valentineWho is the best college player of the past 5 years? I would like to hear some opinions.

MachettiParticipantCarmello is probably last 6 years, but had the numbers and won a title. Durant, Beasley had better numbers, but Anthony led his team to a Championship. I take championship over stats

don042488ParticipantI know Michael Beasley had slightly better stats, but I have to go with Kevin Durant because he’s just so special. He’s a 6’9 forward/guard, who’s wingspan makes him more 6’10, got great handle, is a decent athlete, got range from anywhere on the floor, could post you up, gets to the free throw line at will, rebounds like a mad man, displays a killer instinct that most great players have ala Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, he has a willingness to win, and hits clutch shot after clutch shot. What’s not to like about this kid? U see what he’s doing in the NBA this season? Regardless if he’s on a sucky team or not, he scores at will and still shoots high percentages, something that more high profiled players like Allen Iverson, Tracy Mcgrady, Gilbert Arenas, and etc never did. He’s hands down the third best small forward in the league, behind LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. Everyone is worried about the 2010 free agency with LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Amare, and etc, but if I was GMs I would worry about the 2011 free agency when Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony becomes a free agent. Durant plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, a small market, if I was the Knicks, I’ll try to pry him away from the small city of Oklahoma, to the glamorous lights of New York City. As for Melo, he stated on the Stephen A. Smith show a few years back, he would love for the opportunity to play for his hometown Knicks. Imagine Melo and Durant on the Knicks in 2011.

shipargosParticipantDurant for sure, he is 6’10.25 in shoes and 7´5 wingspan as shown in some other draft site database, he is not super athletic but above average for sure. The scary thing about the kid is that his potential hasnt been fullfiled yet. His skills as a wing and a post player are far greater than most, he is a nice ballhandler and is a matchup nightmare for any wing. ( his jumpshot is just deadly as any pure shooter)
If he bulks a bit more could play the 4, ( like 230 pounds), im am sure he will become a post player down the road, with supreme guard skills, thats the scary thing, there are no players with these characteristics in the league.

jorrye24As a HUGE kstate fan (ever since i was about 7, im not a bandwagon guy), seeing what michael beasley did for the program and for all of the one and done players during his season in college, he is the best college player in the last 5 years, better than Durant, better than Carmelo (even though carmelo won a ring), better than hansbrough. I think he was better than Carmelo was because, honestly, look at what syracuse has for talent compared to kstate. Yea kstate had walker, a current nba/nbdl player, but syracuse had mcnamara (a lights out shooter), and hakim warrick (a good all around athlete and current nba player) so if beasley wouldve had a few more pieces like melo did he wouldve likely had a national title. Beasley is the “savior” of the kansas state wildcats, but melo, hansbrough, durant, they are guys with legacies that are what their programs have become used to. Frank Martin is likely going to be able to recruit any post player in the nation with the big boys because he can honestly say he helped develop michael beasley. Look for ksu to get to the ncaa tournament ALOT for the next 10 years, and we can thank beasley for the momentum he provided

auberParticipant1/16/07 Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State was enough for me. Quite possibly the greatest single game performance from any player I’ve seen on the college level. I had Already owned Durant in a Keeper League at this point, but with a 37 point, 12 rebound 4 block performance sold it for me. Not to mention 4 games later he put up a 35,23,3 night vs Texas Tech. I’ll take Durant over Beasley and Anthony any day, HS,College or Pro Kevin Durant was and is the best of the bunch.

gberg23I am favoring Durant right now, great responses backing him up.

king_ffranParticipantI am a duke fan, so my favorite college player is and was JJ Redick.
Flame all you want, but he was lights out during his time, and was so pure as a shooter. Too bad he isnt as effective in the NBA.

shipargosParticipantMaybe JJ can be more effective in a run and gun team like the knicks

PennycentsParticipantThis is a tough question and im not sure i can even narrow it down to one guy but its also hard to swallow some things like a player that never won a title or even a game in the tourney get mentioned as greatest over last five years also players that were one and done well then theres players that produced for mulitiple years durring that time so i dont thing that anyone on this post should get a nood except maybe jj who did it for all four years and was a great College player sucks in the nba but thats not a part of this so thats what i got

kpi03ParticipantHands down Carmelo Anthony. You come in as a freshman and take a unranked Syracuse team all the way to the national championship and win it. He has been the only player to make that kind of an impact as far as winning goes. He, imo, has a very slight edge over Kevin Durant. Mike Beasley was good but his team didn’t get past the second round.

LvilleHoops09ParticipantIn terms of talent: Durant…In terms of numbers Hansboro

joecheck88Participantcarmelo was the man in 03, okafor was beast in 04, sean may & raymond felton were good in 05, noah and horford carried florida the next 2 years, kansas had 6 good players. but in terms of best years for one player regardless how the season ended up, it has to be durant. he was sick.
