MopgrassParticipantIt shouldn’t be news when the 1st pick plays his 2nd good game, but tonight Anthony Bennett…
14 PTS, 8 RBD, 2 STL in 22 minutes.
Most importantly, him coming into the game coinciding with a big run for the Cavs. They were down by 22, they came back, took Bennett out, and the Lakers started scoring. So Mike Brown put him in for the rest of the game.
He hit about 6 would-be important free throws in a row and brought the Cavs within 6 with 2 minutes to go. If you can forget the airball, he not only helped himself, but he made the team better tonight. Maybe he’ll get some run out there next game.

Critically ThinkingParticipantHe better get some run out there next game. Sacre fouled out but stayed in the game tonight because the lakers didnt have anyone to replace him with. Ive never seen that happen.
The Cavs have got to give this guy consistent minutes, they are a mess right now. It would really help with his development if he could get some playing time. I remember watching the game six days ago against the knicks, and at one point during the first quarter they had a lineup of irving, deng, bennett, thompson, and zeller. While that lineup was out there I asked myself, "how are these guys going to guard anybody on the perimeter?" The next play J.R. Smith makes Bennett look silly and gets an easy bucket. Why Mike Brown would ever put that lineup out there is beyond me, he’s got to go IMO.
Bennett should get some more minutes and they should stop trying to play him at the 3 and play him more at the 4. He can’t keep up with small forwards on the defensive end and really can’t stretch the floor consistently on the offensive end. I didn’t watch tonight, did he play more as a 3 or a 4?

draftmangtParticipantThe bigger deal is how the Cavs are an absolute mess right now, and i blame Dan Gilbert. Its his job to find hire the right people to lead this franchise to success and he has failed miserably.
EVERYONE (with the excection of Gilbert and Grant) knew rehiring Mike Brown was a terrible decision. Brown has a known track record of being a horrible coach on offense and this team hasn’t improved defensively at all. He also soft, he refused to hold Irving accountable for his lackadaisical defense and it has become painfully obvious that these players don’t respect him.
Chris Grant has been great in terms of making trades but has been horrible when it comes to drafting players. He uses analytics as him primary draft tool ignoring roster construction, needs, and how a team fuctions on the court. I could understand ingnoring need and going BPA but Thompson, Waiters, nor Bennett were considered BPA when drafted.
Both Brown and Grant should be gone ASAP.

Kyrie gave up 20 1st half points to Farmar and got benched because of it. He looke PO’d but the rest of the team looked to have really responded to Kyrie finally being punished.
Also in relation to Bennett this is actually his 3rd good game all in the last 5, in the last 5 he is averaging 23min 9.2pts a game and 4.6rebounds.
He is not looking over his shoulder to be pulled like earlier Verajao injury gave him confidence he will get minutes no matter what. Verajao is supposedly on a 25-30minute limit till the trade deadline, he went 35 tonight because he was part of the unit that got a big run.

draftmangtParticipantThat was more so Brown riding the hot hand than him punishing Irving. Irving was set tob check back in back delly got a steal and hit a 3 so he sat Irving back down.

r377ParticipantThe Cavs look to be in all sorts of trouble. Will Deng resign or go elsewhere to a contender ?

Ghost01ParticipantThere is probably a better chance the LeBron signs with Charlotte than there is that Deng resigns with the Cavs…
It’s not happening.

King CaluchaParticipantBasketball reference estimates he’s been playing 70% of the time as a PF for the season. Interesting…

llperezfist I’ve really seen of bennet, and while he has skills, his athleticism is really bad. Needs to lose weight or something. Waiters threw an alley oop to him that Bennett wasn’t able to go up and get and waiters was shaking his head in disgust. It wasn’t a real easy lob, but nba athletes should be able to have got that one. Then the cavs denied the lakers pg’s the ball on an inbound so ryan Kelly got it and had to bring it up. Then bennet comes up to press him 70 feet, and Kelly just crossed him over and blew by him and Bennett was trying to chase him down and couldn’t and Kelly went length the court getting into the paint to dump it off for a lay up to a teammate with Bennett railing the whole time. Bennet getting crossed over and smoked in a 3/4 court sprint by ryan Kelly while Kelly is dribbling is not good.

Memphisboy14ParticipantI think that he isn’t nearly as bad as his stats suggest. Obviously the stats are bad so I can’t argue against that but, I do think that the fact that he only plays about 10mpg could suggest that maybe he tries to do too much sometimes because he know he won’t get many minutes. I understand that young players need to play better to get more minutes but on the other hand young players need minutes to gain experience and confidence that in turn will make them better players. That’s why I was dumbfounded when the Cavs absolutely refused to send him to the D-League. I understand that the D-League’s talent isn’t very good and there is no guarantee that he will turn out better by playing there for awhile. But, let the guy get his conditioning back. After his shoulder surgery in the offseason he wasn’t able to do much physical activity during the majority of the offseason. Let the guy find his jumpshot again. Let him dominate those guys there to help him regain some confidence. It’ll give him some minutes and at least a bit of development that he never gets in the by riding the bench in the NBA.
Also the Cavs are a joke of an organization right now. Sometimes I feel as if the organization and locker room have stability then that in turn could do wonders for a players development. One player that definitely comes to mind in this situation is Lance Stephenson. I always thought he had the talent of a guy who could one day be a top 5 pick in a NBA Draft but he didn’t have the maturity to take his game to another level while he was at Cincinnati. He fell to a good organization in Indiana that would hold him accountable for his actions and be firm with him yet still taught and helped guide him to being the player he is today.

Land of GrantParticipantIf I were a team like Boston I would love to trade for a guy like Bennett… Talented dude in the wrong situation, playing for a desperate team that really wants immediate help. I still believe he can be a 16 and 8 guy, if he loses weight.
