BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Official Game Thread
Welcome to the slaughterhouse.
guys are getting away with some walks in here like cray. but anyway...these are some of the most intruiging bunch of rising stars....any of them can turn out to be superstars in a few years.
where is wall?.... is there anything irving cant do?... norris cole off the dribble mid range is nasty...
paul george had a chance to dunk it twice and layed it up =(
yes sir ^
Or is Kenny Smith brutally annoying? He is much worse as an announcer than even as a studio commentator. Seriously, he was terrible during the NCAA tournament last year and he is just nails on a chalk board. Even when he was announcing during the H-O-R-S-E those times, just, ugh. "The Jet" could ball and I will not take that away from him, but he needs to take his horse teeth to the green pastures.
ik. but irving stepped up with those back2back threes when they were making a comeback.
you can make a case for both of them
paul george missed another dunk opportunity smh
If Doug Collins wants to take the Sixers to that next level, he needs to go ahead and start Turner and give him 38MPG. This guy is an All-Star SG waiting to happen.
Well, seeing that tuck is a person that most people find annoying, I should not be surprised :) (As in I am semi-kidding, lol)
I am not saying Kenny does not know his stuff. Just the way he presents it is incredibly loud and obnoxious. I hear he throws some crazy parties, though.
Evan Turner was doing really well, but Kyrie has impressed big time. Evan is playing really smart and penetrating, not taking the long range shots most other guards have tried in this game. Also, DeMarcus Cousins is massive. No one can keep that dude off the glass. If he ever gets his act together, he is dangerous. Finally, Greg Monroe. Great player, boring All-Star. Tim Duncan brings more flash to an All-Star game, lol.
I always like Kenny, with exception to his annoucing/voice overs during the dunk contest. STFU while the dunks are going on. I want suspense in the moment. No one talked while Vince, MJ, or Dominique dunked. If u don't need to talk, shut ur trap.
Damn Kyrie 7/7 from deep...what's the record for most 3 pointers in this game?
I know the rookie points record for this game is 33 points...by Lebron.
Let's see if Kyrie can beat that.
He threw down some rediculous dunks.
^It's a banking company.
And I was able to catch the last 3 minutes, and my dad walked into the room, saw about 45 seconds, and said"I though the dunk contest was tommorow?"
These games are just for entertainment. I don't mind it as long as you don't treat it like an actual game.
To be honest, I think Kyrie looked like the best BASKETBALL PLAYER on the court. He honestly looked like he had another gear and more control as a basketball player than anyone else on the court. ANYONE else.
Griffin and Wall are sensational athletes. Rubio is a sensational showman. But I think of everyone Kyrie will be the best basketball player.
IQ, shooting, and finishing this guy really has no hole in his offensive game and he does it with Steve Nash-like efficiency.
Really love the young talent in this league right now. So many great point guards.
I'm a big Kid Kyrie fan but if he didn't catch fire from 3, like that was ridiculous, Turner wins MVP. Also I dunno why Turner didn't start the 2nd half cuz if he was out there while Kyrie was nailing 3's he would of had a triple double. Turner still should had a had a triple double, he thru one bad oops, but he 3 easy ones to Hayward, Brooks, and George. Plus both times Cousins went to the foul line were from Turner passes which were so close to being and ones. He finished 8-9 for 16 points, lead the game in rebounds with 11, and still finished with 7 assists. But man I just wanted to see him get a triple double and he was so close like I said he through like 8 passes that were easy setups but just weren't converted.
I'm just happy for him because last year when he was snubbed people said that's becaue nobody wants to see him play in that type of setting. But Turner is flashier then people think, he's a deceptive flashy ball handler, and you got to see in this setting his passing skills. Before he came out in the 1st half Turner was leading the game in Points, rebounds and assists. But Turner tried to hard to make his teammates look better to win MVP. But atleast the hater finally got to see his total skill package even in an all star game.
And Wall's behind the back dunk was amazing. He played great.
Anybody notice Tristan Thompson finished with 20 points? Meaning Cleveland's rookie duo finished with 53. That's great for their future.
I loved Greg Monroes steal off Wall to get his teammate an easy look that was great.
I'm a big Marshon Brooks fan but he played like a knucklehead tonight.
I know Paul George finished with 23 but he really was not impressive, he was dribbling the ball off his foot and missing dunks and layups.
And finally what happen to the Derrick Favors we all remenber who would throw down monster dunks. He's seems so soft and don't play with any intensity. If he attacked the rim like Kenyon Martin he could be a star, but he don't and never will be if he don't change that.
Yeah I do agree Kyrie is an amazing player. He was probably the best basketball player on the court tonight with his combination of dead eye 3 point shots and his ability to penetrate. But he still needs to work on his defense so the Nash comparison is perfect lol...except i highly doubt he will ever be the passer Nash is but then again who can? But Irvings skill level and basketball IQ are off the charts.
And Wall would win the dunk contest if he were in it tomorrow. George has an opp to throw down some nasty dunks but they were all pretty basic, I'm not longer impressed by the arm in the rim dunk which anybody can do who has a 38inch vert and a near 7 foot wingspan. But it was cool to see in a game.
But, the way you do it man. I personally believe in education rather than just "calling people out on there BS". I think most people speak their mind, just not everyone has as high of an opinion about their point as you seem to. Not trying to say I am any better, probably show a lot of parallels, but just speaking my mind as to why people may not always love your laying down of tuck's law.
The record isn't set by LeBron with 33 points it was Durant with 46 points and westbrook scored 40 the year after that. Nvm you're talking about rookies my bad lol.
How did everybody ignore Paul George's elbow dunk? That was maybe the sickest in game dunk of the game and it didn't even make the top5!
It was an elbow dunk! Vince Carter did that in the SDC!
Blake Griffin did it too, I said this on the other thread but I'll say it again, just regular neighborhood dudes in Philly Summer Leagues do it all the time.
When Vince Carter did it, it was so crazy because nobody ever saw it before. But it's really not that hard of a dunk it was just super creative at the time. If somebody puts it between the legs, or does a 360 then does, well that would be special. But let's be honest, any athletic wingman in the league can probably do that dunk especially when you have a near 7 foot wingspan and a high vert. Just notice how many players are the average get a whole elbow over the rim going for a block or rebound. Lebron James can probably put his whole arm in the dam rim.
George's best dunk was the his backwards double pump dunk cuz it was so tenacious.
John Wall had the best dunks. You can tell he was super mad for being snubbed in the draft. Gotta love that block on Cole.
And didn't Boobie Gibson hit 11 3's in the rookie/soph game?
Seriously tho has there ever been a triple double in any of these games i really don't remember one and I've watched them all. And to this day my favorite play is Boozer getting the ball bounced off his face then having a 3 swapped in his face. HA!

Should be a great game.
My predictions for MVP:
John Wall if Team Chuck wins
Blake Griffin if Team Shaq wins
