Lotto StudParticipantI know a lot of us follow basketball on the HS level & have seen some players that were really good who should have made it further then they did after HS. I would like to know who was the best HS basketball prospects you have seen play in your area to not made it or been as successful on the next.
I’m from the 757 VA area & the best 2 ballers I have seen on the HS level are
Branden Smith- Indian River HS – Chesapeake, VA
rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Branden-Smith-19929
B.Smith was the best SG I have ever seen down here, for him to be 6’2” he was BLESSED with bounce. Dude had a 40+ in. vert which he would be put on display every chance he got, whether it was fast breaks or lobs. Aside from his bunnies standing out, he had a J that was on NEMO when he was on. One game I seen him play he put up 38pts & everything that night was just dropping. I’m not sure what kind of problems he was having, but he bounced around to a couple prep schools. When he transferred to Ryan Academy he put up a career high 47 pts in a game. Currently he is enrolled at Virginia Union & is on the basketball roster.
Marquie Cooke- Nansemond River HS – Suffolk, VA
rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Marquie-Cooke-12299
If there were no John Gilchrist, Marquie would have been the best PG in VA, since Iverson on the HS level. Marquie was a 6’3” Tidewater player of the year PG, who averaged 22 ppg I believe his Sr. year. He was a very strong player for his size who had excellent ball control & was not turnover prone. The biggest knock on Marquie was that he was a headcase once he got on the collegiate level. When he enrolled to Virginia Tech he had got dismissed from the team, shortly after that stint Colorado State took him on & he was dismissed there also. I haven’t heard anything on him since his short stint with Colorado State, but apparently another school gave him a "3rd chance" which was Louisana at Lafayette, & you should know what happend there too. hamptonroads.com/node/139231

kid at my school, going to be stupid good if he hits the weights and just gets more experience creating plays rather than just spotting up all the time.

Lotto StudParticipantWhat do you like about his game & what do you think is his biggest strength when you watch him play.

M-DYMESParticipantAndrew Nicholson- St. Bonaventure
I just was looking up my boys stats who plays for Bonnies and then I saw how Nicholson is doing this season. Pretty damn impressive. Dudes averaging 20.8 ppg, 7.4 rpb, 1.5 bpg, and an assist. As a 6-9 225 F with length, I think he could end up becoming a sleeper in next year’s draft. Each year thus far he has improved his avg. by 4 ppg.
Check out this game he put up v. Ohio…
44pts/12rebs/5asts/1blk off of 14/19 shooting. He got to the line 25x too. He avg. getting to the line 7.6x per game. Pretty solid. He even hits the 3 on occassion.
I’ll be interested to follow him throughout his senior season, but if he continues to improve he should start climbing up draft boards next season. Just a guy to keep an eye on.

Lotto StudParticipantWhat did he do on the HS level, which made him the BEST unknown player you have seen.

M-DYMESParticipantHe’s not man, I just was putting him out there to look at since no one else really has commented on the topic. Just throwin him out there…he aint the best but he is worth looking at.
The BEST unknown player never exists. If he has any talent at all, nowadays someone has seen him play to some extent, therefore he can’t be unknown.
And he’s no longer in HS either. But this was about relatively unknown prospects and rather than starting another thread, I thought I could put it in here. Sorry if I polluted your thread with my nonsense, but since this never really took off I thought we could expand it a bit to get more insight from posters.

Lotto StudParticipantYou good wit me I just would have liked to know what he did on the HS level that made him one of the best known unknowns. I just wish my 2 would have went further then they did because they had all the talent in the world, especially if you seen them play in person.

M-DYMESParticipantYea I didn’t know about him until he got to Bonnies. He’s from ON so I really didnt get a good following on him. But based on what I’ve seen of footage from Bonnies and his statistical performances, I think his ability cannot be denied. He has the size to translate his game to the next level, and I think with a good showing next year he should start to enter serious draft conversation.

the I in winParticipantWhat makes him is his jumper combined with his height. He has a decent handle but he chooses not to use it since he has good guards to give it to. He’s only a sophmore so he probably isn’t done growing, also he hasn’t hit the weights yet so that won’t hinder his growth. Coach West has had a lot of experience developing guards and has put out some recognizable names.

M-DYMESParticipantI could swear he was a Junior this year. He has to come out next year.
