i’m jus so offendedParticipantDon’t let princejames get up in here. But seriously, where in this highlight/game/all year has this kid looked anything but spectacular? The only knocks I’ve heard that may have any validity are his handles and defense but both those arguments are complete nitpicking and somewhat absurd. You saw him crossover the one kid in this game. His movement off ball is outstanding. Now his rebounding isn’t great according to the numbers but when you have Withey, Young, Ellis, Traylor and Releford crashing the boards, he should be leaking out more for transition points. I’ve heard the Brad Beal stuff (which is dumb to me, just b/c they’re both from St Louis and it’s an easy comparison) but I would go more in the Paul George realm in terms of potential and athleticism. Ben is a stud plain and simple and absolutely willed KU to a win last night, which few freshman are capable of period. Unless they’re special and this kid is

A Shitty bigboardHe’s getting so much love that im starting to hate it.
He got hot from 3 in this game. Easiest way to rack up points.
If he was doing it as a freshman he would be hands down #1 pick imo, but he’s not. He’s gonna be 21 soon. Archie is a true freshman. Mr19344 spit it Right on point so im just gonna quote him….
.
“Archie Goodwin is only 18 years old and won’t turn 19 until August, meaning he will still be 18 come draft time. He shares a similar build to B Mac both being a shade over 6’4″ in shoes, except that Goodwin sports a massive 6’11” wingspan which he combines with tight handles to become nearly unguardable one on one with the ball in his hands at the college level. Goodwin has a better all around game then B Mac being able to effectively play both guards spots although he’s best when used as a scorer, it can’t be ignored that he averages 4 apg and averaged over 5 apg when he was playing PG with Harrow out. Yes Goodwin does make some bad descicions with the ball, but he still is a good passer and ball handler, and has a very nice looking shot. He’s shooting 40% from 3 and 47% overall because he’s good at picking his spots, has a nice high release point, and nearly impossible to stop from getting to the rim. Goodwin is putting up similar numbers to B Mac but it’s his youth and potential that make me say he is a better prospect then B Mac. Dude will still be 18 come draft time, and got a sick handle, nice looking stroke, and a 6’11’ wingspan, which all adds up to a dynamic SG prospect.”
.
Give a prospect like Porter (averaging 13p 7r 3a 1.5blks 2stls) one more year to grow (as old as B-Mc) see how much he develops and the stats he would put up.0- Posted on: Thu, 01/10/2013 - 12:31pm #738203
HotSnotParticipantUsing Bmac’s age as a knock against his ability to continue to develop is growing tiresome.
The NBA is stacked full of players and even some current “stars” who were not that great their first few years in the league. You can grow/expand/develop your game at any age. Some years the progress is slow, in others gigantic leaps in ability are made.
Where is it written that a players development must be linear? Late bloomers are bad?
The NBA will ALWAYS have a spot for guys who can shoot. Too often we see a player who seemingly has every tool you’d want, but he shoots 40% from the field… and on volume no less.
Lastly, the sheer number of busts in the NBA as a result of GM’s falling in love with an 18 year olds “potential” is staggering. I’ll stick with the 20 year old who’s on a mission.

A Shitty bigboardIts no knock on his ability to keep growing, but a reality on check on how much time he’s had to develop.
.
development is for the most part linear, the more you stay in school the more you develop.
.
No1 is falling in love with an 18 year old’s “potential”…. Archie and Porter are both “PRODUCING”
Archie 16p 5r 4a
Porter 13p 7r 3a
B-Mc … 17p 5r 2a0- Posted on: Thu, 01/10/2013 - 4:01pm #738250
HotSnotParticipantThere are an overwhelming amount of variables that lead to the numbers you posted.

princejamesParticipantThis boy used to be a beast in highschool. A great isolation scorer before he fell in love with shooting the three pointer

M.GarveyParticipantImpressed by the one dribble pull up 3pter
I don’t know about 1st overall though, I think it’s going to be between Shabazz,Noel, and Cody0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/10/2013 - 1:04pm #738212
KingoftheOceanCourtParticipantAs an aside, I like the way the announcer says Releford (~ 0:57)

Mr. 19134ParticipantCan I bring some common sense back into the fold please?
Can I just point out that B Mac basically took advantage of open 3 pointers and transition buckets like he’s been doing all year. There wasn’t a man even in the picture on most of them 3’s he took, Iowa St’s defense was absolutely terrible.
I think B Mac is a top 5 lock and a really good player but he is getting way to overrated on this site. Why is this the only site that even has him in the top 5 let alone the number one pick? If Aran ahead of the curve or has the bandwagon just picked everybody up?
He still has to do it consistently and proove he can create his own offense. Right now he is playing just like Rodney Carney another super fast freak athletic dunker with a sick outside shot but couldn’t dribble and isn’t in the league anymore.

Mr. 19134ParticipantRodney Carney highlights for those who don’t remenber and is in all honesty B Mac’s best comparison right now. Like B Mac, Carney was a blur in the open court and had the quickest first step in college basketball. Like B Mac, Carney was a great outside shooter and a very good defender due to his athleticism and length. Like B Mac, Carney scored all his baskets on 3’s and transition points.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantRodney Carney???? haha wow
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/10/2013 - 3:56pm #738248
TYOParticipantHe’s more like Jason Richardson at this stage than Carney. We get it you like Shabazz more..You don’t have to try to discredit one great prospect to big up another one.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/10/2013 - 5:08pm #738268
Mr. 19134ParticipantI’m not trying to discredit anybody, I’m just pointing out what other people aren’t. Now if people were on here calling B Mac a non lottery talent i would be defending him point out his positives. I’m just trying to put prospects in there proper place as of right now, now more or less.
And no he’s not like Jason Richardson who was much much stronger in college and had the ability to finish at the rim at a much higher rate due to being stronger and longer.
He’s exactly like Rodney Carney at this point, and is probably the fastest wing player I have saw since Carney who was blistering fast, which is my favorite part about B Mac’s game is how fast he is. He also floats off one foot just like Carney.
Comparing him to Carney isn’t discrediting him, I do think he can and will be better then Carney, but they’re games are closer to each others then anybody elses because of their rare combination of pure speed, leaping ability, and outside shooting.

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantYo bro stop with the Rodney Carney ish bul. Chill out, hes not him
0 - Posted on: Sat, 01/12/2013 - 6:37pm #738737
theballerwayParticipanthave made such a big difference. I think if you compare him to last years crop of shooting guards theres no reaseon not too have him at the top. Hes more 3-8 pick material in my opinion but his talent is undeniable. As long as he doesnt get burdened with the number 1 pick pressure he will be fine. On draft night its gonna come down to need. If your teams got a top pick and you front court is set hes your guy. He probably seems overated because he was such an unknown commodity coming in. Self was praising him nobody else knew what to expect
Guys used to stay 3/4 years and still develop vastly
