randle in blocks. Huh?

The league was shocked when Lance was taken that high up, but he went about where I and a few others projected. Frankly, he’s starting to play above his draft position. When in doubt, go for smart players with a good work ethic.

Towns will probably be an all-star next year and isn’t so far from one today. People don’t talk enoug about how well he’s playing.

I think Towns will enter star status next season, and superstar status by his 4th year. He’s an amazing talent.

Richaun Holmes looks like a legit NBA rotation big too.

Lyles has really improved for Utah in recent weeks, just in time to help hold down the playoff spot with 3 injured starters… He’s a perfect match for the system they run too.
