I don’t know how closely you guys have been watching him, but I’ve watched & been really impressed lately. Against Bama, he hit a jumper & against Auburn, he took & made several jump shots. His mechanics looked solid & he looked comfortable taking them…I guess he heard about all tha talk about how his shot was broken & decided to silence some people. With his improved jumpshot, I don’t have any concerns about his game anymore. Tha one weakness that everyone kept pointing out is no longer valid (or as much a concern as once thought).

I’ve seen multiple people on here question his assertiveness & attitude & try to tear his game down when he doesn’t have tha all-world performance we were looking for, but when he answers tha questions, I never see any posts about that. I’ve seen people really try to sell Ingram or Bender as tha #1 pick ahead of him & it doesn’t make sense to me. I don’t see how he isn’t viewed as tha lock to go #1 no matter what. Even with no jumper, he’s far & away tha best prospect of this draft. He’s arguably tha best athlete in this class, he’s tha best rebounder, & tha best passer. People say he’s not aggresive & not a scorer, yet he averages 20. And now he’s making his jump shots. I’m saying all of that to say that we always (myself included) talk about who’s a bust & we point out flaws in a prospect, but we rarely acknowledge when a guy is tha real deal….

    What do you guys think??

Encouraging signs but he needs to  be confident and consistent in both his willingness to shoot and mechanics before I’d say his shot is fixed or it is no longer a concern. He is still extremely hesitant to shoot and will only do so as an absolute last resort. You can tell he is thinking about it and it doesn’t come naturally to him. His mechanics on his foul shots look decent but he gets sped up in actual game situations. I think he’ll get to the point where he can make jumpers consistently eventually, but it may take some time.

The fact that you mentioned that he took and made ONE jump shot, and then only could make reference to two of his game where he shoots is indicative of the true concerns that us as fans have. Believe me I’m the biggest Ben Simmons fan but the reality is he has flaws in his game and as poster on a draft forum we have to be mindful about them and speak on them.

oh look another Greekballin post complaining about someone posting about a basketball/prospect.

I propose we all send our posts to a pre screening process approved only by Greekballin so he doesn’t have to read similar posts anymore.  Since him not clicking one that clearly says BEN SIMMONS is out of the question…

He’s the best player…not the best prospect.

I really like his defense, hands down, it’s an art to be a perimeter player on offense and the last one on transition D, it’s not a clue…

I will like him as a 3.  Above average height and rebounding ability for that position.  It would also put him on the wing where he can create, drive, and slash.

As a 4, he would only have average height and length with below average strength.  Good rebounder for a 4, but maybe not ELITE.

I like him as a 3.  Maybe like Scottie Pippen who could really score and rebound and defend from there, but also having the ability to run the offense, handle the ball, pass, and create.  Lamar Odom and Toni Kukoc were best at the 3 even though they could also play the 4.

Ben Simmons strikes me as a perimeter guy.  I like him in the high post or on the low blocks, playing some point 4 and battling some bigs on defense, but I don’t want him there ALL THE TIME.

He needs to work on his jumper.  At least 15 to 18 footers.  His mid-range game combined with his other skills could get him to 20 points a night in the league, even WITHOUT a reliable 3 point shot.

Some NBA 3 point snipers have inflated percentages because they don’t take many a game, OR they take those corner 3’s which are shorter.

I wouldn’t compare Simmons’ 3 point shooting percentages to those guys.  I don’t see him as a stretch four that you just stick in the corners.  I see him taking more straightaway 3’s or 3’s from the elbow.  So, I think if he hits even 20% to 25% from there that could be closer to the NBA average.

I would rather have Simmons guarding Kevin Durant at the 3 than somebody like Zach Randolph down on the blocks.  A guy like Blake Griffin with a strength, AND athleticism advantage could hurt him at the 4.

Ben Simmons has the highest basketball IQ among all the prospects. At a young age he understands all the basics of the game and he always finds the open guys. His court vision is at the highest level and that’s not something you can teach. Even with a jump shot being his flaw at this level he dominates the college game. A lot of times it seems as he doesn’t try to take over or plays aggressive enough but I think this could be because he hasn’t been challenged enough to unleash that competitive monster side. With the small ball game emerging in NBA, he has the potential to me an amazing playmaker. There is not many people that can guard him one on one and when other players step up to help he will make the best pass available. It doesn’t help that the players on his team can’t make wide open shots. Also he is 19 years old and I’m sure he will work on his jump shot and get better every year. If you don’t take him as the number one pick, you are making a big mistake.

    No.

    A mistake maybe.

    A big mistake, no way.

Or he’ll have to learn a lot of things in the next 5 years, from an nba position, to playing at both ends(team D, help D, transition D, sure the rebounding number would take a hit), playing with or without the ball,, helping his team in both cases, playing all 48 minutes, range, leadership.

If you’re 100% sure he’ll fix everything entering the league at 20 hyped for 5 years now, OK, i’m not.

Then tell me the 2 weaknesses of an 18YO ingram, please be my guest….

I like the mismatches Simmons will create all over the floor though, even if he’s not the answer for the lakers or sixers.
